We had some errands to run in Prospect Park and right across the street was a corner Smoke Shack. We decided to stop in and the owner was there to help us select some really great items for lunch. We ordered the ribs, pulled pork sandwiches w fries and bacon mac and cheese. To top it all off we had their homemade bread pudding.
There isn't any seating inside but there is a table outside so we dug right in. My bf devoured his pulled pork sandwiches but before he could polish 'em off, I bartered two of my ribs for one of his sandwiches. The rib meat fell right off the bone and they were so juicy and flavorful you didn't need any sauce. You can have the ribs served with the sauce or with sauce on the side.
The bacon mac and cheese bread pudding were like southern' luvin' in your mouth! Both thick, rich and threatens to give you heart attack but it's worth it!
Decent. Not amazing, not horrible. It's an ok spot for BBQ.
The food was laying in a foil bin. The meat was ok. The ribs were not meaty but the brisket was fine.
Service was slow even with only 2 people ordering. They were dealing with phone orders and issues.
I was not impressed with the place but I didn't hate it.
When owners decide to retaliate against their customers instead of trying to encourage them to come back to give them another try, it is times like this that determine whether or not a business will improve or potentially disintegrate. I would of been more then willing to return to Joeper's if he would of focused on making the customer happy rather then try to school me on how BBQ is supposed to be in his opinion. The background of your business as per the back of your menu shows that this once was a hobby for you rather then something you studied or mastered, so to be honest I learned 0 from his speech.
Ever heard that good ol' expression " the customer is always right" , I think this applies here!
Hey! Finally there is a place that serves real BBQ without buying a whole platter tray of stuff. There are only 2 downsides. The first one is the minimum when using delivery. I love using GrubHub when ordering Joppers, but once the minimum went up to 30 dollars I ended up using it a whole lot less. Whenever ordering, it's always just my boyfriend and I; so we we don't always get 30 worth of food. The second is the variety in sides. I wished there were more choices for sides. I can switched up my sides and get something that isn't fried.
My favorite things to get from here: 1. Bourbon Bread pudding – only had bread pudding once before trying it from here. Got to say love this one better. I always try to order on the weekends rather than weekdays. For one thing I can't eat this more than once a week lol. Also they only offer it on Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays so its better just to order a meal along with dessert. 2. The Sliders – I like both the chicken and pork sliders. 3. Hushpuppies – First off its hard to find hushpuppies I like anywhere in Brooklyn, and its not far from my house. Enough said, hushpuppies from here is a way to go.
This isn't much of a downside, but more of my preference of taste. I tend to go for more sweeter rather than tangier sauces. In my opinion the BBQ sauces are too tangy for my liking. Wish there were more options in range of taste in BBQ sauce. Thats probably though because each region has their own taste of BBQ sauces. I just just lean more towards the sweetest ones.
Overall it's a good place to get bbq. Definitely better than BBQs chain restaurant crap lol, no question or doubt about that. Just adjust a few things then it's better than ever.
Apparently they have far better things to do than serve customers. I gave my order to two men, both of whom proceeded to take care of several random tasks, none of which involved preparing my food. Another man came in, ordered, and was served while I waited. Still nobody working on by brisket. I stayed a few more minutes assuming my order would be next. Nope. Joke's on me. The best thing I can say about this place is that it smells good.
I had Joeper's bookmarked for some time now, and was waiting for the right moment to visit. I pass this little corner BBQ spot often. I called in advance because it was closed down due to a personal issue. Definitely grinning from ear to ear once it was confirm BBQ was open for business! Upon entering, it's smaller than I thought, Kinda of like a food stand….however there was a couple of stools facing out the window. The owner was very kind and welcoming. I ordered the rib and brisket combo with a side of mac & cheese and the Bourbon bread pudding for dessert. The ribs were good. Nice dry rub. I prefer a fatter rib personally. The star of my meal was the bread pudding! MMM I am certainly revisit! Joeper's Smokeshack is back!
After the soul-sucking activity of going to Kings Plaza to get some stuff for an upcoming trip, my boyfriend and I decided to stop by Joeper's since I've had the place bookmarked for ages but never really had the chance to visit. We came in on a sunny Saturday afternoon with the place empty except for another customer picking up an order. The owner (the only person working that day) was pleasant and chatty inside the tiny shoppe that's adorned with out-of-state car plates and other memorabilia. The place invokes a down home vibe in the middle of busy Flatbush Ave.
The food: I had the Brisket platter and my boyfriend got the Chicken/Rib combo platter. His order was delicious but mine was lacking/overkill in several areas. My brisket, while cooked well, was overshadowed by the too-tangy sauce while the meat was flavorless and seemed un-marinated. The fries were on point, however, or as the youngsters say these days: on fleek.
Overall, this place wins on some dishes- like any meat with the bones still intact, but skip the brisket and I'm guessing, the pulled pork. I want to go back and try the brisket burnt ends next time.
It's okay but nothing to rave about.
My fiancé and I were driving on Flatbush earlier today and spotted a shop that said "Smoke Shack." We were just talking about being hungry so my fiancé asked me to look at the menu. We were happy to see it was on seamless so when we arrived at the house we logged on and ordered.
My fiancé had a combo of ribs and wings that came with fries and 1 sauce. He picked the tomato based sweet sauce and really liked it. He loved the ribs. But was also quite fond of the wings. I'm sure if he were to write this review he'd give them 4 stars.
As for me I ordered the 3 pulled pork sliders with fries and coleslaw with sweet bbq sauce for $9. The portion was Impressive considering the price. The pork had a perfect smoke to it and wasn't dry. They were good. I only ate 1 and am looking forward to the rest so there's something.
I also ordered a side of bacon mac and cheese. To say it was bad would be an understatement. The noodles were so overcooked that I couldn't pick them up with a fork without them falling apart. They were mushy and filled with onions. No strong cheese flavor and the bacon was practically non-existent. I am unsure how it could have been that overcooked considering we ordered only an hour after their doors opened for the day.
The hush puppies were pretty good. They were quite dense but also quite dry which was a shame. They were also very spicy. They were a good portion for the $3.50 price tag and I'm excited to make honey butter to spread of them when I get home. They needed something to balance out the kick.
On seamless we were told it would take upwards of an hour for delivery but our food arrive within 20 minutes which was a nice surprise.
I wish the menu had more variety and that the mac and cheese wasn't so disappointing.
