  1. I know Kono Chicken is known for their fried chicken, but I could not avoid the beautiful sliced Jokbal sitting next to the cash register calling my name. One tray is a little more than $14, but definitely worth it. It comes with both Saeujeot, a salty fermented shrimp paste, and a red chili pepper paste for dipping. The sliced pieces with meat and fatty skin attached were tender, but the cartilage on the bone was a little chewy (still tasty, though). Literally every person that ordered after me bought at least one tray to share.

Aside from Jokbal, I ordered a small tray of soondae to go along with my soondubu from Wooram. If you're sharing with another person, their 'small' is certainly enough for both of you. I thought the casing was just right, but it can be a bit chewy for others. I went a little overboard with the salt mix; a little goes a long way. Overall, I'm really happy I found a place that sells both Jokbal and soondae sort of near me. It saves me a trip to Bergen County for sure. They also have Bossam, so I'll probably order that and their chicken the next time I'm here.

  2. I've been on a wing crave lately.  Korean wings that is.  So my girl decided to take me to H-Mart, which is a Korean supermarket which opened near our house.  The supermarket have a food court which serves different kinds of Korean foods.  One of the food joints there is called Kono Chicken which serves fried chicken (wings, drumsticks, or whole chickens).

The price is pretty reasonable.  I got 18 wings, 9 w soy garlic and the other 9 hot, with white rice on the side for  $19.50 with tax.  The guy behind the counter gave us the receipt with a number on it.  When your food is ready, theres a LED counter in the front with numbers.  When your number is put up there, it means your food is ready.  The guy behind the counter was soo nice and funny, we got along great and I think he threw in a side of fries just for fun coz we became friends.  My girl said "duh, maybe the fries come with it?  Then I thought about it and said "Probably".

Great wings.  Crispy, hot (temperature).   Very flavorful.  The coating was crispy and soy garlic was on point.  The hot flavor was just like BonChon, theres a sweetness there, as the addicting hot (spice) lingers in your mouth..it hurts soooo GOOD! 😉

We forgot to get a drink and I was too lazy to get up, so we just decided to get a drink in the supermarket (green tea cold drink) and took it home with us.  Overall, the place is clean and organized.  Happy Eating.

  3. Not knowing that Bon Chon was right around the corner (literally), we ordered from Kono Chicken. Not a bad thing necessarily in terms of the taste: this is solid Korean fried chicken. Can't comment on their non-KFC selections, but the wings and legs are decent with sufficiently crispy skin. I was pretty amused, though, when I opened the box and found a couple of legs that were GIANT compared to the small wings and drumsticks. It's as if they inadvertently harvested a couple of steroid chickens within the mix of their normal flock.

Half star deducted for cold reception for middle-aged woman who refused to make eye contact when I came to pick up my order and essentially ignored my existence for 30 seconds. Another half star deduction for making me wait another 20 minutes for my wings even though when I ordered I had told them I would be coming at a specific time to pick up the order. Apparently one hour is not enough for them to get their act together.

Slightly cheaper than Bon Chon but will probably opt for BC next time.

  4. It's surprisingly good but a tad pricey. I ordered the leg and wing combo. I also got sondae. The chicken comes with fries.

It's good. Not healthy, vegan, or organic. FYI.  Just need beer.

  5. Their garlic & soy sauce chicken is amazing. It comes with daikon to balance their spicy chicken but then they give you spicy French fries. Lol. Delicious!

They also serve ramen. Their slices if char Sui is very thin but they ate very good quality. Their shoyu broth is standard and their bowl came with a salad.

Self serve and they take credit cards.

  6. *Korean fried chicken in mild or spicy.
*the drumsticks and wings are not very large, but makes for a great greasy snack.
*comes with free fries, which usually cost $2.99 if ordering separately.
*not the best, but that doesn't stop me from always getting an order when at H-Mart.

  7. This is a chain and I've been to the other locations in Queens and it's better in Queens.

I ordered half the chicken with half spicy and half soy garlic. It came with a side of french fries and pickled radish. We came on a Sunday afternoon and they were not busy and the chicken I suspect it was left over from earlier morning or the night before. It was very greasy and old tasting and had the weird chicken taste.

The French fries were really good. Nice and crispy.

Overall I guess come when they are a bit busy and the chicken might be a bit fresher

  8. There aren't any BonChons or KyoChons in the area, so Kono Chicken is the place to be if you're ever craving Korean fried chicken. They have the two standard flavors (spicy and soy-garlic) and you can get either just wings or drumsticks – or a combination of both. Every order comes with a little cup of complimentary pickled radish (yay!) and a side of piping-hot fries.
