  1. This Key Food has slightly more choices than the typical Met, but of course Stop & Shop is the ultimate leader in supermarkets for cleaniness, spacious aisles, more brand names, priced competitive, user friendly customer service, ample lighting, proper signage, and well staffed for efficient check-out.

This Key Food resides on Queens' renowned "Boulevard of Death" or "Boulevard of Broken Limbs" aka Queens Boulevard.  In a past life of adult times when residing in Forest Hills, I was mostly able to purchase my grocery needs for lunch or dinner.

  2. I come here out of convenience. They can't compete with Whole Foods, Trader Joe's, or ANY Asian supermarket.

They have circulars by the door. Shopping carts are just somewhere that you just have to track down. Their produce section is somewhat tattered and you really would have to be selective. Their meat section is fine. Prices are okay especially during sales.

    Their best sale? Water.

  3. Worst store.  Worst staff.

The checkout aisles are too small for strollers, carts, wheelchairs.  The food is commonly rotten and moldy.   The neighborhood deserves a better run place.

This store survives on the elderly who obviously don't know what fresh food tastes like anymore.

  4. Not Happy with this location. I got looks because I was using my EBT card. Please check your receipt before leaving. I was charged full price for something that was on sale. Some items were expired especially in the meat section. Go else where.

  5. There are three Key Food locations on Queens Boulevard in Forest Hills; this is the central one closest to the Forest Hills/71st-Continental Ave E/F/M/R station, on the northern side of the boulevard.  Located in an old building that once housed the Carlton Terrace, a famed nightspot, and its storefront still retains Art Deco details from that era.

That it was once a nightclub is not evident inside, but the space is somewhat crowded and awkwardly arranged, and most of the aisles will not fit two way shopping cart traffic.  Best to shop with basket only, if possible.  Perhaps it's because the aisles are narrower than the usual Key Food store, but shelves also seem to be higher, making many items impossible to get without assistance (multiplied for the vertically challenged, like myself).  Likewise, lighting can seem a bit more dim than other locations because of the high shelving and narrow aisles.

The selection is reflective of the neighborhood, and similar to the nearby Key Food stores.  Besides the most common brands typically found in supermarkets everywhere, there are more higher quality (and more expensive) choices for many items.  Organic produce is available, but overall fresh vegetables and fruits selection is limited.  They have all the usual deli section, fresh breads, frozen foods, meats and dairy, household items, and groceries.  Beer selection is not as extensive as the Key Food on Yellowstone, but they have a refrigerator with enough space for over 100 bottles of beer, sold individually (although currently, there's a lot of duplication and not as much variety as they could have).

This Key Food's selection and pricing is what one could expect in this neighborhood.  Gets the job done.  But the shopping experience is notably less comfortable because of the smaller space.

  6. I just moved to town and after visiting this grocery store I was worried that I would never again be able to find fresh, delicious produce or meat ever again.

Produce:  Prices were so-so, there was a lot of bad produce sitting out.  I had a hard time finding too much that we could buy that wasn't bruised or had flies on it.

Meat:  The coolers that the meat was sitting in had flickering lights and made me feel like I had just crossed into a horror movie.  The meat itself was gray…yes, gray.  There was a fish on a piece of styrofoam that had gross black water in the package with it…. we did not buy any meat here because it was so bad.

Freezer section:  Well surely they have to get the freezer section right, right??  Things were really unorganized, but I was able to find some familiar breakfast waffles and pierogi.  Too bad that the boxes looked as though they had thawed and had been frozen again (they were bloated and mishapen).

Dry Food:  Decent selection.  We bought a few things here.

Service/cashiers:  Our cashier was actually pretty nice.  She helped us to get a key food card and was generally pretty friendly.  She's probably the only reason I didn't give this place a 1.

In short – for dry food and the occasional emergency purchase this is an OK place to stop but I will go elsewhere for the majority of my grocery needs.
