Kee’s Chocolates
“They have amazing champagne truffles, as well as more exotic ones like Green Tea, Tiramisu, Aztec Chocolate, Jasmine, etc. (depends on the day).”
“A 29 out of 30 for quality on Zagat's rating, this tiny place in Soho certainly has personality.”
“I like the yuzu (tart, slightly sweet), black sesame (truffle coated in sesame), jasmine, green tea, and earl grey.”

I love Kee's Chocolates… except I have never tried any of their chocolates yet… Anyway, this is still my go to spot whenever I want to buy some beautiful macaroons for any occasion. I found this place because 1. I live nearby and 2. I was looking up lists of places that sell amazing macaroons.
I've gotten these tasty little treats for a bunch of my friends and they all love them. They have 7 flavors and they are all very pretty colors! My favorite is the black sesame. Everyone here is very polite and helpful. My only qualm is that the space is so small! It is very cute place though! Must remember to try the chocolates next time!
I reaaaally wanted to try Kee's Chocolates because I wanted to try the best chocolate in NYC. I visited the SOHO location and midtown location but I didn't get to try their famed creme brulee truffle. Both times they were sold out before 2pm. They must be really good if they are flying off the shelves like that. FYI, they told me you can call in the morning and have them reserve the truffles for your to pick up later. It's my bad that I didn't follow through with that the second time.
Still, I tried some of their other truffles. The dark chocolate truffle is amazing, although I thought La Maison Du Chocolat's was better. I tried a few others at Kee's, but my favorite was the Black Sesame Truffle. Salted caramel and passion fruit was good too, but nothing I would come back for.
All in all, really good artisan chocolates, but I really regret I didn't get to try the creme brulee. I wish I can get it shipped!
So, I had heard this was the best chocolate on the planet. I was coming to New York from the other side of the country, and I figured if it was really the best chocolate on the planet, I had better bring some back. So I had no choice but to track the place down.
Was it excellent chocolate? Yes it was. Was it worth a couple dollars for each tiny piece? Maybe. Was it worth a couple dollars for each tiny piece *and* having to figure out how to get it back to our hotel on the other side of Manhattan on the subway in the heat of July? Probably not. Was it the best chocolate I'd ever had, as I'd heard it would be? Nope, it was darn good, but as far as I'm concerned, there's a little artisanal chocolate shop where I grew up – which was *not* a big city like Manhattan – that made chocolate just as good (and cheaper, though still by no means cheap). So, Kee's might well be the best chocolate in the city, but not on the planet.
Still, it *is* darn good chocolate. Just, not cheap.
My first exposure to these chocolates was on a "chocolate tour" of NYC years and years ago. They changed my view of what chocolate should be. Forever.
Im not a chocolate nut, but after these chocolates I have understood what a good chocolate can do for the soul. I "get it". All other chocolates I have are mentally stacked up against these truffles and most fall short. One or two have fallen close. None have surpassed. But that is what happens when you make your chocolates fresh everyday, and when you never leave them to sell tomorrow. Fresh works. My fav is the crème brulee, but sesame seed is terrific. And the lemon basil. And the chocolate. Any flavor I have tried I enjoyed. Ive never had a macaroon or chocolate bar there. I go for truffles only. And eat them the same day. You really only need one. One good chocolate is better than 10 not as good ones.
Kees was nowhere near where I lived or even worked in NYC. They required a special trip for me to visit. But I made that trip every time I needed a gift for someone that day. Always met with huge "thank yous". And eaten that day.
There are now locations in midtown, which does make it easier. But this little store is worth a visit. I was there recently and reminded that it's better to go earlier in the day. Once "there're gone, there're gone".
Walk or subway here. Parking is tough but you may get lucky.
Great friendly service and delicious unique chocolates for $2.70 each.
Each chocolate is truffle style with a hard milk chocolate shell and some sort of fillling inside. It looked like they had about 15-20 varieties on display ready to go.
Black Sesame Chocolate – interesting flavor. Almost tasted like a sesame bagel with nutella on top. I liked it a lot
Key Lime – exactly like you'd expect the pie to taste. Nice sweet and sourish flavor.
Passion Fruit – if you like passion fruit this chocolate is awesome. It tastes exactly like the real stuff – a bit like a citrus/lemon mix.
Mango Green Tea – if you've ever had a mango lassi and an Indian restaurant it tastes pretty identical – a bit like a mango smoothie. Pretty good.
Creme Brule – their signature chocolate. Pretty good. They say it must be eaten within 24 hours or it goes bad.
Somewhat disappointed.
I arrived at 2pm hoping to pick up an assortment of kee's chocolates. I was hoping to try some of their truffle offerings, especially the sesame truffle and pignoli truffle. When I walked in I was surprised to see SIX pieces of chocolate in the display case. I figured they had more in the back but was told that was IT! Yikes!!
What a disappointment. I was able to try the pistachio truffle and the balsamic chocolate. Both were fantastic!
They did hAve plenty of chocolate bars available. The almond (dark chocolate) was very good.
I really would love to try their chocolate offerings since what I sampled was so good but I guess I'll have to get there very early.
5 stars for the macaroons!!!
Tried the raspberry, green tea and coconut macaroons and they were all amazing!
Ps they take credit cards, with a $5 minimum.
This is a place where I get chocolate when I want to make an impression or express my gratitude. The chocolates are definitely expensive but you pay for what you get. Though the chocolate itself is of high quality, the flavors don't manifest as strongly as I want them to. The Thai chilli for example, has a light kick to it when you get to the center of the chocolate and it lasts briefly. It's a good place to know but I don't go there to buy myself chocolate when I have a craving.
