  1. The pizza is delicious!! You can tell they use the finest ingredients and make the food with love. My pizza was thin, crispy and pipping hot. The place is kept very clean and tidy which reveals a sense of care and pride for there establishment. For a mushroom & Margarita slice, it came out to $5.35, but hey you get what you pay for which is quality.

  2. Real local NJ Pizzeria.  Can be tough to find, it's just a door on Rock Road in Glen Rock.  Price is right and service is friendly.

Might not be the cleanest place in the world, but hey it's a pizzeria serving up great slices.

  3. This is my favorite place to grab a slice. I have had the great fortune of spending a good amount of time in Manhattan and the not so fortunate opportunity to live on Staten Island for a few years and nowhere have I found a slice of pizza like this.

I grew up down the street and on fridays in elementary school it was a treat to walk into town and have pizza with your friends. It's what the cool kids were doing then, and it's what they're still doing now. Nothing has changed about this place in the last 15 years except for maybe the countertops and a slight upgrade to the bathroom. The pizza itself has a great crisp crust without being too thin and the cheese/sauce combination is wonderful, not too salty and not too sweet.

The price of your meal is always rounded down to avoid dealing with pocket change and you'd be hard pressed to go over $4.00 for two slices and a can though I remember when it was closer to $2-$3…inflation haha.

I'm pretty sure that their pastas are made fresh, their dough for certain is, if you ask at the counter they will sell it to you to make pizza at home. I think the only downside to John's is that they're not open on Sundays as is much of Glen Rock so if I come home to visit I have to make sure to get there on Saturday, otherwise I leave at the end of the weekend disappointed.

  4. I'm a Brooklyn native. My man-friend is a New Jersey native.

Needless to say, we don't always see eye-to-eye on pizza.

However, one place we can agree on is John's Boy. A good measure of a pizza place is their regular slice and John's Boy's regular slice is really freakin' good. It's thin and crispy. Best of all, their prices compared to a mediocre Manhattan pizza joint are on point for a really solid product. Whenever we take a trip to New Jersey we ritualistically make a stop to John's Boy. Almost makes me look forward to visiting the in-laws, *wink*

  5. Couldn't agree with Erik S's review more – John's is the best pizza in the area. I even feel confident saying it's the best pizza I've ever had, and I've eaten at more pizza places than I'd like to admit.

I have never once been disappointed with my food there (and I've eaten there at least 100 times), whether it be plain slices, pepperoni, broccoli and ricotta, baked ziti or even the regular salad. The employees are fantastic and SO nice; you really can't ask for anything better.

Recommendation: order by the slice (vs an entire pie) if you can, it's just that much better when eaten by the slice. Not sure why, but it's a little "whiter" (aka more cheese) and I find it that much more delicious.

Writing this review makes me wish I was at John's right now. Maybe they could start delivering to Philly? 🙂

  6. This is a 1 star review for the Buffalo Chicken pizza. If I am to trust all of the other reviews, then I'm sure their traditional Italian meals are good, but it was probably the worst Buffalo Chicken pie I've ever had. Ever.

Yes, this is my 3rd pizza place review in a row…. I am on a mission for good Buffalo Chicken pizza in the Prospect Park area. I am experiencing mission failure. It is bad. I didn't think I could get much worse than the other pie I tried.. if I gave that place 1 star I might have to bump it up to 2 now.

It looked like a regular pizza pie, not Buffalo Chicken: typical sauce, cheese, some breaded chicken pieces. There was no bleu cheese at all. I bit into my super crookedly cut slice and I could not figure out if it was actually chicken or sausage. It tasted more like a parm specialty slice. My second slice, which was half the size of my first because it looked like someone cut the pizza with their eyes closed, tasted like it had a lot of buffalo sauce on it….?!?! Possibly the entire pie was made blindly…
I don't get how you can mess up a pizza so badly.

    …………….MISSION FAILED……………..
