I had a great experience at Jolson's. They had over eight types of Prosecco, and the staff was very knowledgeable. They also helped me pick the right stopper for my fizzy drink. Nothing too special about the prices, but the selection was right!
Not to be confused with the expensive Manhattan wine and liquor stores, Jolson's keeps a good stock of quality alcohol at fairly low prices. I haven't ever had a problem finding something here for that low key, big booze type party and don't bother calling ahead of time (though for Manhattan places I do almost every time).
The store itself is not large, but the selection seems decent. If something isn't available, the guys behind the counter are always willing to take a real quick check in the back to see if they have what you're looking for. The hours of operation are your standard close-before-midnight policy, which is a shame because they could make a killing opening late at night.
I love great customer service. When various staff members go the distant for you. You won me over.
Came in for some "Madeira" wine for a dish I was going to cook. One guy directed me were I had to go. When I got there, another guy showed me my options. Little to expensive, $20 to $40 per bottle. Not worth it. Sales guy then gave me another option that I could use for $7. Sold, since Madeira is similar to Dry Sherry.
Not only did they make a $7 sale, but they will benefit from my hundreds of dollars that I spend yearly on wine and liquor.
Customer service is what it is all about and Jolson's is right on…………
A local liquor store conveniently located underneath the N/Q and a 5-min walk from me, this is where I go to pick up a bottle of wine.
I drink exclusively wine at home so I'm happy with the selection they have, both in terms of quality and price. I also like how the wines are shelved by country – I was looking for a Spanish red which I had years ago and the signage definitely helped.
Staff are helpful when you're not sure what you're looking for. Came in once with a low budget as my main requirement and got some decent recommendations.
A very fine place to acquire a bottle of the factory produced vintage recommended at the end of your "cooking light" article or a jug of your favorite schlock, but otherwise I think the wine selection here is lacking in interest. I'd much rather trek to the city for a better wine dealer. On the other hand, Jolson's has never failed to provide me with a tasty bottle at a not-outrageous price, and that is something to be said for it. Also, it is the best of the wine shops in the immediate Ditmars area, and actually probably better than the larger Grand a little further away.
