3.5 stars.
Very nice people who try exceptionally hard to have perfect service. The restaurant is very classy and comfy. They have a heated porch in the back that's really lovely.
The food was just average for me. Everything was good, nothing was exceptional. I did really enjoy the flaky bread they served with the babaganoush and lebni dips we ordered, and both dips were also quite good.
Prices were reasonable and I'd go back.
I keep debating whether to give this place 2 or 3 stars but the service was really bad. We got there on a Saturday night, and it was packed. I would recommend making reservations. Parking is also a bit tricky. They only had some seats in the back- they did tell us that it would be cold back there. We said we didnt mind. It was quite cold- we had to wear our jackets and gloves throughout the night. But, once again, we were warned. We ordered our drinks and our waiter forgot the Sprite. We got appetizers and it took awhile to come out. I've never gone to a place that when you order hummus, bread or pita doesnt come with it. I had to ask for bread and then it took awhile for that to come out. The bread was really good, but i do feel like they should serve pita with the hummus. They ran out of the fish dish that my friend ordered, and also the other meat dish. Thats two meals that they did not have. It took about an hour and a half before our meal came out. I'm not gonna lie- the food was good, but for that service i would not go back again. They should have came to our table and at least apologized for the wait. Now and days, service counts for a lot, and this place was lacking there.
I went her for the first time recently. It seems to be a great spot, and I can't wait to go back. I was dining with a large group for a friend's birthday. All of the food we ordered was delicious, and it's also BYOB. The group ordered a variety of different appetizers, entrees, and some people even ordered dessert. The turkish coffee was very good! The prices are also very reasonable, it was under $33 a person. I can't wait to come back, and explore more items on the menu.
Two for lunch please. After shopping, we headed for this yelper-recommended Turkish restaurant. Plenty of options on the lunch menu. While my friend's ground lamb was too spicy for her constitution, I loved it. She did too, it just doesn't agree with her. I had the chicken mcver…wow, super tasty – and I felt happy getting my vegetable serving in with the precisely cooked green and red peppers! I'll be googling that sauce to try to replicate it at home. Pleasant, attentive service with two servers – five tables total up front were occupied. I loved the zucchini pancakes. The cozy dining area is simple and warm on a chilly aternoon.
Lunch specials here are great and affordable. For $11 you get a soda, appetizer & lunch. The hummus and bread are really good so definitely give it a shot. The skewered lamb is tender, moist and bursting with flavor. Chicken kebab is great as well, nicely grilled with a unique charcoal flavor. Most entrees are served with white or brown rice and a mini salad.
As far as service, its terrible even if theres 1 table or 10 its always the same. I'd suggest takeout its a dollar cheaper & you don't need to tip or experience bad service. They have a room in the back to enjoy the ambience of New York that's open year round.
This place is family owned and have been doing great business for many years. Food is authentic and freshly made with love and passion.
Really delicious and authentic place. I definitely recommend sitting in the back of the restaurant – there is a enclosed patio with a cool rustic feel to it. The shepherds salad is yummy. I came here for lunch twice. First time I ordered the skewered chopped chicken which I really enjoyed and the second time I ordered the stuffed cabbage, again real good!
I have lived in Carlstadt a long time and have wanted to try this restaurant for quite a while. I was sitting home bored watching some bad movie. I decided why. It treat myself and try Hunkar.
I can in and was greeted by very pleasant girls. I imagine they are family of the restaurant as they spoke with slight scents and sometimes in another language; not annoyingly though. I was asked if I wanted to eat outside. Since the weather is beautiful I decided to eat in the back. I am super happy I decided to eat out back. Their is a nice view of the city and tonight there was a nice soft breeze.
I had a chicken vegetable soup for an appetizer; very good with nice white meat. My appetizer was serve red with warm break and food olive oil. I was so far very pleased. For my main dish I ordered a lamb shank with season vegetables and rice. I also got an imported orange soda which I want another of. The lamb was stew was amazing and I am sure to come and order it again. The meat fell off the bone just perfectly soft and tender but firm enough to handle.
For desert I got s Turkish coffee which finished the night perfectly.
I highly recommend this spot. Happy eating yelpers!
Managed to get a great view overlooking the town, as well as being able to see Metlife Stadium and NYC.
The atmosphere was very nice and casual (minus the spider that got in, but stuff happens). Not a bad place to take a lady friend.
Food has great flavor. My order of the doner kebab was good, but I had to ask for the garlic yogurt sauce.
This place earns only three stars due to poor service. It took an incredibly long time for anything to come out (The bread that they seem to give everybody is good, but took almost 30 min from when we sat down to come by.) Place was understaffed for a Friday evening. If I manage to make it down there again, I hope a proper staff level is kept.
