  1. Came here for a friend's birthday. We didn't rent a room but sat out in the bar area. It was great! We had around 20 people, and everyone had fun. Songs are $3 for 2, and service was friendly and quick. There is also a Japanese restaurant underneath the Karaoke area. I didn't try the food, but looked at the menu, and would love to come back for the authentic Japanese food offered. I would recommend if you are a karaoke fan! I'll be back soon to try some food.

  2. we came here for a birthday party this past weekend. I'm still loyal to the Duet franchise when it comes to private karaoke party rooms, but am always open to exploring other options.

what's interesting about this place is the option for unlimited food (sushi, fries, wings, edamame, some other appetizers) and unlimited drinks. we were there for a good 4 hours or so, and I think the package deal is for 2 hours, so our bill was preeeeeetty high – 85/head. to be fair, when we go to Duet, one of my friends always has a "one free hour" voucher which knocks the price down to 35/head and I end up spending probably another 30 on drinks, so it's not THAT bad in contrast (especially since food was there and the alcohol was free-flowing). also, I think some people may have left before we got the final bill.

the song book is quite exhaustive, with a wide variety of genres represented. the remote was a little finicky at first, but the staff fixed it for us. our room was clean, air conditioned, and spacious, and the sound quality was great.

I don't know how many private rooms they have here – there was ours, and another room adjacent to us, and we shared a unisex bathroom.

overall, I had a good time and would consider a return to Japas 27. I think the other patrons can do without hearing my horrendous vocals, but that's their cross to bear!

  3. Great karaoke spot ! We came in with a bunch of people on a Saturday afternoon and they accommodated us in the large room. Good service and inexpensive – great combination. Also had some of the sushi rolls and they were yummy and cheap. We had a great time!!

  4. I went to my first group karaoke event here. It was such a good time.
We reserved a room with drinks and a big appetizer plate for about $27 per person. And we were in the room for about 2 hours. Weekend prices are a little higher.
The service staff was great, always made sure we had full glasses. And didn't rush us out just because our time had expired. I can't wait to go back there again

  5. It's old, rusty, dive bar type of Japanese hang out.

There are obviously ridiculous amount of karaoke options in Manhattan including something as simple as Sing Sing or Duet 35. Or you can go all out in K-town with bottle services and elaborately decorated private rooms.

Bad sound system, one guy who hogs the mic all night (apparently a regular), terrible food options and $1 per song? What? What? Yeah I am not used to that kind of karaoke. I'd rather pay more and have a better experience else where.

  6. almost accidentally mixed up this review with another place before I realized that this is the classic Japas 27 i'm reviewing, not the other crappy place I'm thinking of (which I will review soon after). the easiest way to remember Japas 27 is to keep in mind that there's an "East" Japanese restaurant below. the reason to keep that restaurant in mind is because….

you can get some decent food at Japas 27 (e.g. california rolls) since the food comes from East. therefore, Japas 27 is the best when you have a decent amount of people in your party because they have some nice party platters. I like the roll platter the best but there's another platter that is full of fried stuff like chicken and fries. check the website for the party packages. should be around $35-40/person for two hours if I remember correctly.

anyway, food aside, the sound quality is okay (not the best, not the worst) but I wish there were some newer English songs. still, I definitely recommend Japas 27 for big parties.

  7. I've been coming here for about 3-4 years but I thought it's the same place as the restaurant downstairs but now realized it has its own review section. Downstairs restaurant is called East. My husband used to come here often with his daughter and then he introduced this place to me. We came here with my step-daughter a few times to sing and enjoy dinners. The last time we were here I took my friend who's never went to karaoke before. We usually sit at an open lounge, not in a private room, so that we can also enjoy other people's singing sensations. Many times there's always the kind of people who could sing, unlike me. The last time we went, there's a drunken man singing. What a coincidence because my friend had never been to a karaoke and first time she encountered a good singer who was so drunk! So funny! Hubby said that's probably a welcome greeting for my friend LOL. There's a lot of variety of Japanese food to enjoy. Mostly appetizers and small dishes. You won't be disappointed with the food, plus, you get to entertain yourself a bit. I've tried most of the dishes on the menu and haven't finished trying all the songs from the book, I'll get there someday. There's 2-3 mics to use. A lot of songs that I know since the 70s, 80s and 90s. Two big TVs in this open lounge. Karaoke for me is really just a place to enjoy singing without having to be judged, so…take it away, do your favorite routine here. You'll all set! Food wise? Don't let me start with this. It will be non-stop review of the century. Like I said it's a lot of food from the menu, pick what you need, choose what you like. We've had mentaiko spaghetti, clams, shumai, fish flakes, taco wasabi, tobico wasabi, this and that wasabi. But rest assured that I cleaned the plates. They even have spicy edamame on the menu. At this open space lounge, you pay $1.5 for one song. Definitely good for 2-3 small groups or one big group. Dancing? Probably very little space for that in case you need to move during your singing routine. Be sober!

  8. This place is great for cheap karaoke and drinks Monday- Thursday. They have a greats deals that include the private room and unlimited drinks for $22 -25 per person per hour and the food wasn't badly priced either. It's not top shelf or Master Chef but it gets the job done. There was no wait for the room and simply make use of your time because it goes by quick, especially if you having fun.

The staff was nice when you saw them, basically once you get your room they don't bother you until your time is up and its time to pay up!
