3.5 stars. I didn't know this place existed until my friends brought me here for a nice casual dinner. Since it was the weekend, it was packed and there were lots of people getting food to go. The space is kinda small, but not terribly so that you're practically sitting on top of each other. We waited about 10-15 minutes for seats since the waiter suggested we wait for a table of our own so we didn't have to sit with others. Service was good and our food came out quickly! We browsed the menu while we waited and decided on a couple of things to share so we can have a little bit of everything. We ordered the ramyun dukbokki, omelet rice, kimchi kimbap and the beef + inari kimbap. I also ordered the jujube tea, but somehow ended up with ginger tea; it worked out for me since it was a tad chilly and the spicy ginger warmed me right up.
I recommend the ramyun dukbokki since it's flavorful and kinda a perfect combination. The omelet rice was good too. The kimbap here is pretty standard and pretty good. You won't find anything that will blow you away here, but instead you'll find simple Korean style street food that fills you up and satisfies your Korean food cravings. The food here is certainly budget friendly and it's not like they just threw it all together when they make your food just because of the prices you're paying. I would love to come back and try some of their other kimbap rolls and menu items. Overall, a pretty good option to have when you want a quick and satisfying Korean food fix!
This little gem has been around for as long as I can remember. Although I love this place and the food, I gave it one less star than a perfect five because the quality of the food doesn't always seem the freshest. The portions of every dish are super big and guaranteed to fill you up & more and the prices are relatively cheap. This place is a great place to catch up with friends (although seating tends to get a bit cramped) and has less of a date ambience. The Donkatsu dishes are the most popular and they have a wide assortment of Donkatsu dishes you could order from. In addition, their hand rolls are pretty decent as well. Today, for the first time, in addition to getting a Donkatsu, I tried their "jjolmyun" and was pretty displeased. The noodles were pretty dry and just became unappetizing pretty quickly. In the future, I'll definitely just stick to ordering Donkatsu.
I came here for a casual lunch fix: the service was wonderful, but the food was mediocre.
I got seated immediately after walking in, even though most of the tables were occupied. Four chefs were hard at work behind the long counter that's visible regardless of where you sit inside this eatery. I ordered the omelette rice, which was topped with a gravy seasoning and came with a salad (iceberg lettuce with a thousand island-like dressing), and corn.
This dish wasn't anything exceptional or mind-blowing: in fact, besides the omelette (a thin layer of egg topped with gravy) which tasted delicious, the fried rice underneath tasted bland. I was surprised, because the fried rice looked like a kimchee (pickled radish) fried rice mixture since it was red-colored, with small chunks of spam, a combo that I would expect a lot of flavor from. But this dish didn't deliver that. A plus, though, is that you get unlimited miso soup: the servers always check to see if you're running low on it & fill up your soup bowl if you are, without being asked.
Decent spot for some quick eats. You won't peg this place as the best you've had but then again this is closer to fast food take out than restaurant–so when you Consider that this place is cool in my book.
There is a large selection of kimbap and different variations of a handful of dishes like tonkatsu or ddukbokki. We got weak for anything with cheese in it. Definitely worth checking out for quick takeout but if you got time or want legit food or if you're picky/snobbish– maybe send expectations elsewhere
This place is absolutely amazing from service to their food (even though this is my first time and I only got their kimbaps). I saw what other people ordered and it looks delicious. I will definitely know what to order next time (very soon). I've been working in flushing for more than half a year and I've just discovered this gem, shame on me!
I was seated immediately and served their soup and radish side dish and a cup of iced water. That's being fast and effective. The waiters were friendly and quick with everything. I ordered the spicy beef kimbap and spicy tuna kimbap. While waiting, a group of six came in and since I was sitting at a table alone with two empty tables next to me, I was asked if I can move to another separate table. The waiter asked me very politely which was nice. The kimbaps took a bit of time probably because it was during dinner time and lots of people were ordering. I finished my soup and side dish, getting all ready for my kimbaps, and the waiter took my soup bowl and radish bowl and came back with more! I didn't know they were going to give more (I could get full from just that). The kimbaps came and I loved the spicy tuna one. Right amount of spicy and the spicy didn't cover the tuna taste. Each kimbap order was cut into twelve pieces. BIG pieces. And more radish came with it (the yellow kind). The spicy beef one was not as good because it didn't have much taste to it, the beef wasn't spicy in my opinion and I can't take too much spicy but that was just spicy-less. I dipped each one into the radish side dish bowl which had spicy sauce in it.
Even though the spicy beef kimbap wasn't as good I wanted, it still didn't stop me from giving this place a five stars. I would definitely come back, for lunch and/or dinner. And everything is pretty cheap or at least decently priced. Tax was already included when the bill came, which is basically $0 because the total was the sum of my two kimbaps. Definitely a plus! They take card too! But only for the bill, tips you still have to pay in cash! Awesome service so I didn't hesitate to tip them well.
A great place for your Korean fix! Service was amazing; the waiters refilled my soup at least 3 times without me even asking for it. I ordered the bibimbap and it was a big portion for only $9 (lunch special). My only complain is that the rice was a bit on the hard side and I had to mix in a bit of soup to soften it up. I would definitely come back to try out the kimbap and ramyun!
The best Korean fast food in NYC.
Best kimbap no matter what you order. Freshest seaweed wrap, not overly salty, great ingredients to rice ratio, brushed with sesame oil (key), and wrapped nice and tight. I even pre-order 20 rolls or so if I have guests coming over (just place order few days before hand). It'll come in a nice large platter. I mean you can order day of, but probably get 20 rolls in 20 tiny Styrofoam boxes.
Great odeng soup. Lots of fish cakes, just wish there was a bit more scallion.
Even their free kimchi radish is decent. This is usually inedible in most restaurants imo.
My girlfriend swears by their rice cakes (I just don't touch rice cashes at all). Either the regular order or rice cake with ramen. Great to dip your kimbap into though.
Their entrees are also quite sizeable and all delicious. The pork and octopus over rice is a personal favorite. Would always get extra rice just to eat up the left over sauce. Entrees come with soup and salad btw.
I passed this restaurant all the time and never ventured in until yesterday. I was in the mood for some korean food and yelped of course. I came across Kimganae!!!
The place is definitely smaller than your average restaurants, but it was packed. I decided to place my order to go. I read the reviews and duly noted that their kimchi fried rice was the best. So that is what I ordered. In addition, I ordered a spicy beef roll. The food was made to order. Definitely a plus. The kimchi rice was made right then and there and I was able to view how the ladies prepared the rolls from scratch. Very nice. It came out to about $16. Not bad. And it came with the pickled vegetables which I like and a salad. The food was delicious. Just the right amount of heat. The downside was that they didn't serve bimibab with a protein. Neither chicken nor beef. So I didnt not order that. However, I shall definitely stop by and try something else.
