Reliable delivery but overpriced/ nothing special. A mediocre entree will cost at least $15.
We need an authentic and reasonably priced Chinese restaurant in this neighborhood.
Not a NY native, but i've had my fair share of Chinese food from all over the country. I stumbled upon Hunan during some exploration after my vegan friends headed over to V-Note.
What the other reviewers have said are true. The customer service is excellent (my water was never empty), which is a rarity for Chinese restaurants. The menu had a smorgasbord of many Americanized and traditional Chinese dishes, along with some Japanese and Vietnamese dishes. I was impressed by what they had to offer.
The meal starts with a complementary bowl of fried wonton skins. It was a bit greasy, but they were definitely fresh, which is, ahem, "refreshing" to see as opposed to some of the stale fried noodles that other places give you.
I decided on the crispy shredded Szechuan beef and salt pork chops. Oh man, Oh man. The beef was flavorful and definitely spicy, as indicated. I can't tell you how many times i've ordered spicy dishes at Chinese restaurants, only to be disappointed by the lack of kick. Some of them think that adding red chilis on the entree plate makes it spicy. Hunan Delight gets it right! And the quality of the beef was satisfactory. Some Chinese restaurants use very low quality beef and you can instantly taste it. Hunan's did not disappoint.
I've also had salted pork chops at many different places, but Hunan Delight's was cooked perfectly and seasoned well. It wasn't too salty, nor did it have that blatantly obvious MSG taste. Cooked crispy outside, and not overdone inside. It was juicy and tasty!
Thanks for showing me a good time New York.
This was a huge disappointment. Ordered chicken & broccoli with chicken fried rice and wonton soup. The chicken with the broccoli tasted like rubber. Additionally, the sauce in that, as well as the fried rice lacked any flavor whatsoever. We ended up throwing the leftovers out because it was so bad.
Despite the fact that they messed up my order this is a very solid choice for American style chinese food. I came from the lower east side because I read that they had crispy shredded beef which has been a favorite of mine but surprisingly difficult to find in this city.
Keep in mind they have a number of crispy beefs as well as shredded beefs so make sure you tell them crispy shredded Szechuan beef. I received only shredded beef but it was still great. A bit expensive as well but including the rice you can split this over two meals
A favorite local upper east side neighborhood Chinese sushi spot… Can't say enough positive things about their food, menu options, fresh sushi and outstanding mom and pop restaurant service… And great delivery service . We've been here and ordered takeout countless times … It is our goto spot …
Perfect because it is a combination sushi/ Japanese and Chinese restaurant and since my son doesn't like sushi I can get sushi while he gets Chinese. Normally a combo Chinese/ Japanese restaurant may lack in quality but they are great at both . Sushi chef David focuses on the sushi, is almost always the one behind the sushi bar, always fresh fish and he makes beautiful, fabulous sushi rolls .
Because there are so many sushi restaurants within a few blocks this restaurant often gets overlooked as a sushi spot… And they may get passed by passers by because of their somewhat less visible and outdated awning outside. Once inside the atmosphere is updated, clean, contemporary with plenty of tables perfect for family dining.
I've brought families, many with several children here, and they've always been outstanding with friendly service and accommodating whatever group .
A bonus is a complimentary glass of wine with dinner.
My son's favorite Chinese dish is steamed broccoli and chicken with brown sauce. Egg rolls.
My Favorite specialty sushi rolls:
– Sogo (shrimp, crabmeat, avocado, tuna, salmon scallion drizzled in a sweet special sauce)
– Dragon
– Kiss of fire (spicy roll with white tuna, salmon, jalapeño peppers, wasabi Tobiko wrapped around spicy crunch tuna)
– Sushi cake (spicy salmon crabmeat and tobiko wrapped around spicy tuna avocado)
– Rainbow (crab, avocado, tuna, salmon, yellowtail, fluke, shrimp)
Just tried this place for the first time today since I was a little hungover and very starving. I wanted to grab lunch early and my go-to spot wasn't open yet (it was 11am). This place was pretty good and the lunch special is amazing! Def enough food for 2 meals. For about $8 you get an entree, rice, egg roll and soup! Food was pretty good – definitely hit the spot! I'll be eating the rest of it for dinner. I like the fact that this is a sit-down place too. Many of the chinese spots in the neighborhood are to-go only. I'll def be back!
Yelp Concierge actually recommended this one to us. Perfect fit: a grade A, different neighborhood than we usually go in, nice sit down area, fair prices & they serve sweet and sour chicken. First time I've had it with the sauce on the side.
Going here probably spoils me from eating Chinese takeout at home but I'm glad to have found a nice place to get a sit down Chinese meal.
This is my second time in two days drooling as I neared the door of Hunan Delight. Always skeptical of Chinese establishments (especially in a yuppie part of NYC), this place delivered. Big time. The food is reasonably priced, fills you up quick and will serve as a second meal for later on. That being said, the portions are ridiculously large like your typical Chinese restaurant. I ordered lunch special General Tso's with fried rice, a spring roll and egg drop soup. Daringly, I decided to try their crab Rangoon. I'm sure you'll agree it is hard to find places that make legit CRAB Rangoon. Look no further. I will never find a Rangoon with more visible crab meat unless I move to Maryland.
Egg drop soup: tastes like cooked eggs!
Fried rice: most disappointing but still delicious. A little peppery, but that may have just been a fluke..
General Tso's: seasoned white meat chicken fried to perfection in a deliciously medium spicy sauce (can get mild or spicy on request)
Overall, two thumbs and two toes up!
