  1. Convenient? Yes.  My first choice? No.

Kings has a lot of high quality items and mixes in some average quality brands too.  However, everything is at least a $1 more than at Shoprite, Pathmark, or something similar.  That being said, you want organic?  Kings has organic up the wazoo.

Don't always expect the luxury of choice though.  For many items there is one choice only and you better like it.  To make matters worse the line for the cashier can circle around the whole place sometimes.

On the bright side, the customer service at Kings is top notch.  Anytime I've asked a question they quickly pointed me in the right direction.  I have yet to encounter a supermarket that does it better.

  2. King's is the ultimate layout brainteaser.  Just when you think you should be walking out – BOOM, wall!

Oh, a door to go in!  NO!  Not a door!

A prime view of the Trix puzzle on the back of the cereal box from the outside looking in?  You bet!

Yeah, so the checkout lines actually face a wall, so you have to back out of the register area to leave.  I imagine this must be slightly difficult to manage with more than a handful of groceries, I'm usually only carrying a few things so it's no big deal.  Because of this, the checkout line forms right in front of the salad bar – which is very inconvenient for anyone looking to create a salad-based edible masterpiece.

As others have mentioned, it is a bit on the pricy side, but for many that live close by, convenience trumps price.  I wouldn't suggest doing a week's worth of shopping here, but King's is good for:

-picking up a few things for tonight's dinner / things forgotten at A&P
    -grabbing a beverage
-taking advantage of the hot / prepared foods for a quick meal
-getting some bread from the mini-bakery

Go here.  Buy a few things.  Wear your ear buds in and SKRILLEX dance your way out of the registers and out of the store.

  3. Ah Kings. The store you absolutely need when you don't want to walk to A&P or Shop Rite.

I wouldn't come here to do all my grocery shopping at all. Everything is pretty much overpriced. The layout is atrocious and really bad for uptown. Why uptown, because of the sheer volume of double wide strollers that will destroy your toes trying to navigate the weirdly laid out aisles. Not to mention walking in and out of the store is like going through a maze.

Now, that being said, if you need something quick and easy, or you want some quality meats this is a good option. They do have some decently priced pre-marinated/seasoned stuff as well as other ready to go things like that. The deli counter, is a bit over priced of course but they have some good side options. I mean 9.99 for some mac n' cheese…nah I'm good.

It's clean, the people are nice and it's a good last resort when you forgot something at a further, most cost effective store. Definitely not for every day shopping, unless you like burning money.

  4. Great little market in uptown. Really good if you're looking for foodie type selection.

  5. This Kings Supermarket was remodeled last year to make it much easier to navigate than it was previously, but space can still be tight.  The produce is phenomenal!  Imagine organic apples in several varieties, prickly pears, starfruit, etc.  Outside of produce, though, the selection can be a bit limited.  Also, the prices are rather steep, but I guess you need to pay for quality…

  6. Despite King's small size, they have a decent selection of items, including lots of organic choices (carrot chips, yay!) As other reviewers have said, it's not the cheapest and the layout doesn't flow very well (you have to back out of the register area after you pay, initiating an awkward shuffle through the other customers still in line).

But – it's convenient, and I've never had a problem with anything I purchased here. Yesterday was a first – the lettuce I bought appeared fresh on the outside, but was brown and soggy on the inside. I threw it out and it isn't worth making another trip to get my $2 back, but just something to note.

  7. It's Kings so, of course, it costs a million dollars but I guess if you live in this area you can afford it anyway Like others have said, weird layout of the store and it's quite small. Still, they have a decent selection of vegan and organic items.
I would just take a cab or walk to ShopRite, quite honestly.

  8. I like what they are going for but:

    This place is small.

    Lay out is weird.

Prices are ridiculous: You can't do your regular grocery shopping here or you'll go broke…this is like a glorified convenience store or a Whole Foods with name brand foods.

I have never but: Their prepared foods looked and smelled great….someday….
