  1. I just ordered chincharron mofongo from Judy's – it arrived quickly, without hassle, and hot.  It was also very tasty (and there's a lot of it, and for a good price).  Good large chunks of pork, and a very nice and crispy piece of skin on the top.

It's a touch dry in the middle, but it's my own fault for being too hasty with the excellent gravy.  I will definitely buy again and maybe go to the restaurant itself.

There seem to be a lot of conflicting reviews on Yelp – a lot of 4's and 5's and a lot of 1's.  I'd like to hope that Judy's is just getting better, but I have to say that they have a lot of items on their menu – I would recommend that they cut it down to just things they're really good at (like the mofongo) – after reading some of the 1 star reviews, I'm not sure I'm brave enough to try anything else.

But the mofongo really was very good.

Edit: Ordered again – pernil mofongo and goat mofongo.  Pernil was good, goat was great.  We also ordered a side of fried pork skins.  It's absolutely unfair how good these were, especially with lemon – creamy, crunchy, salty, with plenty of meat and flavor.

  2. Ok, I'm no expert on Spanish or Dominican eats but I thought it was pretty decent at this tiny hole in the wall.

Walked by this place for years up in East Harlem and never had a chance to check it out. A few weekends ago we decided to before walking uptown to Costco.

Clean and attractive decor. A really nice selection of Spanish dishes from the classic entrees, to desserts, drinks and beers to choose from. Bunch of tables in the front set in a small dining area. Flat screen above the window with some sort of Latin music channel on.

Sturdy enough portions on pretty much everything we ordered. No really, the amount of food on our plates were more than filling. Good food at reasonable prices. You won't go away hungry here! Sure, if you travel up farther into the deeper part of Spanish Harlem above 105th street you can find cheaper but some of those spots are less than desirable to sit down and dine at. Sorry, but it's the truth.

Arroz Con Pollo (rice with roast chicken), Arroz Con Camarones (rice with jumbo shrimps), creamy red beans, Maduros (fried sweet plantains), and the tres leches cake were all solid! Oh, and the homemade lemonade is so worth it. Made from scratch right at the bar/counter area.

Damn, I really need to go back and try their mofongo! Heck, I just like saying it.

    Mofongo!

  3. Was craving some latin food so I decided to try Judy's since I pass by it nearly every day. The portions were big…lasted me for almost the whole week and very tasty.

I ordered the ox tail platter and overall it was very flavorful. The rice was a little bit too oily for my taste, but it was delicious. I would definitely order takeout again and possibly go in for a dine-in experience. From the outside the place looks pretty tiny, but aren't all great places?

  4. Ordered via grubhub and was surprised how fast the food got to my office considering I was 20+ blocks away.

The roast chicken lunch special with yellow rice and red beans was good (although it had many small bones) but overall tasted good.

The fried fish lunch special with yellow rice and black beans tasted really good-the fish had seemed like it was marinated in lemon juice.

    The Maduros/sweet plaintains were great.
The beef patty had a good amount of beef in it but it was a bit oily.

I just wish the meal came with some sort of sauce on the side.

  5. Yummy yum yum.
I love Spanish food. Period. Obsessed with it.

Decided to do delivery from this place while at work during a hard pressed, 12 hr night shift.

After submitting my order, I get a phone call about 45 min after, scared that my order was cancelled.

I braced myself. Turns out it was a gentleman on the phone letting me know that my food was ready & on its way.

Definitely sounded like a manager move right there & I greatly appreciated it! Very thoughtful & professional to do because by that time I thought they had forgotten about my order.

The delivery guy even called me to let me know he was waiting for me.

By far the best & most efficient deliver I've ever received. Everyone was patient, nice, & professional.

The food was amazing. Packaged well & seasoned nicely.

Looking forward to future deliveries & meals from this place.

  6. It's a bit dark and bar-like inside, and they have the usual menu of meat-heavy entrees, rice dishes, the usual iterations of plantains, and some sandwiches.

BF and I split a roast pork with salad – dry pieces of shredded pork on top of a large iceberg salad with corn, peas, tomatoes and onion.  We also split a fried tilapia platter with a generous portion of rice and beans.  The total without tip was about 30 bucks.

All in all, serviceable, but not great.  The rice and beans did not have much flavor, and the pork was just meh.

  7. After a few hours of helping a friend move to this neighborhood we were starving for some food!. Luckily Judy's was around the corner. The food was good. Most of us had the steak and onions which came with rice and beans, though I had mine with a salad. Also, a Dominican breakfast was ordered, which consists of fried cheese, fried salami and eggs. We also ordered a sancocho to go which is a  plantain based soup with chicken. Service was attentive, place was clean, music was good and food was good. Happy hour has $3 beers. Definitely will come back when in the neighborhood visiting!

  8. So I have been working here 3 years never tried the place until after I left the neighborhood.  The food is good. Taste is there but frankly I'm disappointed by the serving size. For 13 dollars,  I got abt 2 cups of food (ordered the chicken and Spanish rice which was a special on their menu) and I'm saddened. I have never gone to a Spanish restaurant and gotten that amount of food before.

So this rating is based on portion size and not taste of food which is darn good. Also to add, I only purchased take-out.
