Came for the pizza, left with a pizza.
Juniors leaves much to be desired in the way of decor and ambiance, but it makes up for those shortcomings with its pizza. I finally, FINALLY found an affordable but excellent pizza joint in LIC.
My visit was on a monday night, so there was no crowd at all, a few regulars though. Anyway, I'd come back for the food. Wish they had better TVs though. The bar pie is enough for 2 people.
This is a nice neighborhood place that hasn't been overrun by gentrification in LIC and I hope it stays that way. My husband and I have been having dinner in LIC at least once a week for the past two years while our daughter goes to art class but we had never gone to Junior's (I blame my husband but he now knows the error of his ways).
There were only three beers on tap which would probably throw off a lot of people but they had Hoegaarden and Budweiser so I don't see much room to complain. It's completely unpretentious and I loved it.
The food was phenomenal. We shared a veal parmesan hero which had about three layers of breaded veal and a tangy slightly garlicky sauce with lots of cheese on a delightfully crunchy on the outside, chewy on the inside roll. The other dish was chicken cordon bleu which had a nice salty prosciutto and lots of cheese stuffed inside. It also had a nice mushroom sauce on top that was flavorful but not creamy. The garlic and oil pasta on the side was cooked nicely al dente and went great with the chicken.
The staff was super friendly and provided excellent service. It seemed like there were only regulars in the bar besides us but the service didn't seem to suffer for it.
Next time we are going to try the bar pizza because we are definitely going back…very soon!
If your a young old-fashioned like me you will appreciate this place. I love mom and pop type places and Juniors Cafe is just that and a pizza pie. A bud light would cost you $4.00. It was only $8 for a bar pie and two people shared it. My Jack and coke was $6.00 and strong. I will say the place was pretty empty and it is sad that it was. You can tell that its mostly a local bar for regular joes and not those damn yuppies that moved into the hood. The pizza was tasty I will go back again and again. It is a good place to go with a group of people because you can take over, that is always fun.
::::BATHROOM ALERT::::
Clean and did not smell. Normally mom and pop places have a dirty bathroom. This place didn't.
The decor is nice it shows the whole Manhattan skyline if us locals were able to still see it from our windows. If your in the area go in for that pizza. It is delicious. Papos got noting on this place. Seriously? Where have all the pizza places gone? This place is better then Bella Via btw, and cheaper. Check out the photos for a better idea of how the inside looks.
Very old school Italian restaurant with a full bar, with that real neighborhood feel to it. Juniors Café just brings you back to food basics. Their pizza was really delicious, very thin crust, sauce was tangy and cheese was perfect. Their calamari was nothing out of the ordinary and their meatball parmesan sub was decent.
The service was great, there was only one woman working there, and the restaurant was 1/2 full and she really did a great job taking care of everyone. There was a good mix of people there and it was obvious that they lived in the hood. The best part was, their prices were very reasonable. I am really all about the pizza and this is definitely on my go to list when I am is the area.
