Solid ramen, great portion size.
We stopped by for lunch on a weekend, and we secured a seat outside (would recommend going for an indoor seat given the unevenness of the ground). We ordered ramen and happy hour drinks, the latter of which had healthy pours and were great value for happy hour. The ramen itself was quite good; I had the tonkotsu broth, which was creamy and not too salty, while the noodles were tasty and not too soft. Would definitely come back for another meal and maybe try the other dishes.
I had an altogether very good experience at Jin Ramen. I went with a few friends on a Friday night and we were seated after about 25 minutes. They took us to a nice table in this busy, pretty, tiny establishment.
To start, we got the pork buns and the spinach salad. I know everyone is obsessed with the pork buns, but I thought that they were a bit bland. Could use more spices and sauce. However, I was really impressed with the spinach salad. It was so flavorful – sweet and soy-y. It tasted very fresh and good.
For our main courses, my friends got the vegetarian miso ramen and the tuna soba. I got the spicy tonkatusu ramen. My friends dishes were great – the vegetarian miso had amazing flavor and the soba were super refreshing – but I reallyyyy didn't like my ramen. I can't pinpoint it…I'm usually a pretty big fan of tonkatusu ramen. Something just tasted wrong…like a very fatty fish that had also been sitting out for too long and had gone a little rotten. I didn't like it to the extent that my friends convinced me to call over our waiter and ask for a new dish. I'm not one to do something like that, usually. However, our waiter was pretty nice about it. He asked why I didn't like it and was clearly a little irritated, but he had no hesitation in bringing me a new dish. I ended up getting the chicken nanban soba and it was AMAZING. They give you a huge portion and the fried chicken is so sweet and savory and delicious. I ended up being very happy with my meal once I switched.
There was a street Flea Market Fair going on and it was closing but company wanted ramen and there was Jin Ramen. It's a full house with a short line people trying to get a table. In that comment, the wait time is not that long. Dining atmosphere compliments a modern Asian restaurant decor. On the wall hangs paintings of I guess what I take as where the ramen comes from, like chef making ramen.
The question of is it good ramen. Company says yes and it looked good in the big bowls with all the accompanied around the ramen.
I had the Sake Ikura Salmon on Soba noodles. Basic, okay noodles, okay texture, needed sauce and mix in the vegetables to make it work, yeah a little soy and sauce. All fresh! I love Ikura, I have had bad Ikura. Jin Ramen serves fresh and properly tasting Ikura. The raw salmon goes the same, fresh, tasted perfect and everything visually appealing. Not a single bad speckle or smell. All so fresh and yummy.
The could certainly improve on their Gyoza dumplings. Tasted good but average and looked stale. I can make better!
Came here for dinner the other night
Pros:
– The egg in the shio ramen was amazing, didn't really like the broth itself but the egg and pork made the dish great!
Cons:
– The chicken gyoza was basically filled with garlic to the brim – it would've been okay if the garlic was minced more but there were large chunks of garlic so the dish became a garlic gyoza instead but it was nicely fried!
– Small tidy place – the tables were a bit crammed together, for instance I had to wait for the guy at the adjacent table to lower his arm in order to get into my seat (wasn't pleasant)
– Our waiter kept on coming around and asking if we are done with our food – I was but my friend wasn't so he felt rushed and I even told her to please give my friend some more time to finish his food since I am a quick eater (the table besides us who came in before us left after us -___-)
despicable service.SERVER WAS A SHORT GIRL WITH BLOND HAIR IN A PONY TAIL. AVOID HER. SHE IS SLOW AND GETS ORDERS WRONG. ASK TO SWITCH AWAY FROM HER TABLE. INCOMPETENCE. ordered 2 cold soba and a chicken karage appetizer. chicken came out. it was ok. small pieces of fried chicken. for $8. nothing special at a new York price. then the ramens started coming out…all around us. ppl who we sat down next to at the same time got their noodles. but not ours. tables that came after us. like 10 minutes after us got their food. and more came out….all around us. tables outside…which were empty when we got in had their food. and it was the SAME FOOD WE HAD ORDERED. no explanation, no apology. then our noodles came out. wrong ORDER. when we asked what had happened server said it was different noodles. they were the SAME as what we had ordered. at least tried to. walked out. again, no apology, no explanation from the restaurant.
I don't expect the world when I dine out. I expect food to come out when it does (time ranges for different reaturants), in the order it was ordered in. if something gets mixed up, an explanation is fine. it's when there is no explanation and no apology that it becomes unacceptable. this place is unacceptable.
I've been here before, service is always slow, food is mediocre, basically good enough to eat. if you want actually good food, ippudo and many many many other places are way better. only came.cause it was close by and we were hungry. not making that mistake again.
INCOMPETENT.
When I first got there, I thought I am in the wrong place! The decor and layout of the store is not very ramen-y. The place looks more like a romantic/cozy French restaurant than a ramen spot!
My friend ordered the shio with less salt. She said it was ok. I ordered their popular Kakuni, which is filipino style braised pork belly. OMG SO YUM! i would recommend getting their specialty ramen because you can't get them anywhere else. I liked the broth as it is not overwhelming but flavorful enough. The pork belly is heavenly. I loved every part of it.
Was harder than it looked to find a non-crowded place Saturday night in the neighborhood. Jin Ramen not only had seating, but outside as well. Settled in with a friendly waitress who went through the menu with us.
To start, we ordered the Shishito Peppers ($7) – a handful of roasted peppers topped with salt and hearty crumbs. Some peppers were hot while others weren't, making a nice game of Russian Roulette while we waited for the main course. Despite the warm weather, had to get the Kakuni Ramen ($15) – a full-flavored broth smothering pork belly, hand made noodles, eggs, and veggies. The broth I felt was a little grainy and had a strong fish taste (they use fish based oils I believe). This was also true of the rice bowls for some reason.
The service was helpful and they give you big portions. I don't like the fish base they use for almost all their main dishes, it overpowers a lot of the flavor. Would come back to try some pork buns.
This was a great place to eat. Vibe was fun and modern. It was packed! Easy choices, not cluttered menu. Servers were nice, friendly, and quick. Definitely will be coming back. I got the spicy tonkotsu which was great and I got it less salty which made it perfect! It was the perfect umami flavor for me and the most important part was it actually turned out to be spicy! I've noticed that most places say spicy and I can barely find it, so I'm so glad this was hot!
Prices ranged from $13-15/bowl. It was quite a tiny bowl in my opinion and the pork belly was minimal. Most places give 3 slices and they have 2 small slices. But they were so tender!! Overall, I enjoyed my meal and will be back to try the others one day.
