Jean Danet Pastry

“I might also add that they sell other delicious looking pastry confections that I must try, as well as brick oven pizza.”

“I tend to lean towards their cheesecake which is far better than Juniors, but I've grown a liking to their cannoli's and maple walnut slices.”

“After I was done, I picked from amongst the desserts they have in the display to take home and eat there.”

  1. Have been here several times already.  First for a breakfast treat and coffee, a second time for pizza… Pizza, you ask?  Why yes, didn't you notice the oven back there?  They fire up personal pan pizzas to your liking, and after having checked out the menu, the choices are dizzying… but don't let that intimidate you.  Choose, sit down, and wait.  Oh, they also carry house wine too amongst other bottled beers… so enjoy.  Once the pizza comes out, its sliced up and served on the pan along with a pizza server/utensil.  Piping hot and tasty, it's definitely a cut above the average thin crust served at regular pizzeria joints in the neighborhood.  For about $10, it's quite good, filling, and since it's thin-crust, you can finish it entirely without bothering with leftovers.

After I was done, I picked from amongst the desserts they have in the display to take home and eat there.  Oh, it was heaven.  Don't forget to tip something, if you decide to eat-in.

  2. Jean Danet is on the way to the bf's house from the MTA so I usually pop in for a pastry or two.  Everything looks nice in the display case every time I go, but I never remember that I don't really like any of it.

There's too much cream in everything and not in a good way.  The strawberries are covered in the syrupy goop.  When I last stopped by, the counter girl didn't know what anything was.

I do however, want to try their pizzas.

  3. Well I have been hiding out in Bay Ridge at what I consider the best little secret South of Manhattan. I love the pizza here, yes the cookies are delicious and the Blueberry Cobbler is so good. But the pizza is so wonderful.

Yes PIZZA, with so many sub-par pizza joints near by this place offers a personal pie for about $10.00 which is equivalent to 4 slices. Its made fresh and the crust is so perfectly thin. Amazing that they offer so many types of pies with different ingredients.

Ooooohh don't order the Cal-zone with Ham, I mean the thing is huge. The only problem is that either the moisture from the cheese or ham creates a pool inside the cal-zone. Just not prepared correctly.

If not for this problem I would be given the place 5 stars, staff is always friendly and kind.

  4. Yes, I have soft spot for bakeries.
Yes, I manage to find one anywhere I go.
Yes, Jean Danet's shop is one of the best!
Not only it filled with delicious, yummy pastries, cakes and cookies, it also serves very good coffee, brick-oven pizza and beer.
What else can you wish for in one place?
    Yes, it is GOOD!

  5. Definitely a little bakery catering to your sweet tooth. There are multiple rows of Italian style cookies, huge self portions of cakes and cream puffs and even larger whole pies and quiche. There isn't anything savory here unless you want pizza. I didn't get a chance to try the pizza so I'll leave that for another day and review.

There are a few tables against the wall that allow you to sit and eat said baked goods there. Most people either buy some cookies or go for a whole pie or quiche. I wanted something savory and not sweet and that was a hard find without ordering a pie sized quiche but I was able to get a crossaint and it was good.

They have a selection of celestial teas and brew their own coffee. Not a bad spot but won't accommodate a lot of people.

  6. My friend ordered a strawberry shortcake here for a friend's engagement. Service was great and the cake I must say was amazing. It was barely sweet, in a good way. The sponge cake used was very smooth and fresher. The strawberries were deciduous too. Definitely coming back and recommending this place to everyone to try!

  7. I've tried Jean Danet pastries for a couple months.
There's nothing special about their cookies.
Their cakes look dry and of course taste dry.
I'd say that the cheesecake is probably the best thing they got.  But even the cheesecake is nothing special.

Sorry Jean, but your pastries taste..well..BORING.

  8. I like this bakery. I eat the cookies here if I walk by. Haven't had anything else but cookies. Some of the girl that work the counter are cute. If your walking down 5 ave, buy some cookies. You won't regret it.
