Ehhhhh….I only run in and out of here for bread or milk. The young teens on register are always in a "I hate the world" mood and it's not necessary. Little selection and the deli NEVER cuts my cold cuts THIN when I ask!! Is it that hard?!? I've brought them back a few times and made them redo it because what the heck am I gonna do with three slices of ham?? That's a quarter pound?! Slice my ham thin or I might slice your face next time.
If you're Italian, you'd understand my gripe too lol.
A very depressing Key Food (as most of them are) but it was my beacon of light in my post-partum era when any and EVERY trip out of the house was a freedom like none other.
I waited patiently at the deli counter while the inarticulate Italin guy with tattoos scooped out the potato salad. I got a 1/2 lb of turkey breast.
I pushed and shuffled along the aisle with my grubby cart, filling it with whatever. No list. No Coupons. No regrets.
I never want to re-live those days, but somehow, Key Food helped me through it. One depressing aisle at a time.
For the past few months the Key Food on Gerritsen & U has been carrying Silk soy creamer–a new reason to shop there. Hopefully it will follow in the footsteps of the Mill Basin store and add nondairy cheeses and even more vegan-friendly products. Unfortunately, there doesn't seem much hope for improving the produce department. It's gone downhill IMO because some supposedly fresh stuff is now prepackaged. What's with the shrink-wrapped cabbage… is there something to hide? Or three mismatched zucchinis encased in styrofoam and cellophane… what's underneath? Why bother finding out where there are many better fruit & veggie stores nearby?
