  1. Ate here on a Sunday evening, before going to see the Tree in Rockafeller Center. Atmosphere was great – very quaint, eclectic, and very nice (linen table cloths, candles, etc.). Definitely 5 stars on that. Had to ask for bread 3 times, food was okay, and prices could have been better. All in all, an ok spot, but of all the places in NYC definitely didn't blow me away.

  2. I had the swordfish with mango chutney with lobster bisque and cheesecake for 35 bucks. All delicious and the service was great.  Had the cutest Irish bartender which makes the whole experience even better. And it's my birthday in NYC in new years eve so I guess my review also reflects my mood :). In all seriousness great food and even atmosphere I'm fully satisfied

  3. Seriously?!?! We stopped in here because we were staying at the Gallivant (right next door). We had about 45 min to kill before we hail a cab back to the airport.

We ordered 2 drafts. My mom sipped hers and it was bad. The bartender mysteriously disappeared… We finally flagged down some bus boy (?) and he poured her a new one… Which was even skunkier!!! (I took a whiff and nearly vomited it was so gross.) So we flag the busser down AGAIN and he says he will get her something else… But continued to do what he was doing for another 5+ minutes… Still no sight of our initial bartender. This is now about 15 minutes in and my mom still hadn't been able to enjoy a beer and the clock was ticking. Finally the kid gets her a bottle of Bud Light and she vowed to never drink draft again.

The bartender eventually came back around, (where she went for so long, I have no idea) but we told her the Bud Light draft was skunky, she replies, "Must be the end of the keg." No "sorry" or apology in any way.

Needless to say, this will be our only stop here as we are leaving the city in 10 minutes…

  4. Hurley's is conveniently located near Broadway theaters for pre-show dinners. The restaurant has a rustic feel, and I can see a lot of business lunches happening here.

Hurley's has a great prix fixe deal before 7pm, which includes an appetizer, entree, and dessert. Because I wasn't too hungry, I just ordered the Swardfish entree. It arrived as a pretty big filet of char-grilled swordfish with mango chutney, a choice of mashed potato, baked potato, or french fries, and steamed vegetables. I thought the meal itself was very healthy. The mango chutney tasted really artificial. The baked potato was served with a scoop of sour cream. The swordfish itself was really bland so I had to put some salt. My boyfriend got the Tuscan Roasted Chicken, which was 1/2 roasted chicken with herbs and spices. The portion was huge. Another person got the Steakhouse Char-Grilled Hanger Steak salad with fresh mozzarella, tomatoes, roasted red peppers, field greens, and balsamic soy dressing. She really enjoyed it!

  5. Cool spot to hang out.

  6. Came here in the early evening to grab some drinks and a snack with some friends! We ran into Michael Cera, which was cool, and the place overall was really chill. I tried the Strongbow Cider, and it was really tasty!! It was not too strong and not too dilute…a perfect light drink. While two of my friends share fries, another friend and I shared the pizza margarita. It had a crispy thin crust and it was delicious. Some of the best bar food I've had!

The place itself had a nice vibe. It was warm inside and there was a good mix of people. The layout with the two sides of the bar was nice as well! I definitely put Hurley's on my list and would love to come back here soon.

  7. An odd mix of theatre going tourists and office happy hours make for a weird crowd, but there is actually a decent amount of seating. The bartenders are friendly but a bit flaky as our tab was neither closed, nor apparently even charged. The sofas around are comfy and offer adequate seating for the crowd that seems to gather around the door. The draft beer selection was large, but don't expect anything out of the ordinary beyond typical hoegarden and Goose Island.

  8. I can imagine that this place had its heyday but that has certainly passed. It depends what you're looking for. If you're looking for a placed steeped in history and mediocrity you're in luck! If you're more about the atmosphere and a place trying desperately to be upscale and fancy than what's on your plate, go ahead. The rolls were clearly frozen before, sautéed spinach dripping with oil, the "exquisite" beer selection severely lacking, timing of courses rushed. An overall poor gastronomical experience. If you actually care about food, skip this tourist trap and keep looking. You'll look like a pro if you do and you'll avoid the hoards of tourists.
