The original plan was to try pizza in Juliana or Grimaldi's. However, at 2pm we really don't have much patience to wait on the long line for a slice of pizza. We ordered a medium white pizza with mushroom and two sodas, which is the perfect portion for two people. My advice is to eat the first slice asap without burning your tongue. The pizza came out steaming hot, but the first slice was the best. My third slice cooled down already and was not as enjoyable as the first slice. The flavor of the pizza is just right, it's not greasy at all, and it doesn't taste heavy enough that you would feel guilty about it.
I don't know how the pizzas are in Juliana or Grimaldi's. Ignazio is definitely not a bad option if you don't want to wait on the long lines.
Waiting in line for grimaldis was not an option; the last stop on my pizza to do list for the day, wasn't going to be prolonged, so, I called in my order to grimaldis and walked around the corner to Ignazio's to give it a try. Glad I did, good pizza, brilliant crispy crust, nice flavor, attentive service, and a great view. All the other reviewers may buy into the hype of grimaldis as did I perhaps… But, Ignazio's pulls through and really isn't overshadowed by Grimaldis at all. Check it out with and open mind and enjoy.
Two words: tourist trap! Cash only! Who wants soggy pizza and inefficient service? Situated next to the world famous River Cafe, this place offers limited alcohol options (only 1 chardonnay and 1 red wine brand, really?). DUMBO has plenty of better food choices.
What's with all the bad reviews?
Thanks to a friend who never checks Yelp, we stumbled into this place after seeing the lines for Grimaldis and Julianas and were pleasantly surprised. Sure, the wait was still long even though we were the first in line. Sure, they told us 5 minutes when in reality it was 25. Cash only and pricey pizza… but hey, it was good!
We got the special: avocado bacon tomato. It wasn't really anything special but it was pretty tasty. I got a cappuccino which took a long time also. But maybe that's their trick: make you wait a long time to get your appetite roaring.
I don't understand all the negative reviews. I came here and ordered the margarita pizza and it was really good. Honestly pizza is pizza. As long as your crust isn't too mushy or too hard and as long as your sauce is delicious, you have a good pizza and that is what I had here. Also, I don't think it's worth waiting a ridiculous amount of time to eat at grimaldis around the corner. ALSO, you get an awesome view of the brooklyn bridge as you happily eat your pizza. The only reason I left out a star is because they only accept cash.
Was here for a private event. Service was great! Very friendly, helpful and also made sure we had everything we needed. Selection of drinks was awesome. Seems like they sell lots of local sodas and beer!! The pizzas was delicious as well. We tried a variety of their special pies but I really wished I tried a simple cheese and sauce pizza. Taco pizza was very spicy but it tasted true to a taco from Mexico. The bacon, avocado and tomato was surprising yummy. The creaminess of the avocado really pulled all the flavors together. As for the shrimp pizza, it was my least favorite. I just felt like they just threw some shrimp on a pizza and called it day. I think if they chopped the shrimp into smaller pieces it would really blend all flavors together in each bite. My favorite and the reason why I would return here is for their tender and flavorful meatball app and house salad with their house dressing! Seriously so good.
I've been here only once but I really liked the experience. The pizza was delicious! Piping hot, fresh, and so well seasoned. The location is wonderful – you get a beautiful view of the Brooklyn Bridge from the restaurant. I didn't have a problem with the service, actually. They were patience, kind, friendly, and everything good actually. I would definitely come back to this place. My only caveat is that it's a cash only place. For someone who rarely carries cash, it's a bit of an inconvenience but it is what it is! I'll be better prepared next time!
I went to eat here in the afternoon for 4th of July first lets me start as to why 4 stars where taken off.
The host was nice great welcoming took us to our seats and everything looked good she gave us the menus. Almost 25min later when we were about to walk out the server comes over. In the entire time that we were waiting not even water was brought over to is. And honestly the place wasn't that busy no lines outside for people waiting like the other pizza places on the corner. We should have taken that as out clue, in the time we waited we read other people review about the service. So now that our server is there and taking our order we decided to stay and give it a try. The give the tiny glass soda which I didn't like very much because the one I got was a little flag not sure how when I've had them in the past. While enjoying our pizza I see the guy cleaning the table next to us, he checks the napkin put it back and just added new utensils I almost drop the food in my mouth. That was just nasty whether it's dirty or not you should not be reusing napkins and I know what I saw along with my friend. We decided it was time to go, The pizza was just okay thin nothing to rave about. So we signal out server she was at another table pouring beer from a bottle into a glass and we asked for the check. We wanted the last 2 slices to go I don't like to waste food so I decided to get the slice to go. Because I was sure we would see someone that was begging for food we could offer because we passed 2 before we decided to get food
Then the table next to us was telling their server how his calculation was wrong when she added the numbers there was just too much errors going on in this place at once.
What made us rate this place so bad was when asked for the check. And this was just nasty our server leaves the check goes over to the side where they pick food up and drop off ect. I'm just staring over my friends shoulder when I see her grab the slice of pizza with her hand I tapped my friend. Who looks to see her touching the second slice and doing the same. She brought it over I was speechless, we left the cash ontop of the to go pizza and walked out
Servers should not be touching peoples food with their hands, they should be wearing gloves.
