Il Fornaio Bakery Cafe

“To justify my 5 star rating, you only need to understand these two words: CANNOLI DONUT.”

“They have inexpensive breakfast sandwiches in the morning, and they make a very good, albeit too hot, soy latte.”

“I've been on the quest to find the perfect rainbow cookie in Astoria, and this may be it.”

  1. Just ok for me. I heard cannolis were good so i wanted to try them and they were just meh and the bakery is quite pricey. they don't tell you the prices they just calculate the total in their heads  Scary.

  2. Excellent bakery, friendly counter service and many standout goodies. The two unique items that caught my eye,  was the guava rugelach and the guava filled cheese strudel both sinful and delicious. This is a true old fashion bakery.

  3. Your typical average bakery I say.

I like chocolate so I order one of the pastry cookies in the shape of a person and a piece of chocolate cake, the chocolate flavor is there but it's bland, just like the coffee. Bland. There's not much more to say.

They win for customer service though. The second I entered the bakery, there was one customer already done ordering and I was asked what I needed right away.

Jokeative staff: I ordered a Cafe Con Leche because it's what I've known to order at other places and it taste better than plain ordering coffee. So he informs me with the comment "you know it's only coffee with milk, right". Yes, I do but most of the time when I order it this way at my local spot I get frothed milk with a stronger and tastier coffee, what am I missing? The secret in ordering it by name or is it a recipe for the coffee makers with choosing the right bean at my spot.

    Oh well…

-nice atmosphere, nice setting to enjoy inside on wooden glossy tables.

-my review is basically labeling the goodies a bland/basic bakery: good, not bad but average.

  4. Finally checked this place out.  Really nice folk running the place, a great assortment of sweet treats, good espresso beverages, and they take card.

Really nice to know that they have fresh turkey & ham croissant sandwiches….though $6+ seemed a bit much for lunch meat and cheese on a croissant at this kind of venue.

Still, a big fan of this place.  Try them out!

ps – they TECHNICALLY have outdoor seating, since there are benches at the park across the street 😉

  5. I stumbled upon this place on my determined walk to reward myself with a bubble tea. This place is super adorable on the outside and inside. The decor gives it a very inviting vibe. First of all the options are endless with the dessert choices. I wanted everything! But I was in the mood for a cupcake so there were quite a few unique looking ones. I asked the staff for the chocolate hazelnut ball one. It was made with a nutella frosting. It was super cremely light and delicious! The price was pretty average for desserts about 3.50 for the cupcake. But to me it was worth it because it is great to come across great new finds and creative flavors. The staff was friendly and nicely explained and showed me the different types of flavors they have.

  6. The eclair was OK, the custard was good, but the pastry part was a little hard and stale, the Neapolitan was just mushy, again the custard was good but the pastry part was just a soggy mess.

  7. For a bakery, their desserts are pretty meh: I've had cookies, cupcakes, muffins and other desserts here, and have found myself throwing them out because they haven't been worth the extra calories to me. Their red velvet cupcake is the only one I have found to be a somewhat decent treat. That being said, I will add that they make very solid lunch and breakfast sandwiches. Their breakfast croissant with egg and cheese is heaven and their deli meat sandwiches are fresh and tasty; however, the price for a wedge is on the pricy side. So skip the sweets, but sit in their newly remodeled, very inviting space and have something savory.

  8. My go to bakery for freshly made pastries. Usually a few individual pastries are given as a lil bday gift to good friends. Reasonably priced for taste and freshness.
    Red velvet cake
Peanut butter cupcake and fresh fruit tart are my faves. Never fails!
