When I used to live in Forest Hills, this was my roommates and I place to go. We would either order in or go at least once or twice a month to the restaurant, after I moved to the other side of Jewel Ave at the Flushing side I still will order from them even if I had to wait an hour and a half for delivery, just because Jade was that good.
There must've been a turn around with employees there because I didn't recognize some of them; I'm telling you I was here religiously from 2011-2014. I raved about this place to my boyfriend since we starting dating and we never had the chance to come until Sunday night.
The wait at 5 Burro's was too long so we came here, everything we ordered except for the Wok Charred Edamame and the Shrimp Tempura roll tasted a-ok. I was really disappointed at the mediocre food, the service was great the server was very attentive but the food wasn't how I remembered it and I felt just as bad that I made the boyfriend go through this pain with me after months of nagging him to come here. Even the drinks weren't how I remembered. The Pad Thai was too sweet and there were more vegetables than anything else and both drinks was also too sweet and it didn't pair well with the already sweet Pad Thai either, where was the not so sweet tangy sauce that it was made with?
I really hope that Sunday night was an off-night because it really hurts that one of my favorite restaurants in Forest Hills can go downhill like this
This is a hip restaurant, great date spot, but sometimes the music is a bit loud. It has a very nice Koi fish pond in the middle. The sushi is good, not the best but good and their Thai dishes are also good. Try their sushi pizza. I like their roll with the Toro, do not recall the name. Desserts are worth a try. I've been here approximately 5 times and will return.
This was an incredibly disappointing experience. I've been coming here on and off for several years and don't think I will be making a trip back…
Decor/Ambiance/Atmosphere – They really brought it up a few notches! Super trendy and artsy. Although the new seating is a bit uncomfortable and too industrial. The lighting is nice and everything would look nice in pictures if you're here with friends
Food – I don't know what happened to the pad thai, it used to be so good. Now it just tastes too sweet. The calcutta chicken was good, but the manchurian/cauliflower was a huge let-down (too bland). The re-vamp in the menu makes it too basic and just not tasty like it used to be.
Service – Absolutely horrendous! Although we were seated promptly and the Thai iced tea and beer was given to us within a few minutes, my friend had to ask twice about her green tea order. We ordered appetizers and entrees altogether. We were even happy to receive the appetizer (steamed edamame), but our entrees took more than 30 minutes to show up. We saw people who came 20-30 minutes after us receive their dishes and dine and leave. We were told repeatedly that our "entrees were on the way." But it was an incredibly frustrating experience to not have the attentiveness we needed. I can tell our waiter was tired and stressed and he apologized multiple times (he was very nice), but honestly there needs to be better organization/management or more staffing or shuffling on their end to make sure we get things in a timely manner.
Come here if you want some nice cocktails, pictures, and a good atmosphere. Prices are reasonable but don't expect to be floored by wonderful service or food.
Although I liked Jade Eatery & Lounge's posh ambiance (and would be party-/date-appropriate), the deal-breaker here was the food. My dish (garlic chicken) cost ~$16 and tasted just as good as I'd get at a Chinese takeout restaurant at half the price. None of our dishes were bad, but we were all underwhelmed and disappointed that the food didn't live up to the place's ambiance.
Our server was attentive throughout, but perhaps a bit too much so because he was slightly too insistent on up-selling us the typical restaurant fare. (Minor observation: he didn't fill up our glasses of water all the way, which resulted in him at one point filling up our glasses, taking our orders, and then before he left immediately refilling them.)
Ideally I'd like to give this place two and a half stars. But since that isn't an option and at the end of the day no one in my party of three would want to return here due to our "Meh. I've experienced better" assessments, I'm rounding down to two. I completely agree with another Yelper who wrote, "You pay for the place, not the food."
Why did I have this place bookmarked when I've been here numerous times? Also why am I just now writing a review.
I digress.
Jade Eatery is an amazing Asian inspired restaurant. Perfect for date night, getting up with the girls or if you're looking to impress a potential client. Ambiance is everything to me and Jade has that "IT" factor. A certain je ne sais quoi that matches the entrees and drinks. Over the years Jade gets better like fine aged wine or bourbon.
I've tried the Kani salad. I wasn't a fan of it. It's edible just not the best that I've had. What I recommend as a starter would be the Steamed Edamame, Jade Wings, Lollipop Chicken, Jade Popcorn Chicken, Crispy Calamari, also the Sweet & Crispy Shrimp. Their Sushi and Speciality Rolls are delicious but rather on the small side for the price.
The entrees I recommend are the Calcutta Chicken, Sesame Chicken, Mongolian Beef, General Tso's Chicken, Crispy Thai Beef, Basil Chicken, Beef with Broccoli, Thai Basil Fried Rice, Wok-Charred Broccoli, also the Chicken and Broccoli.
Their koi pond is absolutely beautiful. Even their bathrooms have a flare about them. This is Forest Hills' hidden gem.
My husband and I really like it here. We're both vegan and always get the same thing (there aren't many options for us) but we're happy nonetheless. Service is always good and the ambiance is nice. Even on nights that are busy and we've made reservations, it really isn't necessary. It's a big space so I've never seen it completely full. The thing that's odd to me is that they have a DJ. Every night. No matter when you're here, while you're dining. I mean, it doesn't have a club vibe, it's definitely a restaurant but it always makes us wonder why it's necessary. There's a nice Koi pond in the center which is a great distraction for the kids (and adults) and it's really well maintained. Our only complaint is that the benches and chairs are really uncomfortable. I've even done delivery from here however dining in is a much better experience.
Update: OK so I know I said on my previous review that I would never return here. I did return to Jade a little over a week ago for a friends birthday that she chose Jade.
I will say that I was presently surprised that Jade has now turned back into the fun atmosphere and great food that I remember from years ago. I used to be a regular at Jade at least three times a month for years and just had one bad experience in 2014 that stop me from going.
Everything went extremely smoothly from our drink orders, bottle service and the food. Our appetizers tasted great and so did our entrées.
Our server was great I wish I could remember her name but all I can remember from our conversation she was a film student at the New York film Academy. I will be honest her exemplary customer service is what made for a great dining experience and for me to return on another occasion to Jade.
Finally after so many years in forest hills we finally ate here!
Jades interior is gorgeous and the lighting sets the mood for a nice Romantic night out but the music is super loud which makes it nearly impossible to have a conversation. I wouldn't recommend this for a first or second date unless you want to scream across the table at them all night.
As for the food. The menu is mostly Asian fusion with things like sushi burritos, sushi pizza, speciality rolls and then a small assortment of chicken and meat dishes. A bit strange but I love sushi "pizza" from other places so we ordered that, spicy tuna poppers which was basically sticky rice with spicy tuna and two special rolls.
The portions are small and honestly everything we ordered lacked seasoning and was underwhelming. The sushi pizza tasted bland and the rolls were nothing memorable. The best thing was probably the spicy tuna poppers but even those were really tiny, not spicy at all and the sticky rice wasn't crisp.
I most likely won't be back because there are much better dinner options in the neighborhood.
