  1. This is a real LES gem with excellent Italian style dishes and fantastic Wine selection both by bottle and glass.

Staff here are great – lots of local color. And the management here really knows it's stuff  with food – menu being a bit old school but no complaints – fantastic pastas, panini, fetunta, veggies etc. All executed perfectly.

    Interesting place – highly recommended.

  2. Was here with hubby last night for much needed date night. He told me he had been to this place before, it was all homemade and delicious. I am glad, I went with his request. This place is soo charming. Great spot with a nice decor and dim lighting. There was a singer outside and guitar player. Even some guys in lawn chairs sitting next to fire hydrant.

We were greeted by the owner, Julio. Very nice fellow who gave us a great table despite the fact the restaurant was full. My husband mentioned that Julio& his wife run the restaurant and everything this authentic. The food really didn't disappoint. We ordered the tuna appetizer, branzino and polenta. Tuna was very light, fresh and flavorful. Came in a very nicely decorated plating. It also had a piece of mandarin which give it great flavor. The fish was just amazing, well seasoned and grilled to perfection. Very light dish and the broccoli robe complemented the fish well. Was my first time trying polenta and it was just heaven. What an amazing flavor. I am regretting, I didn't order two.  Service was great, we were taken care of and, forgot to mention the bread basket. Was simply delicious and soft. Overall, wonderful dinning experience. Prices were reasonable, charming little spot and ofcourse great food. Highly recommended.

  3. I fell in love with this place.

Was actually heading to Supper down the block but decided to try something new instead. I cant say enough good things about this place. Its small but its cozy. Theres a dim beautiful ambiance here which I loved. The service was extremely attentive and the food is AMAZING. Ordered a bottle of Riesling which was excellent. Then decided to start with the eggplant croquettes which were delicious!!!! Definitely not your typical eggplant dish. The fresh mozzarella was superb. For entrees ordered the fettuccine with mushroom, garlic, oil and cherry tomatoes. That dish totally exceeded my expectations, it was perfect. I was ready to order a second order of it because it was that good. After that finished with the filet mignon & arugula which was delicious as well. The steak was juicy and the salad was fresh. This place is beautiful and if your in the area I would highly recommend it. Its still the East Village so on top of great food you'll still get that chill vibe!

  4. Still a really fantastic restaurant! The staff is so personable, and the owner enjoys playing the host, offering recommendations and chatting with everyone.

The food is just as amazing as ever, every bite bursting with flavor. The cavatelli is still a favorite, but the meatballs are absolutely out of this world. They are melt in your mouth, almost fall apart tender, coated in a generous amount of slightly sweet red sauce. I forget what it's called on the menu, but they have this dish with wide pasta and cherry tomatoes that seems deceptively simple. I'm not usually such a fan of cherry tomatoes but the sauce is just so damn flavorful and delicious.

  5. This isn't a full on meal kind of place.  It's a true wine bar.  You tell them what kind of wine you would like to have and they pick out the perfect one for you, and if you don't like it, they toss it and pour you another with no added charge, nice…

The small plates we had were delicious too.  They offer this amazing plate of sweet and spicy green peppers pan fried and then tossed with a crunchy salt, amazing!  We also enjoyed the Frito Misto, lightly battered and fried calamari, jumbo shrimp and sage leaves, such a great dish. Tried the Polenta cakes with mixed mushrooms, the grilled octopus and the cod fritters.  All very good as well.

Sat at the bar and had the best time sampling various varieties of red, people watching and talking.  Not once did we feel rushed to pay and go.

  6. Ambiance good. Wine good. Food goood.

Linguine with vongole was delish. I recommend adding the tomatoes to it. We also shared the caprese which tasted very fresh!

The portions are on the smaller side. They recommended two dishes per person. Also, they seemed to be a little short on staff so there was a delay, but they were still delightful nonetheless.

  7. Spotted: Padma Lakshmi!
    Score.

Came here for dinner and had a lovely dining experience!  It is a very cozy/romantic spot with a wine bar vibe but with nice sized sharing plates.

As soon as we sat at the bar, the bartender apologized for being busy but soon helped us select a white wine to start.

The small bread basket was a wonderful little surprise.  Really enjoyed the artisanal breads and balsamic/olive oil to dip.

The bartender made 4 recommendations which we went with: sautéed spinach, eggplant croquettes, pasta with sweet sausage and a frisée salad with bacon and egg.  All were very nice dishes but my favorite was the pasta.  The cream sauce was cheesy but light and the sausage paired with peas gave a nice balance of salty and creamy.

Yum yum! I would definitely go back if I ever make it that far on east second!

  8. My group of 8 walked by here and decided to check it out for a quick dinner. We were all headed to an arcade close by for my best friend's birthday but we wanted to grab a bite beforehand. There is very little space, but there was a table that they got ready for us quickly. The atmosphere here is quiet, dimly lit, romantic, and cozy. It would be perfect for a super romantic date. I was worried the entire time that our group would end up being too loud for the place. I can't find the menu online, but I ordered the small plate that had mussels, shrimp, and calamari in tomato sauce. It was delicious, but I wish there was more than 2 pieces of shrimp in it. My friend got the oxtail, which I tried and liked. It was definitely overpriced, for each plate being at least $14-$15, but it's that kind of place. Service was friendly and quick. If it was bigger or had more tables, I'd definitely return.
