solid Indian food. it's in a tiny strip mall on Union Turnpike, with free parking.
the decor is swank, almost lounge-like. it has a bit of an upscale vibe to it, and I imagine the private parties here are fun.
samosas are great – just a bit spicy, and not soggy-fried but crispy-fried. I tried the goat palak, which was tender, spicy, and filling, and was very satisfied. Caroline's tandoori salmon was actually pretty good too, though this was actually the first time I've had salmon cooked tandoori style.
prices are alright (you get a fair amount and the quality is pretty good), and while the service is friendly they can be a bit clingy. I think every five minutes we were asked if we needed anything else, and I lost track of how many times they kept asking us if we wanted naan.
interested in checking out their lunch buffet. it's off the beaten path for us, but we were coming back from a day trip out on Lawn Guy Land and needed a good meal.
My first taste of authentic Indian cuisine was during international food day when software developers from India brought homemade food. One food item that stood out was the chicken tikka masala and I couldn't get enough of it.
After dining at a couple of Indian restaurants, I would have to say that JassiS is going to be one of our favorite restaurants.
The place is spacious which gives the restaurant a false impression that there are no diners. The decor also gives an impression that you're dining in a nightclub with lights and Indian music playing.
As for the food we ordered, they were very good, the portions were generous and served in a decorated gourmet style. The chicken tikka masala was by far the best I've tasted. The lamb and mushroom order was my son's favorite by far. The aloo gobi (califlower and potatos) was also good. All served with Indian rice and free dessert.
The prices were very reasonable compare to other Indian places.
I suggest not to eat too much of the free appetizers. We also ordered the Punjabi Chole Poori (deep fried bread with chick peas) and got full eating it. This results to bringing home a doggy bag.
I have ordered from Jassis countless times. The food is usually delivered by the owner which is nice.
As for the food, the chicken tikka masala is top notch, as are the saag paneer (spinach w cheese) and garlic naan. We also love the vegetable pakoras to start.
Overall, we love Jassis and are glad that a great Indian place like this exists!
I've never had Indian food before, so I wasn't sure what to get. I figured I'd surprise myself and see what the chicken jalfrezi tasted like since it didn't sound too spicy and it was quite delicious. The chicken pieces were pretty big and very tender. It smelled really spicy at first, but thankfully it wasn't. It reminded me of a mix between halal cart food and mild curry. The owner was very nice to allow me to place an order for delivery despite my workplace being out of the area.
Best Indian food in Long Island. I am hooked on their lunch buffet. Been back to NY three times in the last couple of months and have had their awesome food 5 times. The buffet has been top notch and different different each time – a good sign- Chicken Tikka Masala was scrumptious, goat Curry very very good with the meat coming off the bone. Good variety of vegetable dishes – lentils, chick peas, spinach and eggplant potato. Appetizer( chaat) was fresh and the sauces awesome. The service is great- their staff is happy, very attentive and did not once rush me as other restaurants do as the closing time for the buffet approaches. They have the best Rotis( bread) which are served so hot and tasty. Side note which is important to me – their restroom is the cleanest I have seen in any restroom in the city, Long Island or in Europe. There is a parking lot just East of this restaurant and also street parking just West and North of Jassi's. Great, consistent experience.
Jassis just recently opened. It used to be several other Indian Restaurants. But it seems they purchased the space next door and really opened up the place. The inside is beautiful and clean. There were a few flies around the food but that's because all the doors were wide open, but I liked the fact it was open. It was nice and breezy.
The Manager was very kind and offered us Garlic Naan, we assume this is not part of the $9.99 lunch buffet. They had a great spread and TWO desserts. All the Generic dishes were there, the Salad, Samosas, Tandoori Chicken, Chicken Tikka Masala, Paneer, Rice, etc. It was a nice spread. Everything was delicious but it didn't have that authentic taste. And a big negative was afterwards, everyone was extremely thirsty…. MSG? I would still come cause it's close to work but Santoor Grill still outranks this by a mile.
A solid find for decent Indian food. They deliver which is great (albeit a little on the slow side), but the masala and tandoori is great. The garlic naan is decent and the buffet (if you decide to stay in) is a good value.
The delivery took over an hour and a half. Horrible wait time. HOWEVER the food was very good. I'm not a fan of indian food but I would definitely eat here again.
