  1. The brunch here is delicious! Yes, there is a wait but it's worth it. It's not a great place for groups because the the space is pretty small. The service is friendly but not overbearing. The hash brown is crisp and the potatoes are very finely grated! The garlic sausage is garlicky goodness. I love the burger and the tomato marmalade is just divine. It is heavier on the salt and very decadent meal. Absolute gem!

  2. With so many places to choose from, picking a spit in the Village for brunch can be difficult. But when you see line-ups the night before for dinner, the next day for lunch and the following day for breakfast, you know there has to be something good about a place.

Joseph Leonard doesn't disappoint. The ambiance is wonderful with a setting somewhere between a 1930's film set and an Indiana Jones movies with warm woods, relic art and comfortable seating and a bar area.

I can't speak for lunch or dinner however brunch was awesome. Just look at the pictures. The service is unpretentious and the food is visually and gastronomically wonderful. The fried chicken steak seemed to be popular for brunch and the salmon eggs benedict and the avocado toast were perfect.

If you're in the Village I'm sure you'll be happy with a breakfast or brunch at Joseph Leonard.

  3. Everything here was great – the ambiance, the service, the food and the cocktails.

This is a small restaurant, and frequently has a wait very early in the evening. The last time we ate here,we had to wait 15 minutes for a table for two at 5:20pm on a Wednesday.

There's a great elevated bar area, near the chef's bar, that gives you a great view of the restaurant and is out of the way, in what becomes a crowded, difficult to navigate space.

The menu is small, but covers all the bases (even vegan/GF). The servers are well versed on the menu and can help guide you and suggest wine/beverage pairings.

I would definitely recommend this place for small, intimate dinners – not great for large parties.

  4. Came here for dinner this time, the last time I was here was for Brunch and bought a puppy across the road.

Dinner here is just as delicious as the brunch. This time we ordered the chicken, dorade, brussels sprouts and drinks. All food was delicious, especially the brussels sprouts, it's a MUST order.

It was a busy night, but the service was pretty quick, we were lucky to get a table without reservation.

Absolutely love this place and will come back again.

  5. Maybe I expected too much?

Saucisson A Lail – Garlic Pork Sausage, Hashbrown, Creme Fraiche & Arugula

The sausage was amazing, definitely sophisticated flavors going on, the eggs cooked perfectly. The Hashbrown, however, fell flat. Is this supposed to be made without salt? Phenomenal texture but flavorless, the sour cream barely made it better. The chef actually over baked the outside, so it was inedible and had to be wasted.

My Reissdorf Kolsch on tap made the experience better, decent wine and beer selection. They seem to satisfy many reviewers and I think they deserve a second chance, and their dinner menu looks voluptuous.

  6. Maybe it's because we waited over an hour for food that we didn't want to order because they ran out, but neither my girlfriend or I enjoyed brunch at Joseph Leonard.

To be honest, I don't know why this place has so many great reviews. First off, the venue is small, so even for a party of 2, you'll have to wait at least at hour (we arrived off peak too at around 2 pm). Since my girlfriend really wanted the "Benedict", we walked around the area and came back when our table was ready. However, when ordering, we were told that they sold out of the "Benedict", so we settled for the fried chicken sandwich and the Saucisson a l'ial (pork and sausage with fried eggs and hashbrown) instead given that we waited for a table and sat down already.

I've never had such bland food before. The fried chicken in the sandwich was so overly fried and desperately needed seasoning. The sausages were nothing memorable, but the hashbrown was memorable for all the wrong reasons. Although impressive in size, the hashbrown was also overly fried and extremely thin. The weird texture transferred over to the taste as it tasted like unseasoned carrots.

Skip waiting at line here and take your brunch aspirations elsewhere.

  7. Who wouldn't love country fried bacon! I don't know bacon could be more unhealthy and yet so delicious. Bloody Mary's are great too. Place is small and fills up fast but worth it for brunch. Staff can be a lot of fun too!

  8. Joseph Leonard is another one of Gabe Stulman's incredible West Village hot spots, known mostly for it's legendary American style brunch menu (with a less well known, but equally as awesome dinner menu).  The space is very small (with maybe 15 tables at most) which usually results in a long wait for a table during peak brunch/dinner hours considering their no reservations policy.  That said, the atmosphere is rustic (with a strong country house vibe), warm, and very inviting (as with most of its sister restaurants) with an exceptionally friendly waitstaff.

While the service and atmosphere are a big part of what makes this place so special, the menu is truly a home run.  From a brunch standpoint, the Saucisson a l'ail (pork and garlic sausage, fried eggs and hashbrowns) are a personal favorite and one of a kind, with the monkey bread being a favorite by many of the locals.  From the dinner menu, you can't go wrong with the chicken or the legendary NY strip for two.  Of course, being a "Wisco Bar," this place serves up a tremendous batch of oysters to compliment an awesome selection of Bloody Marys (the Green Bay Bloody Mary with dill-infused vodka is essentially a spicy green juice with vodka; The Bloody Caesar actually comes with a beer chaser).

Without a doubt a must go.
