“A note to all ye supposed spice cravers: I am Indian and while I can eat my share of spicy food, the medium hot level here is too much for me.”

This was recommended to us by our friends. It is one of the spiciest thai in NYC. We asked for medium spicy and the spice level was just perfect. Make sure you know about the spice level when you order any dish over here.A medium level here is quite spicy.
Everything, we ordered was good and spicy. My favorite was the Crab fried rice.
The ambiance and service was OK. Its not a huge place and usually it takes a while to get a table. But the wait is worth it !
I have now been to Jaiya twice and both times I have left feeling completely underwhelmed. With some many amazing Thai places in the city, I don't know why I keep coming back here (I realize now it's definitely because my friend works right around the corner and is a lazy mofo, so really, I blame him), but I should probably really stop. There's honestly nothing THAT terrible about this place (hence the 3 stars), but the food just isn't that great or worth the $$. It's mediocre at best.
More often than not, I order the Pad See Ew when I'm at a Thai restaurant, so I like to think I know when I'm having some dank Pad See Ew and when I'm not. And unfortunately, my Pad See Ew at Jaiya has just never been that great. The noodles were pretty bland and the imitation duck I got didn't seem seasoned at all too. When you have to dump spoonful upon spoonful of chili garlic sauce just to give your dish some flavor, you know something isn't right.
So take my word for it and bring your $$ to one of the many other delicious Thai places in the city the next time you're craving some Pad See Ew.
For the last several years I have gotten delivery from here almost every Friday night. But now unfortunately, that MUST stop. The last food delivery I got from here two weeks ago, almost put me in the Emergency Room.
I ordered my usual, Jungle Curry – HOT, with fried tofu, with rice. Almost at the end of the meal, just getting the last from the bottom of the Quart delivery container, and out comes something strange. Being a vegetarian I thought it looked like a piece of Fish Skin …. I wish! It was a pus filled Band-Aid. So vile and disgusting.
I immediately called the restaurant, and they said they would replace my food, they did. And give a stern taIk to the chef… I was kind of expecting a little more concern. Maybe a refund or credit! No chance … nope. They wanted their Band-Air back though, nope … I sent them the photo instead, I have the band-aid if it is needed for anything.
I have emailed them a few times as I wait for various test results to come back. No response.
So now I feel I must share the truth with anyone considering ever eating from Jaiya again.
Years back someone told me this was the best Thai place. Glad I visited for lunch because lunch specials are under $10, but dinner menu is very expensive.
Portion sizes: TINY. Take out papaya salad app was 2 forkfuls and below average. Tom yum soup was about 4 spoonfuls and 4 huge bay leaves. Who leaves whole bay leaves in soup?
Red curry was average. Good flavor to the curry sauce, tough chicken/not good quality.
Basil chicken (says their most popular dish) had a flavorful sauce, but too much soy sauce/salt flavor. Again, chicken tough/bad quality.
Real disappointment.
I used to go here when I lived in the neighborhood. I remember the incredible spicy tom yum soup.
I went back this summer since I work in the area now. I kept it simple and ordered seafood fried rice and it was great. It included a small appetizer. I think I ordered a salad.
Food and service was good. I'd go back and try something spicy next time.
Came here on a Saturday evening with a couple of friends. Let me just preface this review and say that I LOVE Thai food. If I were to choose just one type of cuisine to eat for the rest of my life, it would be Thai cuisine.
Jaiya however, would not be the restaurant I would choose to eat at when eating Thai food (for the rest of my life). I got the Drunken noodles after reading some good Yelp reviews about it but it was a bit too sour for my liking. The dish was at the perfect level of spicy (I asked for mild), but the sour taste was too strong for me to enjoy the dish.
My friends got The Jungle – one got it with tofu, and the other, with chicken. I didn't try their dishes, but the friend who got the chicken option ended up only eating about half of her dish saying the chicken seemed a bit undercooked while the friend with the tofu ate most of his dish.
The ambience is lovely, and the bar seating is nice as well. Service is friendly but if you go on a Saturday evening like we did, you might receive frequent hints to leave (as we did). Meh.
Jaiya is one of my favorite places for a lunch special in the Kips Bay area. Their dishes have so much flavor, and I have yet to go wrong. Their curries and noodle dishes are both excellent. Be warned: this place is known for how spicy they make their dishes. A medium level here is quite spicy.
LOVED the food!! We made sure to order "medium spicy" for everything since this place can be a little heavy handed on the spice. We were a group which is quite pro-spicy food and medium spicy satisfied us well.
We ordered the tom yum soup, a creamy coconutty chicken soup. I loved the tom yum although the coconut based chicken soup was not bad either.
For appetizers we got the shrimp with beans which I wasn't a big fan of and the drunken noodles which were amazing!
For the main course we got the Jaya Special Fish on the bone which was the star dish of the night!Along with that we got the shrimp fried rice and thai basil chicken both of which were really nice. We also got the green thai curry with chicken which I didn't like at all.
Will definitely be back and do a repeat of the Jaya Special Thai Fish.
