Walking home from the subway, I decided to deviate from my usual path and in doing so came across this nice looking storefront. The street is small and not highly trafficked. Most of the other shops on the street are not places you would want to go, so Iguaza definitely stands out. Kinda hungry, I stood outside in the cold and quickly yelped them to see if it was worth going in, and was frankly surprised (based on the area) to see so many positive reviews.
As soon as I walked in I was welcomed by the owner's son and asked if it was my first time there. I said yes and he very nicely suggested popular menu items. This kind of customer service is rare, but even more surprising considering the surroundings and modest prices. It quickly became apparent that this small business takes pride in their work. The actual physical location was VERY clean and nicely decorated. Great exposed brick walls on both ends of the restaurant. They have a department of health A rating and great service, combined with tasty food, what more can you as for in a little mom and pop restaurant? I only had a quesadilla, which was good, but I'm kinda curious to go back and try more.
Before the real-estate boom, Manhattan used to be filled with great little family owned restaurants like this, less and less everyday. Nice to see that places like this can still exist, at least on a forgotten street in the middle of nowhere.
If you are in the area and want some tasty/affordable food, this is definitely a good place to try.
Service alone deserves 5 stars.
Food deserves another 5 stars.
(Why can't I give 10 stars!?)
I stopped by at around 8:10 today (June 12) because I was desperately craving some tacos. Saw the yelp reviews and decided to come here. I was taken aback by the friendly service here (cashier working today I'm sorry I didn't get your name). He answered my questions with ease and explained to me why they close at 8:30pm instead of the listed 10:00pm on the menu. That's fine with me i'll just head here earlier!
They ran out of chicken wings today, darn that made me really want some!
I had a beef taco and chicken taco along with a beef empanada. It. Was. Divine. Think fresh cilantro with perfectly marinated meats with onion and their special green sauce on the side.
I will definitely be back Iguazu!!
Good spot in the neighborhood that's fresh, tasty, and affordable. I've had both tacos and the meat was really solid. Though they suffer a bit from soggy tortilla syndrome (which literally every taco west of Texas has) so iunno it's what it is.
I also had the iguazu chicken platter which was chicken thighs cooked tenderly with some good rice, beans, tostones, and salad. It's all pretty healthy too which sometimes is hard to do around here.
I'm gonna check it out for breakfast at some point.
This review is for their lunch….
Just stopped in here for their breakfast, but didn't make it on time – breakfast ends at 3 p.m. So, we decided to try their lunch as they have a good variety on the menu.
Got it to go, went home, and was completely disgusted. The "chicken" soup had one piece of chicken in it…that was covered in fat. The mashed potatoes are straight out the box…and you can smell the flakes! No salt, no butter…nothing. I ate one spoonful and it tasted like paste. The empanada was bland with no flavor…not even in the shredded chicken – tasted like a piece of moist cardboard.
I know this place is cheap…but, come on. I paid $3 for boxed mashed potatoes? I can get homemade mashed potatoes anywhere…even at Crown Fried Chicken.
Two stars because the guy behind the counter was awesome and my can of Diet Coke really hit the sugar spot.
I will come back to try the breakfast and, hopefully, update my review.
It's just aright. I came here at 1pm for lunch and I wondered if its because I came here late, the buffet had almost no food left. There was 4 very sad looking pieces of friend chicken thighs, noodles, rice and cauliflower left. There was also an (almost) full container of chicken ribs (or at least that's what someone in line told me.) I grabbed a bit of everything and the total came out to a little over 7 dollars. I thought the food was okay but underwhelming. Everything tastes very average but it wasn't bad. i would probably come earlier when they have more variety and quantity of food next time.
Muy bueno! Además bonito y barato, sobre todo para el desayuno.
Muy amable servicio aunque puede tardar un poco la comida.
++++
Very good! Nice and inexpensive, specially for breakfast.
Very amiable service although orders can take a bit to come out.
