In an area dominated by fast food chains, Paradise is really good West Indian food for when you don't want fries with that. While there are tables it is predominately a take out place. The menu consist of traditional west Indian dishes (curry, jerk & stewed chicken, oxtail, goat etc,,) The prices are reasonable, $7-10 for regular size, $10-13 for large. The large is usually good for 2 people or 2 meals. I'm not west Indian so I can't comment on authenticity of the food but can tell you it taste real good. The fact that there is almost always a line means others dig it too. Actually that one of the few negatives about the place, the line. Expect to wait anywhere from 5 to 15 minutes before you get to order.
3.5 stars
My new favorite place for lunch whenever I come down to Brooklyn College. Portions are huge..I'm a big eater but there's no way I could finish a large size. Might not be enough for 2 meals if you're a pig like me, but definitely enough for 1.5. All of these types of meals come with your meat, rice and vegetables, and some sweet plantains. Selection is good, about 5 types of chicken (jerked, baked, curry, fried, stewed) as well as oxtail and goat curry, and some fish items too. Also, today I recently found out that they have a lunch size too, which is 2 bucks cheaper than the small size. Very sneaky, since they don't have it listed anywhere. I feel very in the know now. I have tried the jerked chicken and the stewed chicken, as well as the sweet plantains, and the vegetarian rice. All of them are excellent and extremely flavorful. The best option for yummy non-takeout food in the area.
The one bad point, as james f. has already noted, is that the wait can get slightly ridiculous as they don't seem to have a very effective way of taking orders and paying and all that. But the people are friendly and nice, so it's alright.
