I really enjoyed the food. They have a great lunch special for $9. I got a spicy chicken rice bowl and my friend got 6 wings. Both dishes were $9. The wings came with a side. We chose fries and they were delicious with the sauce they gave us. I tried their new green tea beer — skip it. The spicy chicken is not spicy.
Koko wings is literally across the street from my new apartment. Given my mostly unsatisfied cravings for fried chicken driven by my health-oriented diet, this is dangerous. A few weeks ago when watching WrestleMania and the Walking Dead finale back to back (there were 2 girls present for the record), some of us decided to get food. I suggested Koko; ordering by phone was pretty seamless, although you can actually use Seamless or another food ordering site if you want. After elapsing the 20 minute pickup window we were given by a good 25 minutes because the person delegated to pick up the food didn't know how to use the subway, we grabbed the food and came back.
Even though they'd been sitting around and were lukewarm–again, not the restaurant's fault–the chicken tenders retained their crispness very well. There were 1 or 2 pieces that were mostly just crispness with no meat, but overall I was impressed by the crispness and amount of meat for the money. The hot tenders were spicy without being overpoweringly so, and the similarly soy garlic had a kick while not overpowering the tenders. The french fries were sizable but they had to be for $6. Even so, they were thick cut, crisp, and I liked the spicy mayo they came with even though it wasn't spicy. Overall this turned out to be a quality dinner.
~$30 for dinner for 2 people while having enough for leftovers the next day isn't the deal of the year, but for food this thoroughly enjoyable it is pretty good. Reheated it was actually just as good as fresh somehow. I like that they offer strips too as I prefer them over wings. I will order again and will walk across the damned to pick it up my damned self next time (or eat there, God forbid).
I loveeee fried chicken, perhaps even more than the kind you eat with waffles. My only complaint is that you have to order the pickled radish separately when they really should come standard with the double fried chicken. The japchae is also delicious, but the seafood pancakes were just OK. They also have unique things here like green tea beer!
I'll definitely be coming back here soon for the chicken 🙂
Great spot on the Upper West Side.I came here with three other people and we shared and had plenty leftovers:
Large chicken combo
Seasoned french fries
Tteokbokki
Bulgogi dolsot bibimbap
Everything was really good and great service!
Ordered 8 wings half soy half spicy. The wings was crunchy and wings weren't too fat. They are better than bon chon and some of the larger chain korean wings!
Located in the middle of the Korean food area. They certainly have their distinct character to survive.
The interior was woodly decorated with a touch of Asian style. Totally I think can fit in 30people. Not a large place but each table has a generous space.
Signature dishes are fried chicken wings and drums. Never tried strips. The crispy flavor is my favorite. Spicy one is too strong for one to enjoy. Those are very oily. Usually accompanies with pickled radish.
I like tofu salad. The tofu are freshly fried and warm on top of those lettuce. Sauce is sweet and sour.
Servers are Koreans. They do have delivery
Chicken wings here are pretty good. Isn't it great when an establishment does a good job with their specialty? Mr. Joy loves Korean fried chicken … and fried chicken in general … and fried foods overall.
Chicken Wings – Soy Garlic & Spicy ($14.95 for 6 wings & 4 drums):
The chicken was crunchy with just enough batter and a decent amount of meat on the bones. The spicy flavor had a kick, but was not too spicy. I still preferred the soy garlic flavor.
The fried chicken comes with a side, so we chose…
Kimchi Coleslaw – I could take it or leave it. I don't like coleslaw. I was hoping there would be more kimchi leaves in there, but it didn't really resemble kimchi at all. It was mostly plain chopped cabbage with a little bit of spice.
Japchae with beef ($12.95):
The stir-fried clear noodles are so delicious to me. I didn't know they were made from sweet potatoes. Did you know that japchae is clear sweet potato noodles? They are sort of chewy and full of beef flavor. Since there are julienned carrots, mushrooms, and vegetables, it makes me feel like it's a complete meal.
Koko Wings has a solid, simple menu with the staple Korean dishes. The restaurant is pretty small with a couple of tables, and some stools along one wall, but it is pretty clean with mostly wooden decor and a brick wall.
It is definitely a great place to have a meal or just some fried chicken for a snack.
More than adequate Korean food with the added bonus of chicken fingers. We tried the soy garlic chicken strips, prepared well. We also tried the gobak a spicy minced chicken platter with gochujang, a Korean pepper sauce. The dish although appropriate, but would have preferred it to not have Mozz cheese.
The service was cordial, their heat didn't work, and in reality this is a take out place.
