  1. We found this place via YELP!

Got the chocorilla.  We waited about 30 minutes.  It's really cool to observe and see it made, but the wait was ridiculous.

When we ate it, we realized it was just ice cream! LOL. But, the presentation and the hype were nice.

I'd probably go back to show friends or family. But, it's busy and you're most likely going to wait.  Seating is also limited.

  2. Very interesting and awesome concept. Its fun to watch them make your dessert in front of you. The down side is that there's a process behind it so it takes some time for you to get your dessert depending on the size of the crowd already waiting. The variety of flavors offered here sound and taste amazing. The space is puny so pretty much you'll have to enjoy your ice cream outside.

  3. ~ The first to bring this concept to America was Juicy spot cafe, they opened July 11, 2015.
~ As of 2016 there are more then 10 thai ice cream roller parlors in new York, "10below" being the most popular one.
    ~ Usually a 20-35 minutes wait.
    ~ Limited seating.
    ~ Above average ice cream.
~ The large size is worth the price, not the regular

My five star is for the "ability" to have an overall five star experience!!!

Those are the three conditions to have a positive experience.
    1. you have to choose the right combo, some flavors and combos are disappointing.
    2. you have to be willing to wait 25-40 minutes for your ice cream to be hand rolled.
    3. your choice of coming here is not only because of the flavors or combo's, but because you want to see in person how they roll your ice cream right in front of you…

    Rating:
    Ambiance – 5 star
Watching how they roll – 5 star
    Instagrammable – 5 star
    Kid friendliness – 5 star
Taste of flavor – 3.9 star
    Mixers – 5 star
    Toppings – 5 star

    My favorite combination is.
Ice Cream flavor: Thai Iced Tea.
    Mixer: cheesecake.
Toppings: mochi, red bean or lychee.
    Drizzle: condensed milk.

This is how it works here:
When walking in, try getting to the register on the left, also because this is a small place, not everybody in front of you is actually waiting in line to order… Ask for a menu at the register, and check what combination you would like, you will choose four things, the "Ice cream flavor", the "Mixer" that gets mixed into the ice cream, "toppings" – it's not unlimited, and the "Drizzle", they have some recommended combos on the wall.

When you will order you will get a number, and usually the cashier will tell you the wait time, while waiting for your ice cream rolls, feel free to enjoy the spectacle.

These Thai ice cream rolls are very popular in Thailand, it's made on a steel plate that is chilled to -35 °C. the mixture is chopped and stirred while crystallizing, until creamy. the frozen mixture is then scraped into a swirl,  and Ooh La La! It's ready to be consumed…

    Ps.
This whole Thai Street, Ice Cream roll/curls market is only a year old in new York, the first one – juicy spot cafe – only opened last July, and new york is already, as of July 2016, 10+ strong, with 10below their main competition, opening a third location in Queens this week, where am going with all this you wonder?

So here is my point, because this is a new concept in new York, it wouldn't be fair to ask for perfection, or demand certain standards, when there isn't any… They are all still figuring it out! we don't know yet how many more will open, who will make it, and what the future holds for this niche product, will it blow up, or will it die down…

That's why it's really hard for me to rate a place like this accurately. without the above caveats, and if I rate this place solely on the quality of the ice cream then this deserves tops a 3.9 star… till this market stabilizes, let's get some more liquid Nitrogen Ice Cream shops in new York…

  4. After a good meal a creamy dessert is always nice to have, in this case a Matcha Mania was what I went for after dinner. The ice cream here is some of the best I've had and a great finish to a heavy meal.

The space is well lit and inviting with comfortable seating and layout. The staff is really friendly and orderly. The order was made and in under five minutes I was already eating the ice cream. The park is near by as well so that's always an option.

The process of it all is pretty cool to watch. They pour the ingredients and repeatedly chop them up and flatten them out to make a crepe like product that they scrape and roll up to put in a cup.

The red bean topping is the best I've had at any ice cream shop, though the rice cake was ok, really nothing special there.

Would suggest this place for a cool down after a heavy dinner. Come alone or with a group, it works both ways.

  5. This literally just tastes like ice cream. Except for the fact that they cut everything up and make the toppings more chopped (some can be just on top). But there's something very pleasing to the eyes when you're watching it all be rolled into your little ice cream cup…

  6. Simply didn't get it. Waited for an ice cream for 15 minutes! After such a long wait I was expecting to be blown away…that did not happen. Just an average ice cream. However, I am not an ice cream expert…Also, it felt like this place might  have some safety violations. There was about 20 people packed inside this place so it was not possible to move around, felt like I was at Justin Bieber concert. Maybe they should have someone standing outside and let people in and out.

  7. Thai me up!

These new Thai ice cream places are popping up all over Manhattan, I CE NY is the latest iced dessert to roll into the city.

Ice cream anything has me buzzin', I'd like to try something that's slowly introduced everywhere. But this isn't a typical churned ice cream that you spoon into a cone. Think of Stone Cold Ice cream. You choose a mix in and then they chop it, swirl it and then scrape it.

    Scrape it?!?

Yep, they have a special griddle that freezes the ice cream and then they use these, it looks like putty knives, they scrape the finished product into a roll. Take enough rolls and fill up a cup. Throw a couple of toppings and sauces on top and then you have a frozen Thai treat.

That NYC is lining up for, (like me)

The four of us pushed away some sexy Italian gelato after dinner and decided for some Thai funkiness. We never had it before and I've been watching the hype, I'm game for something fun and new.

The line wasn't too bad. The space itself is very small, there are a few tables to the right that management doesn't clean too often. We ordered two flavors, chocolate & Cookie Spree

The Chocorilla is what's made first. It's Chocolate Ice Cream, Banana, Oreo & Pocky cookies and Nutella Sauce. What came thru was the banana. I was expecting something exotic, Valrhona French Chocolate? Something. Nah. This is hodge podge of ice cream thats been scraped into a roll and dropped into a bowl. If your looking for creamy, dreamy ice cream? This isn't it. Its frozen rolls with mix ins thats been chopped and flattened. The end result is, it was fun experience to see but if your craving "ice cream", this is a different spin on the treat we all know and love.

My nieces have the I CE NY videos on instagram, it was fun to watch them make the product but I don't think I'll make another trip to Thai ice cream.

    S EE YA I CE

  8. This review is for the first week that they first opened. This is also the time when rolled ice cream was just starting to pick up steam in the food trend world.

The space is small. Seating will be tight. The wait wasn't that bad but there was still a line late into the night.

I ordered the Thai ice cream rolls. I thought it was on par with all the other rolled ice cream shops that I've tried.

Located directly next to Melt Kraft sandwich store it was conveniently located close to where I used to work in the West Village.

    FAN.
