I went in this afternoon for a solo lunch fest. Because of the time of day, I was seated immediately by the hostess who helpfully swept under my table before I sat down to order. I probably waited 4 minutes before a server came to greet me and take down my order. I waited on by Shy-Asia and she was very sweet and polite and had a penchant for calling people "sweetie" as evidenced by my overhearing her waiting on the table behind me. I went in knowing exactly what I wanted, so I was able to give her my complete order in under a minute.
I didn't note the time it took for the food to get to the table but I feel like it took no longer than 20 minutes. I did order a drink that came after my food. Shy-Asia noticed I didn't have it in front of me yet and she went and retrieved it herself. So that drink time is a minor suck, because the bar area and the dining room was pretty much empty save for 8 tables, my own included in that count.
FYI, the Berry Red Sangria is delicious. I'm not much a fan of alcohol but I do love a nice fruity sangria. It wasn't too sweet or overpowering at all. I also ordered Joe's Original Steampot (I think that's the name) and the Thursday-only $15 whole maine lobster special. I only sampled some of the food and so far it's very tasty.
This was my first time visiting Joe's Crab Shack and I have to say, I was not disappointed. I rated my visit only 3 stars because while I wasn't displeased, I also wasn't blown away. It was a perfectly nice lunch at a chain restaurant I've never been to before. I do know I'll be returning again….this time with people and I will come and update my rating afterwards.
I'm just so glad they have free wifi. 🙂
Do not go here unless you have all day to spend there. The service is extremely slow. And so is the food. My soup didnt even come out hot.
Stay away from this place! I would not touch their food with a ten foot pole. Just plain horrible. I really didn't want to come here because of all the negative reviews but my bf insisted we try it out. We ordered the sampler platter and Artic Bay Steampot. All of the food was way too salty and still had that seawater taste which I hate! The lobster and crab had very little meat and parts of it were dry. I was surprised to find that the body cavity had been hollowed out and the only edible meat from the lobster were from the two front claws and tail. The sausage wasnt cooked all the way through and the shrimp meat was rubbery. I had to smother all the food in butter to make the fishy taste… Total waste of my money. The servers were very nice though. I don't see Joe's Crab Shack staying in business for very long.
Joe's is a tad bit on the salty side but still good!
The sampler comes with a bit of everything however the crab dip was the highlight of the sampler in addition to the fire balls (hee, hee, hee) fire me up ! Good stuff!
Was disappointed with the steamer basket options because I'm allergic to steamed shrimp and every steam basket has shrimp in it so couldn't have this.
Because Joes Crab Shack is a franchised restaurant and can't veer off from the standard menu you can't substitute the shrimp with another seafood option as per our server however I'm sure I don't stand alone in that additional options needs to be added for the Steamer Baskets so we can all enjoy.
My friend ordered the Fish & Chips and I the East Coast platter which was very good even thoughI feel the fish had too much batter for my liking.
We ordered soft drinks however the cocktails drinks they have an offer look amaze balls and since we were in recovery from the night before we skipped on the alcohol beverages this day however I like their alcohol policy they have a 2 drink limit per person since this is for most a drive to & from location. Joe's is the first establishment I've ever been to that enforces this policy.
The outside dining area is vigorously watched and I like that. To many times patrons have the option to dine outdoors and get overlooked but not here, The staff was very attentive throughout our dining and on point and with that having been said I'll certainly be back.
I treated my mom to Joe's Crab Shack for her birthday for lunch during the weekday and had a very pleasant experience. First my mom is a very simple lady and will go to the same restaurants all the time (city island, Red Lobster) and that's about it. She's not that open to trying new spots even chain restaurants. I convinced her to try this place out and she surprisingly agreed. I don't even eat seafood but I am always trying to get her to leave her comfort zone. She would have a fit if she read this by the way. LOL
We arrived around 3PM and the place wasn't crowded, thank God. I've drove by this spot in the evenings and it's usually crowded, I ordered the steak frites with fries and hushpuppies. My mom ordered the fish and shrimp. When the waitress informed her the fish wasn't flounder which she ALWAYS orders I just knew we were getting up and leaving. LOL. Luckily, she tried the "different" fish, think it was perch. My steak was okay a bit tougher than I liked but my main concern was my mom being pleased with her meal. I asked how was she enjoying her meal and she said it was good, However, about 15 minutes later I looked up and her plate was almost empty. I said dang, you really enjoyed that huh? LOL, She laughed and said the food was very tasty including her newfound fish that she was hesitant to try.
The service was great and we had no issues or concerns. One of the things that stood out for me was when I saw the general manager, Ron come out and check on the customers asking how everyone was doing? He was also sweeping and tidying up as he walked around, even though the place appeared very clean. I definitely didn't remember this outstanding customer service when I was at the Harlem location when it first opened. I am not even sure if its still open. Nevertheless, my mom had a great time and enjoyed her meal. She said she was definitely coming back with her friends who eat seafood so they could try each other's dishes. WOW. Great job "Joe's" for pleasing my mommy.
Visiting the area for a really quick trip with my family. My Uncle lives nearby and thought we'd love this place. We came in at 11 for lunch and the place was empty. Service was good, food was ok. I ordered the East Coast platter which was decent. I don't know why I keep ordering fried food because I usually hate it after the fact. The fries were really good though. My Mom got the Cajun salad and loved it, My sister and my husband got the Queen Crab and didn't really think it was up to par (shell was too soft). We all came back for lunch the next day because of the salads. The place was busier, it was 2pm, but service was still good and the salad was delicious. Kids had the crab pots for $10 which they loved.
I love Joes. My first experience was in a Colorodo Joe's. Second in Minnesota and third in New York. All of my out of state experiences really were great. Harlem and Queens Center locations? Not so much. I believe part of it really is the employees. If people don't want to be there serving you, you feel it. The food is always pretty much on the same level- cures my crab craving, sometimes leaving me wanting more. I can only speak for the steam-pots, that's really all I order. The kids menu isn't my picky toddlers favorite – but she is a huge fan of the paint your own crab dessert.
I was very excited to see this spot open up right next to Queens Center. Prices for the steam pots are not bad BUT the seasoning for the seafood is quite salty. We ordered the dungeness crab and the lobster steam pots, which came with corn and sausage.
They had disposable bibs with written funny puns on it like "Queen/King Crab". Pretty cool!
