  1. The nicest thing about this place is that it's always pretty quick– I stop by here usually for breakfast since I don't have to wait and it's only a couple blocks from where I work, but I rarely come here for lunch (there is a plethora of lunch options in this area and this one has a hard time hitting the mark) but I can safely assure you that you won't be waiting long if you decide to hit this spot.

There is one guy at the counter in the back that has consistently messed up my order more than once (how do I end up with a bran muffin when I asked for a corn one? And in the same exact order, a western omelette instead of a triple meat omelette… I mean the pronunciation isn't even close…), but excluding him, the preparation of my usual breakfast options are spot on and haven't ran into any serious issues. I have received my order wrong more than once though.

There's an $8 minimum on any credit / debit card transactions. They do have an ATM in the back, with some disgusting $2 charge. Be prepared to bring cash if you decide to hit this spot!

No issues with anyone having a bad attitude or anything.

Their selection of breakfast food is pretty extensive and they have lots of other items sitting around too. Same deal for lunch– but the quality of food is not quite there.

  2. Also known to my office as "Blue Awning Deli", Hudson Food Court has always been a weird one for me. In the past couple years of working in the area, I probably stopped at least 10 times, but never actually ordered anything. I'd go in, take a look and then change my mind.

This finally changed just yesterday when an epic flood of rain altered my plans of running to Dunkin Donuts for some breakfast. I sloshed through sheets of water and into the deli. When I saw their breakfast sandwich prices, I knew I had to have been missing something. $2.25 for a sausage egg and cheese roll? Done. Sort of.

Ok. The sandwich sucked. The roll was definitely old and stale, and the sausage patty was laughably small (i put "patty" in there for a reason, you dirty minded folk…not that I was thinking it…OK FINE!) and lacked any sort of flavor. Lame.

Later that very same day, in an effort to combat my lunch indecisiveness, a co-worker recommended a grilled cheese sandwich with bacon and tomato from here. What the hell, I said. I returned, but didn't order aforementioned cheese sandwich. Instead I asked (since it wasn't on the menu) if they made chicken caesar wraps. The answer was yes.

HOLY CRAP!!! So delicious!! Plentiful lettuce and chicken and dressing and CROUTONS!!!! CROUTONS!! I've never had them in a wrap before! They added a nice unexpected crunch and burst of flavor to my lunch! The wrap itself wasn't stale, like it's bread-y breakfast counterpart!

Though I rave about how delicious the wrap was, I still can't go above a 3 star rating. Breakfast was way too disappointing, and the fact that it took 11 visits to finally order something, speaks to the appeal. I will be back though for that wrap!!

  3. This is about as average a food deli as you're going to get. There are certain things that its good for, and certain things that it isn't.

What is it good for? Grabbing quick items like water, breakfast bars, various soft drinks and potato chips. Things that come prepackaged are a safe bet here since its fast to go in and out.

What is it not good for? Everything else. The hot food buffet is the standard mix of deli food, most of which is fairly unhealthy and over-salted. I had a platter from here consisting of various dishes and it was flat out not good. The meat isnt if good quality, and frankly, nothing else seems to be either.

I would definitely put this place in the category of convenience store. Its great for grab and go's, but certainly not for food of any kind.

  4. Cheap eats in the West Village when you need to grab lunch. Huge variety of sandwiches and wraps (or you can create your own), make your own salads, really good soups and hot and cold food bars. I find them to be extremely cheap, especially for this area. I can get a large soup that tastes better than Hale & Hearty across the street for just $4 or a wrap/sandwich for less than $7. They also carry all the regular deli fare such as drinks, chips, etc.

  5. This place is the bastard stepchild of Jazzy's.  Owned by the same folks, they've recreated the model at Jazzy's, but with lower quality standards, a terrible layout, and ornery, Soup Nazi-esque counter help, all a mere avenue block away.  My, what a difference one block makes in this city.

In spite of all that, you can grab a quick sandwich here, something to drink, a slice, or if you're really feeling bold, give their hot buffet a try.  The latter has made me sick before, so I tend to avoid that.  Otherwise, this place is convenient for something small or if you're in a rush, but don't expect fireworks.
