Wow, what a pleasant surprise this restaurant was. Stopped here on a business trip, as it was close to the hotel, and found great food, outstanding service, a diverse and inviting menu and a calm dining oasis. I especially enjoyed the Caesar salad (all dressings are house-made) which was crisp, fresh and flavorful. They offer a prix fix menu which has wonderful four set of selections… I look forward to returning again when I am in the area…!
Came her for dinner on a Friday night recently. I had been by it many times looking out the window on the train back from the city, but had never dined here before. The outside looked just ok to me, so you could say I judged the book by its cover. However, my dad decided to make a reservation here based on reviews he saw on opentable. We had a 730 reservation, and we showed up at about 715. Place was pretty empty, would've thought it would be more crowded on a Friday night. We decided to have a drink at the bar first, which is a nice new area. Bar is dark and has a very new feeling to it, newer than the rest of the restaurant actually. I really liked the bar area, and they had a nice selection of hard alcohol, beer, and wines by the glass or bottle. The bartender was pretty cute in skin tight black leggings, and she poured me a healthy sized knob creek on the rocks. There are about 8 seats at the L shaped bar, and there is a flat screen tv as well that they had the mets game on that night.
Halfway through our drinks we were seated, a nice candlelit table for 3. The room was pretty spacious for actually not being so large, and our table was set off from many of the others. We started with the hot antipasto special, which featured rice balls, eggplant parm, and a few other hot traditional Italian items. We also got the Buffala mozzarella salad special, which was really good too. Bread was great, a basket with a few different types and a few types of olive oil on the side. When we ordered a bottle of wine off the reserve list (stags leap Artemis at $95), they swirled it and decanted it in a pretty showy fashion table side. I thought this was pretty cool. My dad and I both got the special black squid ink linguine pasta with lobster and mussels. It was good but not great. Needed more pasta, although the sauce was good. Was not the most filling dish of all time. The other in our group got the special pounded stuffed veal chop, which was a good size and delicious. If I came back I'd likely go for veal.
For dessert I had a cannoli and my dad went for ricotta Italian cheesecake. Both were really good, and we did a glass of amaretto on the rocks each. Our waiter was good, fresh off the boat Italian and not too pushy or inattentive. The candlelit vibe of this place, with white tablecloths and waiters decked out in formal attire, makes you feel like you need to dress up. However, I went in shorts with a polo and boat shoes and was fine. This place is very good, much better than I expected, and I'd definitely come back. At $340 before tip I did feel like it was a bit overpriced, but we did get a lot of food and a nice bottle of wine.
