Second time here if you count our take out experience, however first time to review. The service, food and presentation was perfect. We called in for reservations and our table was ready when we walked in. A roomy booth to fit 5 and we were immediately warmly greeted by our server. The place was buzzing with many regulars as I like to always chat with other patrons. Two people at our table has a gluten allergy and our server assured us all precautions would be taken and she brought out gluten free soy sauce. The restaurant has been totally redone in a warm an inviting atmosphere. They surely offer so much and the variety will appeal to everyone. You can sit at the sushi bar, a table or the hibachi. We had a table of very sushi picky people and all agreed the sushi was amazingly fresh, delicious and we would all return. Not only was the sushi amazing but the hibachi steak was perfectly made. We relaxed, hung out and our server kept checking in to see if we needed anything. The staff is so nice!!
This place deserves 41/2 stars on both visits! Gave 5 because I never understand how someone can give a bad rating to a restaurant on take out alone……booo to that person!
Ok everyone this is a find in our area and suggest you to try this place. My only regret is it took me way too long to stop in for my original visit. Saw another YELP ELITE review (Scott B.) and trusted it, so glad I did.
A note to the owner …..keep up the good work and your place will be around for a long time. 5 people and we ate very well for $25.00 a person. Remember this is BYOB! One more thing…..it isn't fair to rate a restaurant on take out alone!
wow. that really sucked.
my husband got takeout as I recently had surgery and am in no shape to go out.
the rolls looked decent in the container, but upon trying to portion some out, they fell apart. they used copious amounts of green onion which typically disguises a bland meal in any type of cuisine.
I don't even know the names of rolls as they ensured we would never order again by not even giving us a menu. the spicy tuna had a rough aftertaste and the shrimp tempura was so greasy it was disgusting.
absolutely disappointed. the gyoza was ice cold and I am absolutely dumbfounded at the wonderful reviews on here. stick with Fuji or matata. good Japanese food is a dime a dozen around here and this place isn't worth another dime.
I had some reservations about Koi before I finally dined there. The place it replaced, Aligado, was my favorite sushi place for close to a decade & its where I grew to enjoy and appreciate sushi. Thanks George! When he sold, I was sad to see him go, but was excited for the future, as the new owner Jackie seemed very enthusiastic.
Flash forward to last night, and my how things change. Pulling up, the building looks similar, just cleaned up and new signage, awnings & paint. Once you open the door though, it's entirely different. Glass tile, bamboo, etc. The place looks beautiful. The hibachi room is off to the back and hidden, which is kinda good, as you wont have to smell like a hibachi if you just want to get sushi. The hibachi also isn't open yet… according to the owner, they were awaiting final approval from the town. Should be a ready in a few weeks.
The menu, was a nice balance of new and old. There's a lot of staples from the Aligado menu, along with a lot of new exciting entrees, apps and rolls. All the sushi we had was noticeably fresh & tasty. One of the things that really jumped out at us was the Treasure Island appetizer. Crunchy spicy tuna atop a seaweed, over thinly sliced avocado. It looked & tasted phenomenal. The seaweed salad was a perfect balance to the tuna & avocado!
The presentation on all of everything was superb. The sushi came out on a massive platter and laid out beautifully. I wish I would have taken a picture. And as we ate our sushi, we watched a table order mostly hot food from the kitchen. They all looked and smelled great. It almost made us order a noodle dish after our sushi.
My wife & I used to love coming here (when it was the old place) because the sushi was great, it was a nice relaxed atmosphere, ownership/staff were really nice, and the regulars became family to us. Koi has all of those characteristics & more. Last night, we ran into a table of 6 regulars who used to come all the time. After chatting with them, we were all in agreement – Koi is great and we cant wait to come back!
