What I had, a plate of fries and a vegan milkshake was delicious- but the price was $14. I thought I needed to avoid dairy and I wanted to have a treat here and I enjoyed it, the thing is, unless you are expecting to shell out big money, this place may not be for you.
I'm not a vegan but my sister is and she's been dying to introduce me to her vegan world…
After a couple of frowns on my part I gave it a shot …
I was not interested in anything on the menu … just weirds me out that is a vegan restaurant but the names of the entrees are definitely, how shall I say it "meaty"… and there's no meat incorporated in the food…
What's that about vegan people???
Anyway being that being said: this is my sister's favorite restaurant she informed me that everything on the menu is not served on a daily basis which puzzled me… The reason being because the chef wants only but fresh ingredients for the food prepared, and if it's not season for a certain vegetable then u have to settle for something else.. so u have to call ahead and make sure what u are craving for is actually available on that day…
I usually take pictures but didn't because like I said I was not interested in trying the food and I'm actually disappointed I didn't but no worries this won't be my last time visiting Killer Vegan because I actually enjoyed the food… I know …. who would of thought??
My sister ordered us a burger and disco fries…
And let me tell y'all
The burger I'm not going to lie and say it tasted like a meat burger.. but it was deliciously seasoned I honestly forgot I was eating a veggie burger…
She also ordered disco fries and I was mad I didn't order for myself it actually tasted exactly like the unhealthy version of disco fries…
I'm actually looking forward to my next visit to Killer vegan and have more of an opened mind now that I'm aware that is actually pretty good….
By the way is CASH ONLY…. get your healthy on PEOPLE.
I look forward to the weekend specials. Majority of time – I find something new I want to try!
This week was the Italian stuffed peppers – they were so yummy. Tried the sides- sautéed zucchini and the crispy garlic bread. Yes I was pleased this week! 🙂
I've been meaning to come here for a while now, for a couple of reasons. I've watched them since they were in the process of renovating/opening, and I love to support local business.
The place is open and spacious with a sitting area in the front and about 8-10 tables, I don't know what this space was before, perhaps a department store because the front windows are display windows. As you walk in there is a large counter with stools, baked goods, and a fridge display where the semi pre made smoothies are, they also have wheatgrass.
The owner gave me a menu and said to ask if I had any questions about it. The menu is small with primarily sandwiches a couple of basic salads and sides, a good selection of smoothies and shakes.
I didn't know what to get so she recommended the sausage and peppers sandwich, it came with a side of chips but for $2.50 more you can get one of the hot sides. It was good, vegan good, the meatless (seitan and bean)sausage had a really good consistency flavored with anise and caraway seeds along with red pepper flakes. The bread was fresh and soft, the peppers and onions were excellent. Again you can only compare vegan to vegan, I don't usually eat vegan, but I don't mind it.
I had a tropical smoothie – pineapple, papaya and mango made with soy milk, that was amazing – no sugar added, I could have one of those every day!
Also you can have a salad with one of the "meats" instead of a sandwich, just ask.
What I really like about KV is the owner, Janelle she lives right here in Union and she's so passionate about her food, and takes great pride in her establishment. I was actually short one dollar (they only take cash) I told her I would go to my car and get it, but she said don't worry about it, bring it next time! The prices are a little higher than non vegan places, but I find that to be the case with all vegan restaurants. I'm glad I came in today, I will definitely be back!
Limited options for vegetarian/vegan in the suburbs so i was excited when i stumbled upon this on yelp. Tried the sausage and peppers today and was extremely impressed. Definitely much better than any of the store bought mock meats i have bought in the store. I am excited to go back and try some of the other options.
My only hope would be for them to expand the menu for more choices
FYI – CASH ONLY
This was my first time eating in a vegan eatery!!! I was super excited just entering the premise yay!
Don't expect fancy smashy! lol Its really a chill place to dine. I would bring a date here but only if he was a vegan lol. So the server comes to you with the menus. He told us to look at the menu and then go up to the counter so he can take your order ( I told you its not fancy lol). I wanted one smoothie but they ran out of the ingredients. So I can the peachy keen (peach banana and ginger). I didn't like it but I drank it anyways. My friend got the Tropical Sunset papaya mango and pineapple. I was jelly!!! I liked her smoothie better :-(. Oh well! Next time!. I got the great vegan killer Panini and homegirl got the Pizza Burger. I loved my plate but it was a lot of food with chips. My homegirl loved their plate even though she is not a vegan. We also got a side order of sweet potatoes fries. They were delish!!! I would definitely come back to try other things.
1. They have a section. Where you can get your own condiments (organic ketchup, organic mustard, hot sauce). They also have forks, knives and cups. You have to get up and get it yourself.
2. They were playing 90's R & B music in the background which was super cool.
3. CASH ONLY!
4. Parking was difficult to find. Be prepare to take some time looking for parking.
5. The staff were chill like the establishment. Very sweet!
6. Enjoy!
This may be a little skewed because fully vegan spots are hard to come by in New Jersey. But this place is pretty awesome!
I came in here on a Saturday afternoon, it was pretty quiet. You order at the counter then they have all the water and utensils on a tray to the side along with all vegan friendly condiments including hot sauces and special vegan soy sauce! Wow!
The employee who took our order was very knowledgeable and super friendly. He was awesome. My boyfriend right off the bat told him how much he hates the taste of tofu and the employee told him to not worry or fret.
I got the mac and cheese for all which is even gluten free (which at first made me nervous and because it came out bright yellow). But it tasted AWESOME. Even my boyfriend loved it.
The kale slaw was awesome and had a perfect little spicy kick to it.
The boyfriend got the Killer, which is their largest burger. And it was delicious!!! The cheese and special sauce on it was out of this world.
We also split a chocolate milkshake, which was so good. You won't even miss the other stuff.
This place is awesome and I cannot wait to go back to try some of their other offerings. As others have said, I hope this does well and they do expand their menu because if this was as good as it was, I bet they can make even more amazing food!!! Keep up the great work and thank you!
