I have driven by JJ plenty of times and always made a mental note to stop there one day and try it out. I had the opportunity on a recent Friday afternoon to stop in.
It's a little place with a few tables, and I went to the counter and picked up a menu to place an order. There was a gentleman seated at the far table who encouraged me to go look at the counter where they had all the food out and I could take a look (I didn't even notice the glass case or the man when I walked in, I was on a mission!). I'm assuming he was the owner because he mentioned that he hadn't seen me there before and I let him know this was my first time.
Anyway, back to the food. It all looked so good, they had pernil, oxtail, beef stew, roasted chicken, yucca and a plethora of other things that I could not remember. I decided to have pernil over white rice with red beans and yucca. they also had a mixed rice that I thought was moro but the girl told me it was some kind of seafood rice. Looked delish, I'll have to try it the next time.
So this girl proceeds to just pile on the food in this styrofoam container. Holy crap this was easily going to feed me 2-3 times! Very reasonable too, only came to $9. Took it home and tore into it once I got into my kitchen. The pernil was really flavorful and not at all dry. I happened to get a piece of the crispy skin and it was heaven. I was really happy with the food at JJ and I will definitely be eating here again. They also deliver!!
