I've been to this restaurant a few times now, and I've enjoyed it each time.
I've ordered the fried shrimp, and crab cake appetizers on two different occasions and they were both delicious. I enjoyed the crab cake more!!!
When dining at dinner time I've ordered the lobster roll Connecticut style, and would highly recommend it!!! My husband ordered the fish and chips and he enjoyed them and would likely order them again.
I also have had the lobster grilled cheese when I stopped in for lunch. It was surprisingly delicious!! The only item I ordered that I did not think was worth the money was the quinoa salad, which I didn't think was worth $6.
This restaurant is BYOB, (which is always a plus) and casual. They were also overly hospitable when I went in for lunch and had my 14 month old daughter with me. I'll definitely be returning in the near future.
So this place was ok, I really dig the atmosphere here.
I like how it doesn't smell like a fry basket.
For the most part the seafood tasted fresh and the breading was pretty good, not too heavy or greasy. I had ordered the Calamari for the table, again not too greasy and good portions. My cousin ordered the Clam Chowder and my other friend ordered the Lobster Bisque, surprisingly I liked the chowder better than the bisque which wasn't anything worth mentioning.
I ordered the Lobster Roll (Connecticut Style) which was alright, but was rather overcooked and I couldn't help but think it was a little too pricey, for what you get. Of course Lobster is more pricey than say…Shrimp but I just couldn't shake it. Then I had to order Fries instead of the meal automatically coming with it? They should check into this… We ordered a round of Shrimp for the table, which were pretty crispy and delicious. The crab cake sandwich was amongst the best we've had, EVER!
The service was pretty good up until the end, we had to get going and everyone who could take our checks disappeared (admittedly it got busy) my friend finally grabbed our checks with our credit cards and handed them to one of our servers at the front. She snapped that he couldn't walk away until the receipt was signed for, but he wasn't going to sign for me..calm down lady lol.
When we walked out we decided this place has decent food, but I don't see this place staying around too long. Once you try this place, you realize it's a one ( or two) and done.
If my review is confusing, let me explain it better, I think the food is just OK, but not enough to keep coming back.
Favorite place to eat fish, and I don't even like fish at all.
Plain and simple the only way I eat seafood is fried, and this place is by far my favorite place for fish and chips.
The clam chowder is also the best I've had though skip on the crackers, it's good without them mixed in and tell them to put the hot sauce on the side if you don't like it spicy.
Fish and chips come with a good portion of fish (always ask for vinegar to drizzle on them) and actual fried chips instead of American fries.
Order the coleslaw because it helps with washing the grease down from the all the fried foods you just ordered.
Service is excellent even with a full house but don't expect them to come by regularly on their own, you'll need to call them over if you want something.
Went for Dinner
Food – 2/5. The Lobster Roll is honestly not that special. I feel that the lobster itself is a great medium to soak up flavors but by itself it is kind of bland and that is what the Lobster Roll here tasted like; just steamed with very light seasoning. I understand the concept of lobster rolls and trying to make it look like there are plentiful amounts of lobster in there but the presentation results in a messy dining experience. The salad and the dressing is strictly a pre-made item and very unimpressive. I realize that its just a side item, but there is no love for the salad. Even one home-made dressing would improve it. The pickle and coleslaw are alright.
Service – 4/5. Friendly cashier! I had a silly moment and didn't realize my drink was a twist top but she opened it for me anyway.
Price – 3/5. It is pretty expensive and seems to not offer much in terms of specials. Lobster Roll isn't a common item for restaurants in the area though so it is not a bad price.
Parking – Street (Free)
Jack's lobster Shack has many options for the seafood lover, but they did not fully deliver. To be honest the service was kind of slow, we felt forgotten about at times and two of the people sitting at my table got up to go to the counter to pay for our bill.
Onto the food…the lobster bisque was disgusting. Forgive me, but it was. It tasted like the bisque base from a soup can with a few lumps of lobster meat thrown in the middle. There was not a lobster flavor at all in the soup. It was basically thick and way too buttery. I only had half of it and that was after i threw in the crackers in came with. My crab cake sandwhich was actually very good. It was worth the $12, but the chips were kinda of pointless to be honest. The crab cake was fried perfectly, tasted fresh and had a great texture. The fried shrimp was another gross dish. Tasted like frozen shrimp with a batter that was barely sticking to the shrimp, soggy batter to be honest. The calamari is a good app to choose from tho. I was surprised because pretty much all of the other apps we chose were not hits, however the calamari had a perfect texture and was not rubbery. The lobster grille cheese was not a hit either. It sounded great, but way too cheesy and not toasted enough. I cant speak for my friends dishes, but over all they were not that great. I was truly let down because ive had this place book marked for awhile. but sampling a little bit of this and that and my lobster bisque was such a let down, i dont think ill be back.
Excellent seafood! I have gone to this restaurant twice and I have not been disappointed – lobster bisque and New England clam chowder are amazing! So creamy with a generous amount of lobster and clams – crab cake sandwich is delicious especially since it is on a toasted English muffin! They also give you homemade potato chips with the sandwich – yum! Fried calamari, fish and chips, and lobster grilled cheese were also extremely tasty! But one of the best items this restaurant has to offer is their homemade tartar sauce – which is fantastic! I definitely recommend trying this restaurant out and they are open 7 days a week!
I had this place booked marked for a while and decided to give it a try today. We started off with the fried clam strips as an appetizer. It was delicious! The tartar dipping sauce was a bit too thick but the clams itself were great. I had the Connecticut style lobster roll (pretty generous amount too) and my wife had the shrimp tacos. Both were excellent! They were flavorful and not over cooked at all. The price was pretty reasonable too.
I will definitely be back to try more of what's on their menu.
This place is cute in a nautical sort of way. Service is prompt and the wait staff is nice. We ordered the lobster roll and the clam chowder. It was tasty enough to warrant another visit in the future. Prices are in line with other spots that serve lobster rolls in nyc. Best thing was the ice tea yum!
