We had to check this place out while on vacation, it being a famous spot for eats.
Their was a decent line, but that was to be expected and honestly the place has a really vibrant/happening vibe to it so the wait was just fine!
I had to get one of their specialties, the corned beef Reuben on rye (with swiss, sauerkraut, and 1000 island dressing) It was very tasty, nice and tender meat, buttery toasted bread and the sandwich was definitely big enough to fill me up.
It was a really nice experience, and worth stopping by if you're on vacation or happen to live in the area. Thumbs up!
I'm a long time fan of Katz's and I cave in to my weakness for a giant pastrami on rye with a knish and a Dr. Brown's cream soda about once a year.
It's gotten a bit crazy with the line out on the street and it's a bit chaotic inside so if you can get a seat at a server table, it's better.

For any negatives, there are way more positives.

I came all the way from Los Angeles just so I could compare our Langer's with New York's famous Katz. Langer's is still the winner in my book. I may sound biased but the thick cut of pastrami at Langer's loaded on the rye bread tastes far superior and much more flavorful.
I was disappointed that Katz doesn't toast the bread either. The pastrami is sliced way thinner and although it tasted pretty good, it still doesn't come close to Langer's.
I dare you New Yorkers to come to LA to taste our best deli!
Send a salami to your boy in the army. Katz's is an institution in NYC and many people will remember the When Harry met Sally scene filmed here. Beef brisket sandwich. Or corned beef if you prefer. Have a hot dog while you wait. The matzoh ball soup is good too and having pickles with your sandwich makes it complete.
reuben sandwich – pastrami sauerkraut and all that other glory they pile sky high in this sandwich.
i love the thick, marble slabs of meat that come falling off the sides. dip it in some brown mustard, oh yeah. and huge, crispy pickles.
i surprised myself, eating the whole sandwich in one sitting. for a 20 dollar sandwich, you'd think you can space it out, wrap up half for later, but no, its just too delicious and irresistible.
I ate it so fast I forgot to take a picture of it. Priorities right.
Possibly the best pastrami you will eat. Classic NY deli. I've never had a bad experience here. It's always been loud and busy so not the place for a date. However apparently it was in a classic scene from Harry Met Sally. I've never seen the movie but people take pictures of the booth. You can get wait service but most people elect to just order at the counter. One sandwich can easily be shared. The prices are high but you're paying for the hype and quality of the meats.
Can't visit the NYC without dropping by Katz! Okay, maybe you CAN skip it. We didn't!
The place feels very authentic! It's feels like NYC inside! I ordered the pastrami sandwich, of course. Loved it! My wife ordered some sausage thing. Loved it! Pickles. Loved it!
The ticketing system was very confusing for us westerners. LOL. One of the servers was happy to explain the process to us. Cool! Strange to us, but cool.
The ambience, the food, the price (ouch!). I'm not a huge fan of pastrami sandwiches or sandwiches in general, but I really loved my Pastrami sandwich at Katz. It blows away the Togo's Pastrami, but is comparable to the Refuge out here in the Bay Area. Meat was tender. Bread was fresh. I'd definite drop by again the next time I'm in the NYC.
Walk in grab a ticket from the ticket guy and wait in one of the 7 lines of guys preparing food for people. Took about 20-30 minutes at 4pm on Saturday to get our food. Give the sandwich guy your ticket and he will write the price on your ticket. Then head to the soda/beer/sides line and pick your side and give the guy your ticket so he can add his charges. Then you have to hunt for a table and be prepared to share a table with others because there's no way you'll have your own table unless you're a party of 4 and are willing to wait for your own private table so you can be waited on, which is stupid because why pay a tip for someone to bring it to your table? Youll get a much better sandwich if the hard-working sandwich professional knows you're tipping them directly.
Once you're done eating, take your ticket to the checkout line and pay CASH ONLY for your meal.
Corned beef Ruben is fantastic! It's about $20 and can easily feed 2. It's freaking HUGE. But ordering the sandwich alone, not a Ruben, you'll get more meat.
Chopped liver was odd, kind of sweet with large chunks of egg. Didnt like the sweet, but mustard helped. Not bad, just not use to it. Needed onion, but wasn't offered any and the place was too busy to bother trying to hunt down onion.
Pickles are GREAT! 2 different kinds free with a sandwich.
Beer is $9 a glass so be careful because your bill can easily come to $50-70 before you even blink.
