From the street the menu read as affordable and tasty. We decided to step in. Prior to ordering I went to the ladies room. None of the bathrooms toilets were flushed and they had mounds of toilet paper in each three of the commodes. The women's room was gross. It didn't seem to bother any of the few patrons that were in the place. Or the staff. We picked up and left.
Il Forno was an awesome find for a quick dinner surrounded by adorable Italian-esque ambiance. The Grilled Atlantic Salmon was really delicious with cucumber and tomato with a pesto sauce. It was the perfect amount of pesto. The Beet salad with purple and yellow beets, goat cheese, and pistachio nuts made a wonderful combination. The service was quick and the doors open so that you feel like you're basically sitting outside. I really enjoyed my experience here.
I would have given this 4 stars, but there is SO MUCH Italian competition in NYC, it is a tough category to judge. Having said, that it was very tasty and flavorful, fit the bill for us after the theater, and would definitely recommend it or go again if we were in the area. The menu was well priced and varied. The atmosphere was calm and serene which for us on our first night in NY after traveling 2/3 of the day, was perfect. We ordered up bruschetta, shared a mushroom pasta bowl and a bottle of wine. All of it was excellent. The service for 11:00 pm was very attentive and friendly. The restaurant was only half full, but I don't know if that was good or bad! I'm glad we chose this and please do not avoid it because 3 stars is average. We ate at Carmine's and I'd pick Il forno in a heartbeat over Carmines again, but they are totally different places, too.
-1 Star just because I was unable to sit anywhere I wanted 2 and the a Restaurant was empty at the time
We had dinner here before we saw a show and it was delicious and fresh. It tasted very authentic. We had the burrata appetizer with kale and it was very good. Both of out pasta dishes were excellent as well.

Came here before our broadway show as other places were packed. At first thought it looked good, but was extremely disappointed with how the meal turned out. First we had to wait a good 30 minutes before a table opened up. After being seated, the food came out extremely slowly and it was nearly difficult to get the attention of any waiter.
I ordered one of their pasta dishes and the noodles tasted like something out of a microwave dinner. Not Al Dente at all and it was like eating a thin piece of gum that would break ever so easily in your mouth. We also ordered an asparagus and egg appetizer which was fibrous beyond belief, only included four short pieces of asparagus. For the price, none of the dishes were worth it and portions were tiny.
I actually went after dinner to buy some pies so that I wouldn't get hungry during our show. This place in my mind is just a tourists trap so I'd definitely recommend eating somewhere else.
After being quoted a 40 minute wait at another restaurant, we decided to walk around to see what we could find…and I'm glad we did! We walked past Il Forno and saw they had just two tables open…we were able to get one just on the edge of the open doors, so kind of patio-like seating.
The service was great…no problems there. The food was amazing! We started with Cesar salads (which were good, but honestly, it doesn't take much), the Brussels sprouts were amazing! My gf had the paperdelli pasta (I tasted….VERY good) and I had the roasted chicken pizette (also yummy).
I'm glad we just happened to walk by this place…a great find. Go there – you'll love it!
It was between the two shows on Saturday and I stopped in to have the orecchiette with a basil alfredo sauce. Delicious! It is across the street from the Milford Plaza and if you are going with a group, a reservation is prudent. I would recommend and return, especially if you are seeing Kinky Boots, Pippin or Les Miz.
