I don't know a lot about Indian food, but I know a little. And I have some kind of idea of what Indian food is often like in New York. There's some good, and there's a whole bunch of mediocre. Seems like every neighborhood has something like "Bombay Palace" that serves a lot of North Indian food that's been geared to whatever the Hindi word for gringo is. Chicken Tikka Masala in a cream and ghee heavy sauce, super greasy samosas that have probably been fried and then refried to order.
Kanan is different. In no way do I even claim to know what authentic is, but in the past few years, I've started to cook Indian at home due to the fact that most of what can be found in restaurants (without paying $18 for a dish) is mediocre at best. But I read a lot of recipes and have watched YouTube videos made by people who really know Indian food. And I try to copy them.
Kanan is sort of like a good version of what I try to cook. Not as heavy, more focus on vegetables and spices, good rice. Inside is pretty boring. The staff is very nice, but it's not somewhere you'd want to hang out. But the food is good and that's what matters. I asked for my Chana Masala spicy, and it actually came with a bunch of spices in it. The Saag Paneer had an earthy flavor that I'm not sure I've ever tasted in Indian food before. Good stuff.
Indian had kind of taken a backseat in my rotation of delivery places, but it's back now.
Meh.
I'm torn between a two and a three because I want to give this place another shot, but if I were going off the last order I had from delivery, I would definitely give this place a 2.
My boyfriend ordered chicken tikka masala which was actually pretty good, but the portion was very small.
I ordered tandoori fish and it was a very small portion and kind of dry.
Based on my experience with the delivery I ordered, I'm not inclined to eat here again, however the other reviews seemed to be better, so I want to give this place another shot. I'll update when I order from here again.

Kana epitomizes why this part of Third and Fourth Avenue (and its immediate surroundings are underperforming) relative to the amount of choice and investment in the area. There are a number of new condos and development, spurred by the proximity to the F, G and R trains. Restaurants are continuing to move in, but on average the hit-to-miss ratio is one of the lowest in the City.
Indian is a problem in New York outside of a couple of areas targeted at the diaspora (Flushing, Jackson Heights and some parts of Curry Hill), which under-spiced and overpriced dishes being the norm. Kanan's not a terrible deal, but is there any reason why Park Slope has to be subjected to underwhelming curry, flat bread and straight-from-Sysco salad ingredients?
I suspect this is primarily an takeout and delivery option, for the dining room was nearly completed deserted when we visited on a Sunday evening. That meant we received plenty of hovering – and had to do plenty of lying – and the quality of fare.
If the neighborhood can't produce a decent Indian restaurant, maybe it's better to do without.
I think meh I've had better is accurate, but I'll give them the extra star for arriving hot and quickly. It's fine. It's basic. It wasn't overly oily as some takeout Indian can be. There was nothing special about it. They weren't particularly generous with the proteins in any of the dishes and what they did include was kind of dry. The paneer had an off texture.
We won't order again but you could do worse. A bit of a disappointment.
Good when you are craving Indian food. The portions are huge for the dinner special. The rice was a little hard and the chicken was kind of dry, but the naan and curries compensate.
I don't eat Indian food that often, but I'm going to say this was the best I've had! I ordered takeout of vegetable samosas, lamb appetizer and curry lamb. All were so delicious! Lamb was cooked perfectly and came out flavorful and tender. They were ready quickly and were friendly.
My fiance and I ordered delivery from here on Seamless the other night and we were plesently surprised. We had no idea there was a solid Indian restaurant in our area. We ordered a couple different chicken dishes (curry and tikka masala), a couple different samosas, and a couple different naans. Prices were very reasonable (meals were about $12 each) and delivery time was good. The flavors were great and the chicken wasn't all dried out as it often the case with mediocre Indian restaurants. The only two complaints we had is that the top of the container with my chicken curry was punctured somehow and it made a bit of mess in the bag and neither of our dishes had much spice to them despite mine being ordered as medium and hers as hot and spicy. We'll definitely be ordering from them again.
Finally, good Indian food near me! I ordered to-go and they were super fast and when I was home 20 min later the food was still warm. The carry out special provided me more than enough food (yay leftovers) and it was authentic and flavorful (finally I am satisfied).
