AMAZING! Just as good as I remembered, if not better! I bought a good friend here for her bday dinner and omg, we both loved everything. I normally don't like to go to a restaurant more than once, even if it was amazing the first time… because there are so many other places to try and I'm afraid to be disappointed. Ichabods did not disappoint! The squash dumplings were divine, tuna tara left us wanting more, the duck was perfectly cooked, and we ended the meal with their homemade ice cream! Yum… cannot say more! Oh, and their staff are very sweet and attentive 🙂
Went here to meet up with my girlfriend and her friend after work on a Friday for a drink and small bites and had a really nice experience! I had a great cocktail that was their twist on a Sazerac (called an Ode to New Orleans) that was both an innovative and delicious tweak on a classic. My girlfriend had a gin drink with mint, lavender, and creme yvette that was light, refreshing and tasty.
For small bites we had the crispy fried artichokes, fried calamari, and the squash dumplings. The squash dumplings were a buttery, sweet and savory bite and were really delicious even with a much more autumn/winter than summer flavor profile. The fried calamari salad was very good with pickled peppers, arugula, lemon and an aioli dipping sauce creating a nice balance of flavor. The tuna tartare was very elegant and paired nicely with the homemade potato chips. The only disappointment was the fried artichoke salad which was actually so forgettable that I had to look up the menu to remember what it was paired with (I have a very good memory, especially for food and I went 3 nights ago).
We also shared a sunday with vanilla ice cream, marshmallow fluff, chocolate sauce, caramel, and pretzels that was incredibly decadent but definitely cloying. I thought the ratio of ice cream to fluff was off, with way too much fluff and not enough ice cream. You know something is a bit too sweet when you want vanilla ice cream to mellow the sweetness of the rest of the dish.
Overall I had a very nice time. I thought the snacks were good, but some of them were a bit expensive for what they were, especially the crispy artichokes. Additionally the menu was American fare but it was not seasonally driven if that's something that bothers you. Cute spot, good location, good company, good drinks, pretty good food, would recommend!
OK, let me start out by saying that i was not expecting this place to be as fantastic as it ended up being. Completely blow away. So far, this is one of the top 3 best dinners I've had in New York. This food was OUT OF CONTROL.
First off, the atmosphere is super cozy and cute, great for a date night. Wooden and rustic, dim lighting, pretty tiny but not too crammed. The service was great, waiter was friendly and very helpful.
Drink menu was very unique, I just got some wine tonight but am definitely coming back to try the specialty cocktails. Now to the food….
This dinner is one that I'll remember forever. First we got the squash dumplings which I highly recommend. Incredibly unique taste, something extremely special. I was blown away right off the bat. Then we got the crab melt, probably my favorite dish of the night. How did they come up with this? I don't know, but I need to know this recipe because it's the best thing I've ever tasted. For out main course we shared the special of the night which was a risotto with shrimp and bacon…also amazing!!! Everything really knocked my socks off. I'm extremely happy we stumbled upon this place because I'll be coming back here very soon.
I highly recommend this place to EVERYONE! Whether you're going with friends, date night, or just hanging at the bar, this place is flawless. One of my favorites in NYC. Such a gem. Thank you for existing.
I'm going out on whim and say Ichabod's is THE place to go to when you're around Union Square. Granted, I did not sample any of their desserts I can safely bet that they're all delicious. I couldn't order any since I was stuffed with their amazing fare and drinks. My friend and I shared 3 small plates and 1 large plate and each of us had 2 beverages, hence the dessert declination.
In the order of get-this-asap, great, and good small plates, here they are: ribs, squash dumplings, burrata
The crispy duck is good but it was rather expensive for the plate; one breast over a bed of grains for $31 is a little pricey even by NYC standards. Happy hour drinks are excellent so get them while you can. Spring Bramble was fantastic and refreshing! Ginger Root and Half Life were also lovely; coming from a person who don't like ginger drinks that's a definite plus! Unfortunately we were too full to even finish our second round of beverages so guess what? We'll be coming back!
Nothing I love more than a simple menu. Service was great- our waitress checked up on us constantly which I loved. We ordered the crab melt which was aimeizing. It was a toasted piece of bread filled with loads of crabmeat and topped with a pepper I believe. Next came the arugula salad which was super refreshing as it had a light dressing with blue cheese and watermelon radish! But my main takeaway was definitely the crispy duck with foie gras rice. Umphhhhh I'm still thinking about it right now.
Service and food are both fantastic. Here's the load down — we arrived a little early and hung out at the bar. Cocktail menu is very unique and everything is delicious. I had the one with bourbon and one with Jameson (don't remember the names) and really enjoyed both. We had to wait an extra half hour because the turn over wasn't as fast as anticipated but the host made up for it by throwing in a couple free appetizers =]
(apologies in advance for not remembering the dish names)
All together we tried the pita bread, fried peppers, squash dumplings, duck, steak and the s'more dessert. EVERYTHING WAS BOMBBB. Highlights include the squash dumplings, duck and s'more dessert. The fried peppers are also kinda fun and different. I will say that when you ask for something cooked medium, it comes out a little more rare. We asked them to cook the duck and the steak through a little more and it came out perfect.
I really really enjoyed my evening here, will definitely be coming back often.
Their vegetarians options were all delicious and filling, probably because of the brown butter they use
Had their squash dumplings, great texture for the pasta and smooth squash filling that wasn't undercooked or gritty
Lemon Artichoke app had a texture that was kind of difficult to swallow because it was dried out but also delicious
Their spaghetti special with home made spaghetti was delicious although it wasn't al dente (possibly on purpose)
Burrata was for reals burrata, creamy filling and everything. Although they had green peas and no tomatoes in their panzanella. The bread in it wasn't soggy
Sundae – totally overrated. Melted marshmallow crust with plain vanilla ice cream underneath and Cracker Jack at the bottom. Caramel drizzles on the sides the cup
Great shelf storage for bags behind the seating
Dimly lit
Very classy custom made cloth like paper towels in the bathroom
These Yelp pictures make everything look really good. It was good, but not amazing. I came here for brunch and ordered the fried chicken thighs with biscuit and gravy. I didn't expect the chicken to be boneless. The fried exterior is an interesting texture, and there's a lot of seasoning on it–a little bit overdone because I found it a bit salty. Still good, though. It comes with two big pieces of boneless chicken. I was only able to finish one, and I took the other piece in a doggie bag to-go.
The biscuit was underwhelming. Having lived in the South, I have high expectations for chicken and biscuits, and this did not live up to them. The biscuit was not fluffy at all, but the gravy was pretty good. Not sure if I'd come back, though their ice cream sundae looks pretty good.
