Absolutely love this restaurant!
They have a wide variety of options to chose from during their buffet, and everything is delicious! They have options starting from butter chicken/chicken tikka masala, chili chicken, goat curry to chana masala, aloo gobi and so much more! I've been to this spot numerous times and during my last visit I even saw some chicken fried rice in their buffet which was delicious! All the food tastes fresh, and the naan is refilled at the buffet area constantly, keeping them nice and soft. They also have a large salad and sauce area in the side which is amazing.
And if you do happen to stop by, try their gulab jamun! They offer both, kheer and gulab jamun in their buffet, but the gulab jamun is just out of the world! This place is a must go, definitely recommend it to everyone!
This place is so great that in a neighborhood with endless Indian food options, I never order delivery from anyplace else. Food is delicious and fresh (and they include fresh lettuce, tomato, onion and pepper in ever order, which I love), service is quick and courteous and it's pretty good bang for the buck.
I'm not a typically a fan of buffet places, since I prefer quality over quantity when it comes to my food. But I can appreciate the appeal of a buffet since you can try lots of food for a really reasonable price. This place stood out in my opinion due to the wonderful attentive service from our very patient waiter Vicky! We came here with my niece and nephew (ages 4, 6) and Vicky took the time to chat with them and was very friendly and accommodating to us the entire time. The place was fairly packed which worked out since they kept bringing out fresh food which was nice. I piled on a huge amount of food on my plate to taste a little of everything and what really stood out was the chicken makhani (butter chicken), it was so good that even though I was truly stuffed to the point where I looked like I was pregnant I had to go back for more! The mango lassi was really good and I also liked the rice pudding dessert. If you are looking for some very authentic Indian food then this might not be the place, or if you are expecting super spicy this is also not the place. I actually liked the fact that the food was not spicy, they have different sauces available if you want to make it spicier. The prices here are also very reasonable, around $15 per person and you can stuff yourself like a pig!
This is my go to spot in New York for Indian food. The buffet tastes fresh. Food is delicious and water is plentiful. They leave the water picture on table which for me is a plus. I wouldn't recommend taking a first date here but if you want to try several different foods that generally taste excellent this is the spot. Come hungry.. the chilly chicken was one of my favs. I usually don't care for tandoori chicken (dry) but this one was juicy..the price is reasonable for all you can eat.. I do have a complaint about bathrooms. Its just one small bathroom male and one for females, but everytime I go you end up waiting in line to use the men's room.. I mean this is an Indian buffet guys…put in another stall or employee bathroom… This last time I went, a waiter was in the bathroom doing who knows what. It seemed like he would go in there to hide. Our group waited around ten mins with four males having to use it. Waiter walks out one of us goes in for a min.. while walking over for next person, same waiter goes back in.. we wait tens.. knock on door and dude bangs on door angrily back.. like its his private room of something.. Strange..finally we stay in line and eventually get in.. but opens door and stays a minute while combing his hair.. it was just really weird.. Anyways..we have been here several times and the food has always been excellent.
Inside ambience is like a remnant of a former hotel ten years ago with pastel pink walls and stucco interior. It seemed to attract out-of-towners and those who were on the hunt for a deal. The reason I wound up here was because I felt like the lunch special was a great deal. I think it was $9.95 when I went a year ago. I found the variety pleasant. However, I found the taste alright. I enjoy the naan and the rice. I liked the daal and the paneer. Something was off about the flavor. I think it is made for American taste more than traditional Indian style spice and flavor? I also wish things were labeled with descriptions. I took items that I had no idea what they were, so I could try them. I guess I'm not a fan of the meat dishes, since there was little meat. I found it to be okay, not extraordinary. I just thought it was decent and was able to keep your belly nice and full for a reasonable rate.
This place is an absolute gem. There are many nights where I have no idea what to eat and I have literally exhausted every other option that I can think of. I drag myself over to the Indian Taj and hit the buffet until the food is coming out of my ears.
I mean, I knew buffet food wouldn't be the greatest but I didn't know it can be this BAD! I am a big fan of Indian chicken dishes but they disappointed me so much that I opted only for the vegetable dishes because they were deemed more edible by me at the time. When my friend and I came for the buffet time (which starts at 4PM, price is $11.95 per person) they were out of naan bread, and even though they could see that everyone wanted more, they took their sweet time bringing the naan out.
So regarding the food, they had white rice and vegetable fried rice. The vegetable fried rice was so salty that it was almost inedible to me, if it wasn't for that jug of water I don't know how I could have made through that dinner. The chicken curry was so bland and lacking any sorts of flavor, I could have been eating dog food and I wouldn't have known the difference. I didn't even dare try the chicken tandoori because it looks unappetizing. So instead I just ate the white rice and some vegetable curry dishes. We also ordered mango lassi…and it was also not very good. They obviously just used mango puree, but at least make it a bit more appetizing….it was so watered down it just tasted like water with mango flavoring. Overall, it was a very disappointing dinner and I would probably never come here again or recommend anyone to come here.
The day I discovered Indian Taj is the second best day of my life in 2016 (with the first being the day I went snorkeling for the first time and saw lobsters running away from under the rocks). I came with my boyfriend for the lunch buffet, and we enjoyed our food so much that we started talking again about moving to Indian after we both retire.
The lunch buffet is the next level, far better than every other Indian restaurant I have been to. There are many selections: Chicken Tikka Masala, Goat Curry, Baingan Bharta, Chana Masala, Aloo Paneer, and many more! My boyfriend and I were starving because we didn't have much sleep the night before and we were busy moving — we literally emptied our first plate within the first two minutes after we sat down. When I went to the buffet for the second time there was not enough naan left, so I didn't take any, but a few minutes later, a server came to our table with a large plate of naan and offered us more.
I also love that they leave a water jar on every table so you can refill your own glass without waiting for your server. In China, restaurants do this too, so I'm more used to pour my own water when I need it.
When I lived in Upstate New York, I used to eat Indian buffet twice a week; I think it's time to bring back this tradition now since I live within walking distance from Indian Taj. I'm going to become a regular here, hope they are ready 😛
