I went the stand at Madison Square Garden Mad Eats. The taco and the tamale were both awesome – very tasty. My friend had the pork donut thing which she was disappointed by and didn't finish – nice idea but just didn't quite work. Stick with the other stuff though and you'll be happy!
I visited the Jicama stand at Penn Plates and went with the pork doughnut slider because how can you not? It's perhaps not the best representation of Jicama given that the rest of their food is meant to be a light, healthy bite of California, but too bad because I'm not not ordering a pork doughnut slider.
Unfortunately, it was just OK. More below.
The good:
-Generous portion of pork -Light, fluffy doughnuts -The sweet and savory combination of the doughnut and the pork was playful and enjoyable
The bad:
-It was very hard to eat and extremely messy -The juice from the pork was absorbed by the bottom doughnut (bun) which caused it to almost completely disintegrate, making the sandwich fall apart immediately -The pork wasn't great (a little dry, a little bland)
In the end I partly ordered the pork doughnut slider for the novelty factor, and this creative, calorie-packed behemoth of a sandwich certainly succeeded in that regard. It wasn't amazing, but I did enjoy it and was left quite full. Depending on what other food stands are around, I might or might not recommend you give this creation a try.
Outdoor pop-up shop in Herald Square. Super crowded as expected but we got lucky with no lines at their stand. I got 2 carnitas tacos. Delicious but so tiny – what's up with these miniature tacos made for a baby and not for a greedy ass adult like myself. I almost got another order but my self control kicked in.
Strong sangria and great service.
Definitely checking this place out again when it's back.
Pretty incredible tacos! I got two chicken and one pork with all the fixins and it was amazing. A bit messy due to the sauce, but great nonetheless.
Additionally, the service was incredible. Everyone was incredibly friendly and dry helpful. I would highly recommend this place if you're looking for great food and a friendly vibe!
This is one of the food stands at Urbanspace Broadway, and I was attracted purely by the smell of taco and hence decided to give a try. Unfortunately they were running out of veggie taco so had to settle down with chicken one. They provided deals when purchasing multiple, so very good for share among friends. Also can add the avocado topping with extra half a dollar. Everything was perfect except for the bread, which was dry and flavorless. Probably these days I have been eating around so really got the opportunity to compare bread from different places. At least it was a good try.
Jicama at Broadway Bites is great. People are super friendly and the food is great. I had their mango agua fresca with white wine. Refreshing and a nice post work buzz. Tried the Tlacayo Mexican pizza which was delicious but hard to eat without a table. Also tried the pork doughnut slider which is one of the best things I have ever eaten. Definitely coming back here again.
