Right off the bat, the best thing about this little tapas bar is the service – but a very, very close second is the value for money. If you go on a Sunday or Monday night, their "feed me" style menu is only $45. That in and of itself is fabulous value, given the quality and amount of food you are given. Add in the fact (and as an Australian, I LOVE this), that the tip is INCLUDED, I was blown away by the price. Even at it's normal price of $65, it's well worth considering this option to be walked through some lovely Spanish dishes.
But back to the service – my party of two was sat at the bar, and the service from when we walked in until when we left was sensational. They knew their drinks, they knew their food. You really couldn't ask for more.
Foodwise, the Feed Me menu walks you through a range of pinxchos and tapas dishes, from small bites to larger shared tapas dishes. Each was well balanced in terms of flavours and textures and thoughtfully described by the servers. We were given an option of sweet or cheese for dessert and having loved everything so far, we asked if we could do both. We could. And both options were definitely worth getting. And the sherry recommendations to pair with them were spot on.
Definitely worth checking out.
My friend and I discovered Huertas on our way home from happy hour with another friend, and decided to drop in for a quick dinner.
We ordered shares of the albondigas (meatballs), which were accompanied by rustic bread, patatas bravas, and shishito peppers. The albondigas, served in a tomato sauce, were tasty, and the patatas bravas and the shishito peppers were delicious!
Also, since the tip is included in the bill, it's already taken care of for you!
Wow! Unexpected … A great place for foodies who have a fear of missing out! With tasting menu options or 6 X bite menu I was in heaven.
We came for the hot dog which is off the menu! A delicious hot dog but it's still a hot dog. I'd recommend staying on the menu.
The Gilda – salty, sour and sweet, not my favorite but I don't love anchovies
Russian salad with tuna – delicious! Loved the Russian salad. So good!
Shrimp and egg MY FAVORITE! Ordered more! Mayonnaise mixed egg
Mushroom croquets – bursting with flavor. My fiancé loved this – he almost fought me for his.
Stuffed piquillo pepper – roast pepper was perfectly roasted with what tasted like the Russian salad stuffed inside. Either way delicious.
Foie gras and honey crisp – this was I not expecting. Wow! The foie gras was perfect and with the mix with sweet I loved it!
We also had the churros. Don't get them. A let down to an otherwise a perfect meal.
This is an extraordinary meal of bold and savory flavors. We had the chef's tasting menu and it is really well worth it. Every plate brought to us was magnificent. From the sardines, to the octopus to the cheese. They were so accommodating giving us a fabulous menu that didn't make us miss gluten one bit. And of course you should do it with the wine pairing. 🙂
I had wanted to try Huertas for awhile now, as I follow the restaurant on instagram and was always impressed with the look of the dishes. I was equally impressed when the owner moved away from tipping, started paying decent wages, and included gratuity – this is how all restaurants should operate! Class act. Anyway we only had enough time to stop in here for a quick bite but everything was incredible. The restaurant itself is beautiful, the waiter was attentive but not annoying, and the three small plates we had were excellent. The octopus was so perfectly cooked! We will definitely be back for dinner soon. Great job!
Delicious food and excellent service, but way too pricey for me to make me want to come back.
Relaxing and cozy ambiance, perfect for a small group of friends or date night.
My two friends and I ordered family style to share. One of us is vegetarian and we still had tons of options to choose from.
Mushroom croquetas – $2 each. Served right out of the deep fryer, super hot and crunchy outside with creamy and savory mushroom filing inside. It tasted like cream of mushroom with bits of mushroom inside.
Papas – Perfectly fried potatoes with bravas sauce and aioli. The best part is mixing the two sauces and smothering the potatoes in the concoction.
Pulpo – Grilled well, with just the right amount of char, and seasoned well too. Just a TAD bit too chewy, compared to other grilled octopus I've had, but overall very good.
Arroz con Setas – One of the best fried rice I've had. My favorite part of this dish is the various mushrooms in it and smoked garlic. Lots of flavor from the leek as well.
Vieira con Calabaza – Though I tend not to order scallop dishes at restaurants (because they're usually overpriced and aren't very filing), this ended up being a good risk to take. The scallops were seared and topped with some type of fried crumble. Maybe bits of ham? That really added to the dish. Brussel sprouts and sauce paired well and just wanted to dip the scallops in as much sauce as possible!
Churros with chocolate sauce – Churros were very thin. I wish there was more substance to it. The melted chocolate was very good. Kind of tasted like a mix between milk and dark.
Almond icecream – Delicious. Small pieces of almond cracker on top and bursting with almond flavor within. Great with the churros and melted chocolate!
came by for brunch at 1pm on a saturday, and this place was completely empty. and this place is pretty huge too, so right away i was little worried about the food since normally everything in this area is packed.
i shouldnt have worried though. while the menu is pretty limited, everything that our group of 5 had was amazing. I had the Migas which was fried eggs, sausage and chickpeas, and it totally blew me away. who knew chickpeas and sausage could go so well together? it is quite a bit of food, you could probably share all the dishes.
only thing i didnt like was their gin and tonic "on-tap". this is pretty much just a gimmick; the G&T was terribly watered down, hardly any gin and mostly soda water. the mimosas were equally bland and weak.
overall i liked the place alot, its a nice, quiet spot for brunch (no bottomless brunch) but i would stick to the food and just beer and wine for drinks since they dont make good mixed drinks.
We had a nice time at Huertas and I'm a fan of their new no-tipping policy and great service – plus the adorable hand-written menus served in envelopes thing they do. But the food was just too hit/miss for me, and for the prices they charge you want consistency. For two people, we ordered two pinxto (mushroom croquette ball), the rotas rojos (potato strands with chorizo and poached egg), pulpo and arroz, plus a plate of meat and cheese (jamon iberico, manchego and leonara). The space is lovely and our server was very helpful, though I do feel like she pushed us to order more food than we need. The stand-out was definitely the meat/cheese and we agreed that we'd absolutely come back for drinks and a cheese plate again. But the other stuff was pretty meh – the pinxto was fine but when is fried food not fine? The pulpo was pretty good but I guess my expectations were pretty high because I don't know that it deserved the hype. And the rotos was downright weird – like raw potatoes with raw egg. The arroz was decent but at this point I was too full so barely ate it. All in all, I'm glad I went but given the volume of great spots in the E.Village, I'm not sure I'll be back.
