Rarely do I walk into a place and feel at home. Very rare but despite its name, I feel right at home. The familiar aromas of my mama's cooking filled my nostrils.
Fried chicken? I'll pass on the fried but the rotisserie chicken was bangin'! Full of flavor and a pleasant change from bland chicken I've tasted elsewhere.
To be honest, I'm not quite sure of the prices here. I didn't even bother looking at the menu which in retrospect I realize I should've done to get my best bang for my buck but for $15 we left with a doggy bag and full beyond belief. we got a combo of 1/2 chicken with white rice & black beans. We also got pernil (roasted pork), arroz con gandules (yellow rice w pigeon peas) and some yuca. Yes- we were STARVING. And although the cuero (skin) wasn't crispy enough, everything was AMAZING! Great seasoning, textures and I felt like it was thanksgiving dinner at my mama's house (sans the turkey).
I can attest that they barely speak English here as I had to do all the ordering. My lover doesn't speak Spanish! But all worked out and we stuffed our faces with delicious Latin food chatting away with happy faces and smiles! Awesome spot with delicious food!
This place never disappoints. I used to go here while I worked in the Hudson County area. First time eating here in about 2 years and it's still great. This place would be a perfect 5 stars if it had a bigger dining area. Feels a bit crammed when it's busy. Especially when there are workers walking back and forth. Other than that I have absolutely no complaints about this place. The food is the closest thing to my mother's cooking. Everything from the different types of rice to the pernil…I agree that the name is awful. Would never step into this place thinking it was much much more than a chicken shack.
