I've been to a lot of Afghan places in NYC, but this place has become my new favorite as of today!
The food here was fantastic! I split the Combo 1 ($26) platter with my boyfriend and got the Sultani ($5 extra because it's 2 skewers) and Barg, both of which were so plentiful, juicy, and delicious! It was honestly a lot of food for 2 people. Unless you have a black hole for a stomach, this platter is ideal for 3 people. We also got the Sambosa (4.50), which were also really good. I also have to mention their complimentary yogurt sauce is awesome, and I appreciated that there was an unlimited serving of it, whereas other places I know of are quite stingy with their sauces.
I would have taken a star off because it's cash only, but I had such a positive experience here that I'm willing to let that slide.
My first time having Afghan good and it was amazing! My girlfriend and I ordered the combo #1 and hummus as an appetizer. You can chose among the many kabobs, we ordered one beef and one chicken over brown and white rice. First of all the meat was super juicy and flavorful, probably the best kabob I have ever had. The real kicker is the rice, it was extremely tender shockingly tender for brown rice. The white sauce was light and refreshing compared to your typical white sauce experiences. The hummus was similar to a store bought hummus but slightly more creamy. The portion sizes were large so a Combo for 2 was plenty along with a appetizer. It was a filling meal for a great price. The servers were extremely friendly and attentive.
The food was simple, flavorful and fast. I can't wait to come back for some more of that rice.
It's a rare sighting to haven an afgan restaurant in the middle of flushing but if you give this gem a try, you won't be disappointed!
—–About the service—–
5/5 on service. Extremely courteous. They gave us a free beef dumpling appetizer due to the wait time but it was well worth it. Both our waiters were great (omar, and the other guy (sorry I didn't get his name).) They're really chill guys and you'll most likely strike up a conversation.
—–About the food——
4/5 for food. Their. rice. Is. On. Point. I got the lamb and rice with onions and a tomato. The lamb was a little tough and jaw was getting tired from chewing but regardless, flavors were there. But like I said before, their rice is delicious. It was also mixed with cilantro so it's a pleasant surprise. Complimentary sauces on the side as well so you can lather your dish up with white sauce and spicy sauce.
Dessert: Must try the rose pistachio ice cream!! Highly recommended. You don't get the guilt of eating the icecream because it was light, yet creamy. It's really interesting experience and you just have to try it for yourself.
Overall, If you're tired of all the asian cuisine in the flushing area and want to spice up your food life, give this place a try. Positive experience.
Wow, this place has hit me with new GOOD expectations for cultural eateries in the area.
We had a gathering here for some new yorkers & out of town folks and have to say that the food had all of us filled up plenty.
This was my first time here and also my first time trying afghan food. I must say the menu did seem VERY pricy and even gave me second thoughts.
HOWEVER;
With a group of 8-9 people we split 2 orders of combos as well as 2 appetizers and the bill came out to about 12 dollars and change per person.
The Combo; Comes with options of 3 kabobs (meat choices) we basically had all the meats since we ordered 2 combos so we mix and matched them as we ate. Each piece of meat was tender and juicy and gave a satisfying feel.
We do have the option of white, brown, or green rice (choice of 2)
We got brown and green for both combos because come on, who wants regular white!
The rice itself was so delicious and really gave a different burst of flavor compared to traditional "at-home rice".
They have green sauce and white sauce complimentary on the table which they continue to fill.
They also have bread which serves as dips for the hummus and eggplant dip we ordered.
Everything was very delicious and I'd definitely recommend this place.
Only downside is that there isn't much spacing in this restaurant, but it did fit 8 of us without elbowing in the face, so it was a pleasant experience!
Awesome waiters and servers as well!
I've had this place bookmarked for a while now but I'm rarely around the area.. So it took me a while to come here.
My original plan was to visit the queens international food market happening in NY Hall of Science but that place was packed. Like it was SUPER packed. The lines didn't move etc it was claustrophobic packed. So I came here for dinner instead 🙂
We got here around 8:45pm on a Saturday night and luckily there was no wait. The other tables were all full but we scored a spot!
The servers were very attentive and nice.
My BF and I ordered the combo 1 which is your choice of 2 kebabs with choice of brown, white or green rice served with salad. We ordered the beef and chicken kebabs with brown rice and a bit of white rice.
It was a good amount for two people to leave your stomach content and full. I ended up taking some for lunch the next day :3
I can't say much about the beef because I mostly ate the chicken. But the chicken was delicious. It was juicy and flavorful.
The rice mmmmm who doesn't love rice? I put a dollop of the green sauce which is made with jalapeño and gave it a kick of taste but beware- it's a bit spicy.
The salad was just salad with the white sauce, nothing special.
We also ordered hummus. It was a big bowl of hummus we had to ask for a second plate of pita bread! We're used to restaurants serving just a "taste" of hummus but this place is generous and does not skimp out on hummus!
I would definitely come back again. The servers were all nice and the food is great!
Everything about this place is awesome from the food to the service. They deserve more than 5 stars!
This small afghan restaurant is a hidden gem in flushing. You would never expect to find this place there but it's probably serving the best food in flushing!
When you walk in the grill is right in the front so you can see the cooks grilling up fresh meats and vegetables.
Service: Omar is the man! We came in with a group of 5 people on a Thursday night and waited about 15 mins which we thought wasn't long at all. Once we were seated Omar the manager came to our table and personally apologized for the wait and gave us a free appetizer. What a good guy. Not only that but after we ordered he came by often to check up on how things were or if we needed anything extra. Our waiter (I wish I got his name) was also great. He explained every bring on the menu and gave some good suggestions.
Food: we ordered the grill beef, lamb, and chicken over brown rice. It was the best I ever had. The meats were juicy and not dry at all. The rice the have is so good and with their white sauce it's pretty much over… I would eat a bucket of that rice with the sauce. I would highly recommend getting their grilled meats! We also ordered the hummus which was fresh and unlike that store bought hummus you find in the supermarket. For dessert we ordered their rose water ice cream which was very unique. You really do taste roses when you eat it and it was surprisingly pleasant; very refreshing after the meal.
In summary Kabul kaba is a 5 star establishment the brings a huge splash of flavor to the monochromatic tastes that flushing has to offer. You come here for the fear food and stay because of the outstanding service.
Absolutely love the staff. My main waiter was Omar and he was attentive and super helpful and even offered samples of a drink called doogh before I commited to it. Thank goodness because I personally didn't like it, tasted like a watered down and carbonated white sauce. He was completely understanding though.
We ordered the Jojeh Kabob [chicken with bone] and Tikka Kabob [Lamb]. The rice was really fluffy and adding the crack white sauce and green spicy sauce makes it even better. I want to say that this is like the higher class version of 53rd and 6th.
For dessert we had the Bakhlava and homemade rosewater ice cream. The Bakhlava was very sweet in my opinion, maybe a little too sweet for me but it was very flaky. It paired really well with the ice cream since that by itself was not too sweet at all.
This place handles their customers really well and that stood out to me. The couple next to me was given an incorrect order and the servers realized it was their mistake and offered the dish to them at no cost.
I would definitely come back, the food is amazing and service was even better.
Outstanding. Had to wait about 30 minutes because the place is tiny but was packed to the walls. Had a table of nine but the people were pretty quick. Ordered a whole of bunch of dishes and this is what I thought:
Chicken kabob – very good but didn't blow me away. Wished it were a bit spicier.
Salmon kabob – absolutely outstanding. Very tender and almost melts in your mouth.
Chapli kabob – pretty good
What really was awesome was the brown rice. Just awesome. Service was friendly as well. Will definitely come back here again.
