  1. It's hard to find good bagels in this city, especially everything bagels with lots of everything on both sides of the bagel. When they are adding cream cheese, they can over do it or underdo it and you will have absolutely no control over that. The place is quite dirty I guess no one cleans the dining room because the bench does not look like it gets any attention. Also watch out for being overcharged. This city is a rat race and even for as much as I can't say nice things about this place, I can say they have the everything bagels I'm looking for.

  2. Oh my god this place !!!!! So delicious I was so happy to have found it. Such an assortment of baked good and kosher goods as well the bagels were divine and the eclair and cannoli were heaven sent. Exactly what I was looking for and no line up !! What more can you ask for. They have great looking lunches including wraps salads and sandwiches. Soups and smoothies were also on the menu and i think they do deliveries and big orders as well as have a hot kitchen section. There are some seats but depending on the time of day you may or may not get one. Overall recommend. Great prices and they accept debit and credit as well as cash.

  3. A little too slow.. my break is only 30 minutes long so I was in a rush and they were really busy, but they were done with my entire meal- just missing the toast. It takes two seconds to take the toast out of the toaster, but my food was just hanging out on the counter, toast-less, for about 7 minutes! I had to semi-obnoxiously gaze over the counter for the kitchen dude to acknowledge me and finish my order.
The food was cool- it was just eggs, home fries and toast. Breakfast special. I was left hungry, but the home fries were terrific.

It doesn't look like the cleanest place, and places that sell gyros, veggie burgers, pizza, soup, breakfast, cannoli's, bread, cupcakes, etc. Just kind of worry me.. like.. why do you have everything? I assume it isn't of high quality when that happens. But! I could be wrong! And I was pretty satisfied with this place. I might go back one day if desperation hits, or I really want those awesome home fries.

  4. Staying at a hotel by Hot & Crusty. The bellman recommended the cheesecake here. So here we are visiting New York and trying a New York cheesecake.
The cheese cake was a little dry and we couldn't taste the rum in the tiramisu. Not impressed.

  5. If you like bread and baked goods, stop in here.  There's not much else to it.  I was headed out for a nice touristy afternoon with a friend from out of town at the Metropolitan and needed a quick snack.  She suggested stopping in a starbucks but I really wanted to give her something more NY and local so we luckily passed by this place.  The baked goods we fresh and delectable through the glass at least; instantaneous mouth-watering quickly ensued.  We settled on a large gooey chocolate chip cookie and croissants.  Simply put they were perfect.  And as we walked on to the museum munching on our baked goods, we couldn't help but think, maybe we should turn around and get one more thing to save for later.

The prices are pretty reasonable.  I plan to pop back in here before my next visit to the Met or if I find myself on the UES in the vicinity.

  6. I love that the delivery is super fast and that they have an extensive baked goods menu which can be delivered to my door blocks away.

Unfortunately the baked goods are too often stale. Within the last week I have ordered twice and the croissant, pound cake and muffins were not even remotely fresh.

I actually dropped the pound cake (which was wrapped in plastic) onto my kitchen counter and it shattered into pieces because it was brittle and old.

Convenient location though right by the 86th street subway, but not worth it for the baked goods.

  7. I'm not usually a fan of chain establishments for baked goods and sandwiches, but hot & crusty has now become one of my favorites. After going with my boyfriend numerous times as he bought bagels, I finally ordered my own food as we were desperate for easy sandwiches. I LOVED my deluxe lox bagel, which didn't have an overwhelming amount of cream cheese and with ample salmon. The only little detail was that the bagel was toasted a bit too much, to the point of being too hard for me to bite. The sandwich was so filling though, and my boyfriend and his family who each got different sandwiches (reuben, turkey brie, chicken parma) all agreed. My bf even said that the chicken parm sandwich was the best sandwich he's ever had (and he eats a lot of sandwiches). Not too pricey, quick service, endless options of baked goods and sandwiches…will come back again and again as a guilty pleasure or when I'm in no mood to venture somewhere new.

  8. Hot and Crusty Bakery Cafe was my go to place for a muffin every day when I worked. I stopped for the muffin to take with me. It was convenient when I lived in the neighborhood. At first the bran muffin had dates and nuts. It was huge. Then they stopped adding the dates. Then after a few years the nuts were very few. The prices kept going up, The coffee was already more expensive than other locations. The bagels are great. They are worth the price. I've tried the cookies and they are very good too. The pastries all look delicious. They offer seasonal pies, bread, and cookies. It fun to watch the selections change. I loved the holiday decorations they put up too.

Positive things about this location are as follows; they make everything fresh daily, they are open twenty four-seven, they have a clean bathroom. There is seating if you can get it. For the most part the tables and chairs are kept clean. I liked the employees that worked the night shift. It takes a special character to handle the overnight customers and homeless!

Negative things include; rising prices, questionable patrons and persons lingering on the sidewalk, and trouble finding a seat during busy times. I was there at 5 AM so I didn't have a problem. If you're not early you'll wait in a long line to order and pay also.

i made friends with other customers. We were all working and on the same time schedule. We met every morning. It really was nice while it lasted. After we all went our separate ways I started going uptown to 97th Street where prices are much less!
