This is my go to Indian place in our hood. But not just because it's down the street! I took my Indian friend here and she gave it the thumbs up. Everything from the tikka to the paneer is solid and of course the naan is great. It's never too crowded. Service can be slow sometimes but nothing detrimental.
Conveniently located at Christopher St. we dropped by after work and was the first customers coming in for dinner that night.
We ordered Murgh Tikka Masala, Shahi Paneer and Garlic Naan. The Tikka Masala was good for those who like dishes on the spicy side. Paneer was good just the paneer itself though and the Garlic Naan was pretty bland – there were too many huge chucks of onions in the naan which had also thrown me off.
Authentic? I'd say no .. Overall, food was decent, but I've had better.
Karahi is like typical New York Indian food at it's finest- it's consistent, satisfying, tasty, and cheap. Karahi tows the line and I have no complaints about that.
I used to order in from them constantly at work to the point I got kinda bored with them, but then one day I actually got off my fat ass and went there and was honestly wowed by how much better the food tastes there than in an aluminum tin. This isn't exactly a revelation- take out is never as good as being there- but with Karahi I'd really push for you to go in person. It improves the meal like ten fold.
Service is always quick, place is clean, and they have a great lunch special.
That's it. Simple, straight forward, good.
Karahi is a solid Indian restaurant and a great lunch spot. I've ordered from here 3 times now and it's been very good. For $10 you get a meat entre, rice, and naan or $8 for a veggie entrée. I typically get one of each and the food is plenty to split over 3 days, one lunch special is definitely more I could eat in a day and they give you a good amount of meat. I've had both the tikka masala and the butter chicken and both were very enjoyable. The sauce was creamy with a good flavor and a hint of spiciness. The dal makhani was a little disappointing, while it tasted good it wasn't as creamy as I'm accustomed to and enjoy. I switched to the dal yellow and it's very good, nice and spicy. Delivery is usually decently quick, it took an hour one time which I didn't even mind and the delivery guy was very apologetic. This is definitely a go to lunch spot for me though they don't seem to delivery cutlery so make sure you have some available.
Came in for a lunch special, and it was a great experience! Had the Chana masala, which comes with rice and naan. It was SO spicy, which I definitely wasn't expecting but didn't mind at all. Naan was a little dry but a good level of chewiness! Rice was perfect. Also had a Chai tea, which ended up being almost as expensive as the meal itself – terribly unbalanced there. That being said, I had so much food leftover to take home, so it was pretty satisfying for me! Will definitely come back for the lunch specials but will skip the overpriced tea. Enjoy!
It's a clean, passable Indian place. Not terribly authentic, but also not greasy. Nothing to write home about, but fine for down the street.
Yum!
Try the chicken spinach saag or the chicken tikka masala.
Naan is a must.
Go. Eat. Be happy.
Came upon this place since Pinto next door was too crowded for a table. Not necessarily picky about Indian food, so was glad that we were able to sit immediately.
Server was attentive at first but slowly deteriorated as the night progressed. Got the Chicken Curry Masala ($13) with a side of Paratha ($4) and a beer ($5). The chicken curry came out relatively quickly (with a communal dish of rice for the 4 of us). Chicken was good, more mild than I would have liked but sufficed. The bread somehow took much longer to come out (halfway done with meal, annoying but not worth an argument).
Waiter disappeared after our meal; we didn't receive our check until 25 minutes after we were done eating. This is even more absurd considering there's only a handful of tables in the establishment. Thankfully there was plenty of cash on hand so we didn't have to wait longer for a credit card machine.
Decent food, bad service, yet relatively cheap for location.
