Out of all the ice cream roll places I've been to, Juicy Spot is currently my favorite. There was a bit of a wait when I went on a Saturday afternoon, but I'm sure the ~20 minutes was nothing compared to the wait for 10below, where there was a literal crowd waiting outside.
What I really like about Juicy Spot is their unique ice cream flavors and combinations. I've only tried the cookie butter one but I absolutely loved it. If you like Speculoos/ginger snaps/cinnamon, this one's for you. Can't wait to go back and try the other options!
Fun! Fun! Fun! Cool ice cream that has a focus on form over flavor. It does taste good but the curly rolls is what it's about! I'm told the concept comes from Thailand.

In the tail end of the thai style ice cream craze, I finally decided to indulge in these custom made sweet treats. Tiff picked this place. We read the entire menu from sign to sign. She decided on the Number 6 Watermelon Lychee with Granola. They even let her substitute Yogurt and swap out Granola for Rainbow Sprinkles. With a Yelp Check In you get a free topping. I had a custom made: Regular with Oreo, Mochi, Cookies and Cream Pocky, and Nutella. It cost a total of $13. You get a show. They mash, smash, and spread it until becomes a frozen paste to be rolled and assembled in a bouquet of ice cream. The toppings were great but ice cream wasn't anything was special.
We took the original base with oreo flavor, strawberries and condensed milk and it was just the perfect combo.
I'm usually not really a big ice cream eater so my boyfriend usually take an ice cream and I taste a little, but my usually maximum ice cream capacity is about a half scoop… Here, I nearly ate it all and I definitely could have eaten more if we didn't took it to go.
These Ice creams are amazing!!
Their acai bowl is amazing!!! It's so hard to find acai bowls in general in NYC, so I'm glad there's a place that serves it right near my apt. The bowl looks pretty small, but is enough to fill you up – it'll cost you almost $10. Pretty expensive, but anything with acai in it is always pricey. I always want to get a bowl after a workout since it's so damn refreshing and healthy. Make sure you have ample time if you want to get that as it takes just about as much time as the rolled ice cream to make. They really do make sure that it's made well, even the fruits on top are laid out in a pretty pattern :).
Everytime I go, the store hasn't been insanely busy, which I like, but there are a couple of small tables and bar seats there if you want to enjoy your dessert there.
Haven't tried the rolled ice cream here yet, I really should get on that… 😛 Some of the flavor combos look pretty amazing!
Excellent ice cream! Flavor combinations and topping options are great. We were able to place our order and find an open seat within 2 minutes of walking in the door. And this was at 9pm on a 90-degree Saturday night in the summer.
I would come back again for sure. No wait, great quality.
We got: Black sesame and watermelon lychee (substituted mango for the granola). Both were tasty!
Thai rolled ice cream!!! Of course we've all seen Insider cover this fantastic phenomenon we called rolled ice cream. But it was cool before then! We just didn't know about it yet :p
9:00PM on a Tuesday night (yesterday) and Chinatown is on fire! Juicy Spot is pretty small with limited seating and all of it was taken. I actually prefer this place over 10below, as it has a better variety of flavours and toppings and is obviously much less crowded.
I went with the Good Crazy Matcha which is a matcha base with lychee mixed in, with mochi, grass jelly and condensed milk on top. I added matcha and strawberry pocki, although I should have added more since they're allowing unlimited toppings for a month. Needless to say, this ice cream is creamy and delicious. I love the light, sweet lychee flavour in every bite. The condensed milk, jelly and mochi add unique textures and flavours to the mild matcha ice cream.
The service here is awesome. The gentleman that made my cup of happiness was pleased by how excited my friend and I were for our ice cream. We told him that it's beautiful and that he is an artist and he was very thankful for the compliments and all smiles. I can tell that he enjoys his job and puts heart into these wonderful creations.
I'm definitely one to become obsessed if my first impression was great and it sure was! I even plan to go back later on today 🙂 Looking forward to trying the Watermelon Lychee and Ferro-Roll Cher combos.
My dinner plans changed so I decided to make a stop at Juicy Spot Café (I've had it bookmarked as a place to try for some time). I got there around there a little before 9:00 p.m. and this place was swarming with people. I made my way to the line where a young lady took my order. I checked in on yelp–you get an additional topping added. You can make your own ice-cream creation or order from the already created options. It was cool to watch the ice cream being made–they take liquid ice cream and pour it over a steel/metal plate. They add the fruit and mix it then they spread it out on the plate–once the ice cream is cold enough, they use a metal spatula to make the rolls. Once the rolls are made, they drizzle with a sauce of your choice or what is in the pre-created option. I will say that you have to be patient as the ice cream creations are made by hand and obviously made to order. This is going to be different than getting a scoop.
I chose the watermelon lychee with mango as my additional topping. It was nice a light–very refreshing. I also liked the mochi and mango–it worked well with the ice cream. The service was okay. They only accept cash, so keep that in mind. I would definitely go back the next time in town.
