Hot Kitchen
“Their Dan Dan noodles and Sichuan dumplings in chili oil are just the right amount of spicy.”
“I ordered the dan dan noodles, the Kun bao chicken, and the mapo tofu.”
“The lamb in cumin however did remind me of lamb I had when I was little in Shanxi province in China.”

Super solid 4. I ordered delivery and was very impressed: First, Caviar said it would take 40-60 minutes (which usually means at least an hour if not over), but this time I received my food in 30-40 minutes. I got the braised chili sauce fish and it was DELICIOUS. It came in a deep bowl of hot sauce with lots of garlic. The fish was tender and intensely flavorful. It was actually noticeably spicy, which was a plus for me. Despite the base being a giant bowl of chilli soup essentially, somehow the dish wasn't too greasy overall.
I definitely want to try other things on the menu. Note: If you have a lighter palate, you may not like this place as much, but I am all about the spices and salt so I really liked the food.
I love the soup dumplings here. Fantastic. Also, it might not be the most ordered item but the bok choy is really good. Highly recommend the spivey noodles as well. All in all a great place to order in from. They are faster than expected and the food always shows up piping hot and ready to enjoy. Top-tier food delivery from this place.
Highly recommend!!
Realized the only time this place is worth for me it is when you get take out or delivery for their lunch specials. Would not recommend having dinner here if you're conscious about price and think you're overpaying if it's avg. $20~$30 per dish. As for the food – the dan dan noodles were a tad overcooked, but seasoning was good. We had the spicy minced beef which was deep fried and crunchy to the core – no soft/chewy part at all? We were a bit confused, but it was what it was. Probably wouldn't return to dine in, but will order for lunch again.
Hot Kitchen offers some of the most authentic Chinese cuisine I have ever had in this city.
Off the top, there will most likely be a wait on weekends, so come prepared to stand outside for a bit as the restaurant is small.
The interior is simple, narrow and bright with accented walls and attractive portraits covering the walls. You'll more than likely hear your neighbors' conversations, but you'll be so excited for your food that it won't matter (not unless you were next to a group who brought the entire waitstaff over for ten minutes to ask if they can sub chicken for veggies in a dish, like us.)
More importantly, let's talk about the food. I know other diners here rave about the food review after review on here, but I'll be honest, it just wasn't THAT incredible to me. Let me explain…
Were the flavors original and complex? Yes. Were the dishes authentic, and generously portioned? Yes. But I did not have a dish here that made me jump out of my seat like others have described. While the spring rolls served in the beginning were a little cold and lackluster, the shredded pork in garlic sauce was very good. Needed more rice on the side, though. Why is this always a problem for me with these type of dishes? Maybe I eat too much rice.
Overall, nothing bad about our experience here by any means, but I guess we expected more given all the hype. May be worth coming back to try different dishes?
3.5 stars
Not gonna lie…I was trying to find one thing wrong with this place and I couldn't. I came here for a quick dinner tonight and tried soup dumplings for the first time. INCREDIBLE. The food was fresh, authentic, and we couldn't stop ordering more off the menu.
This is a perfect spot if you're trying to grab a quick dinner, but the food is top notch. Prices are great, you get a lot for your buck here. Great place to come with friends. I highly recommend the scallion pancakes and soup dumplings. A+++
Great Sichuan food with reasonable price and great location in east village.
Well balanced between spiciness and aromaticness! A few really good classic Sichuan dishes here – ma la pots with seafood/ pig blood (more exotic for ppl never tried. But very good indeed)/ fish. Pig feet soup – really good with spiciness from black pepper that warms up my stomach in this cold weather! And must-try spicy tofu with minced beef. Soft tofu immersed in hot spicy meat chili – yum yum, very satisfactory and goes really well with rice.
They served dishes really fast as well.
I always get the "Ma La Xiang Guo" which is a sorted dish includes all kinds of meat (beef, chicken, shrimp) and vegetables (potato, lotus root, tofu) with my favorite ingredient ginger and cilantro.
I like it here a lot. Their dry hotpot, or their mixed dish with seafood beef and chicken is super good, there's not much for me to say other than it is really good here. There's not much you can go wrong with uere
