Modern and trendy looking restaurant. Friendly staff and there was no wait on a saturday night.
Ordered the mansour plate and a spicy rice cake dish forgot name. The mansour plate was pretty good. It is almost like a sampler plate since they got everything. They got the kim chi fried rice, pork katsu, hamburger meat, and some mash potatoes. Everything was flavorful and tasty. Wasn't a real fan of the rice cakes. The first few bites were good. Comes with a little punch but it got a little too spicy for me. Would be a good dish to eat in the winter, definitely warms you up.
Overall, it is a nice korean fusion restaurant. Prices were reasonable and service was friendly and fast. Decor was unique and nice.
3.5/5
Dinner was unfortunately not as great as the first time for me and some of my friends who came here the second time around.
Kimchi Cheese Fried Rice-
Meh… it was okay. The whole dish was barely any spicy at all and the star attraction was a puddle of cheese and corn that surrounds the fried rice. Could barely taste the kimchi.
Mentaiko Cream Udon-
This dish was bland for my friend. She didn't really like it and had trouble finishing it. The udon was heavily drenched in Mentaiko cream. Not sure if this was in the cream, but there was a strong Parmesan cheese taste(too much).
Seafood Pasta(no shrimp)-
My friend's second time here, he really liked this dish. It was super flavorful. The hot pepper paste and noodles reminded me of Tteokbokki, a popular Korean rice cake snack/dish.
Service was satisfactory as usual. The place is less dimmer and more brighter now. JOAH is still a solid local spot to check out. I just suggest that you order items that come in a set, like the Mansour Plate.
Came here with pretty high expectations with the hype and all, but left sort of disappointed. Great staff and service. I also loved the interior, super cute and spacious.
As for the food, it fell a little off my expectations. So what my friend and I tried were the Mansour Plate and the Mentaiko Cream Udon. The Mansour Plate was not bad, but tbh not good enough that I would spend around $25 for. As for the Mentaiko Cream Udon, as another Yelper said it was drenched in the cream to the point that I didn't want to try to finish it anymore. Also the noodles were a little undercooked. I also tried the Pink Lady cocktail ($8) and it was okay.
Overall I hope I just came on an off day or maybe I need to try their other items that may be better, but as for now I will hold back coming again.
What a cute, cozy place! It looks like a typical cafe, but they serve some beautiful-looking food and drinks.
Right away, I knew this was going to be a good experience. We were seated immediately by our super attentive, friendly host/server. She got us started with ice cold water and handed us our menus. Their drink and food menus (which look like photo albums) feature pictures and descriptions of everything so that you know exactly what you're getting. The croquette curry we got looked just like the picture! As did the honey grapefruitade.
I could've used just a little more curry, but everything was good – the fried items were all crisp to perfection and the honey grapefruitade is refreshing, perfect for these hot summer days. I also got a Pong Crush, which is kinda like a cereal and milk drink. Definitely more of a dessert than a drink to go along with your meal, but I liked it.
Shout out to our server who managed to single-handedly managed to serve everyone with a smile!
Ummm how cute is this place?! I'm so obsessed with the indoor decor here. You would think you're in Korea with all of the flowers and attention to detail on the walls and ceiling.
I came here for a late dinner and only ordered the Mansour plate to share. The donkatsu was SO good. Really crispy and the sauce was on point. The kimchi fried rice with egg was also great. The curry and hamburger steak were good, but not my favorite.
The service was over the top. They are super friendly and since it was slow on a Monday night we got to talk to the staff a decent bit. I really love the name (means "I like it" in Korean) and the concept of the place. Casual yet intimate, and calm/peaceful in the hustle and bustle that is Flushing.
I took a good look on their menu and everything sounds so good!! Can't wait to come back to try their cocktails and other dishes.
FYI there's a quad of pokestops outside and you have access to at least two of them throughout your meal.
Cozy lil place on Northern blvd, right before the LIRR tracks. Super girly decor is an odd choice though. Incredibly well thought out collection of plates and presentation. Friendly service. Went during a dead time, so no rushing us out, wonder if that would be case during busier hours.
Had the budaejjigae and spicy pork. Flavor for both were great, was oily and heavy without being overly salty. Good balance. Presentation was nice too, budaejjigae was served in a tiny wok over an open flame and the pork was served on a bed of greens and topped with a ton of scallions. Easily made what should be an oily dish look "healthy." Spied other dishes on other tables, all were equally as thoughtful in terms of presentation.
Drinks were probably the only let down. Cocktails weren't made well (literally soju and juice) however looks terrific. They even froze grapes into the ice cube.
Food = 3 stars
Service = 5 stars
Don't under estimate the portions of the food!! It was huge and we could not finish it for a group of 5. My friends and I were bickering about what to order for the table. And she wanted to order 3 mansour plates… lucky I stopped her. Your eyes sees more than you can eat.
My group ordered 2 mansour plates along with eggs in heaven and hell and okonomiyaki fries. We also flushed it down with honey grapefruit and a huge pitcher of soju.
The mansour plate consist of kimchi fried rice with an egg on top, curry rice, curry katsu, hamburger steak, potato salad, and radish slaw. Honestly I'm not a fan of curry but I'll still eat it. But if I had a choice, I'd probably choose something without it. The curry katsu wasn't fresh and it tasted like frozen food to me. Hamburger steak was alright, nothing too special. The rice wasn't memorable, I only had one scoop of each.
The eggs in heaven definitely tasted better than the eggs in hell. Why? The eggs in hell tasted really gamey. Heaven is definitely where I want to be at! It was made with cream sauce, onions and sausages topped with two eggs. You are supposed to mixed them and then scoop the heavenly goodness on bread and cracker to enjoy.
I think my two favorite things at Joah is the eggs in heaven and the fries. Fries were filling and tasted great with the bonito flakes and sauce.
I have to say the waitress and waiter at Joah were extremely nice and attentive. The interior and decor was also really nice and cozy.
I love this new spot I found on yelp! Not sure why it's labeled Korean because I think it's more like a fusion style restaurant. Interior design was cute and their menu was in a scrapbook form. We ordered the classic Mansour platter which was a great first time dish there, because it gives a little variety and you can taste a bit of everything. I definitely will be going back to try other dishes like their kimichi fried rice and their pasta dishes! By the way… anything with a runny egg add on top is always awesome 😛
