Love the avocado espresso drink.. Not sure what it's called. I think you must love avocados and coffee to like this but I may be a little obsessed with both!
Cool place in a easy location that has a nice quiet vibe.
I love this place for coffee – very fast, very friendly service, and the coffee is really good. I've gone at all different times in the day, and it's never too crowded. I've been using the cups app, which also works very well, and is way faster than other payment methods – so that is recommended too.
Enjoy!
Start your morning with Kopi Kopi.
Who's up for Indonesian coffee? Kopi means "coffee" in Bahasa Indonesia, go figure.
Get the Kopi Susu ($4.50; credit accepted), it's a calming coffee with condensed milk at the bottom. Stir in as much as you want to drink. If you stir it all in, diabeetus.
Shout out to barista Evelyn for taking me out of my comfort zone and introducing me to their coffee with coconut milk. It's sweeter than what I usually drink, but it's a welcome treat once in awhile.
If you visit later in the day, you can enjoy a bowl of ramen or get a drink here. Yes, they have a bar. (I haven't done either there – yet.)
Open early and plenty of Indonesian lunch options! Breakfast options are less culturally inspired, but nonetheless I was happy with my chai latte and breakfast croissant. Plenty of seating in the front and back and outlets all around.
The Es alpuket is quite steep though…$7 for a very small drink. I was eager to try it because people had raved about this Indonesian coffee + avocado smoothie combo. But way overpriced for the portion! You can easily make this at home with coffee, avocado and condensed milk. Overall a lowkey cafe/eatery and laptop friendly.
The space is big here with many tables available. Both coffee and meals are available. I got the avocado coffee thing, which is surprisingly good! The barista is also great to accommodate my requests such as skim milk, no cream, no sugar blahhh. Anyway, it's great and I'm sure the normal one with condensed milk is even better tasting.
I came here with about 15 of my classmates, and they had a whole long table reserved for us in the back!
I started off with the martabak telor (pan fried spring roll pastry) and soto ayam (a type of chicken soup). Both were great starters with lots of unique flavors to 'em. For my main entree, I got the nasi goreng (fried rice with chicken, sauteed shallots, sambal, etc). That was tasty as well!
As for drinks, they were all unique, from the hudson river to the basil surf (which had coconut milk in it). Yummm!
Kopi Kopi is one of the Cups app partners in the area, and I was in dire need of a mid-afternoon pick-me-up before a full evening of classes. After taking a look at the options on Yelp/Cups, I decided to stop in and try the es alkaput. I'm a fan of coffee and a fan of avocado, so I didn't think I could go wrong with that! BTW, with the cups app, I pretty much paid less than $3 for a $7 drink!
I'm a fan of their drink menu, as they have quite a few unique offers – including a ginger brew, the kopi susu, es serut, etc. – along with the regular espresso drinks. My es alkaput was beautifully presented, and I was surprised at how well the avocado went with the espresso; I think the creaminess of the avocado, more than the flavor itself, was what I noticed. I also got a good jolt of energy from the espresso – which was surprising since I don't usually feel anything from coffee..
A few FYIs if you are looking for a place to study: many of the tables and chairs are super wobbly and unstable, and the internet is a little tricky to get into…there's at least one page that you have to X out of in order to continue, and you have to make sure you get all the way to the point that you can hit 'done' before you can connect to the internet. Most patrons seem to come here to socialize, so there can be quite a bit of chatter.
I think I've found my new hangout spot around campus though. Can't wait to bring friends here!
For a while, this understated Indonesian cafe/secret ramen restaurant* was my go-to for a midday mood enhancer.
The drink people talk about here is the Es Alpukat, a layered avocado/espresso concoction. I tried another of their specialty drinks – the Hot Bandrek involves ginger, cloves, cayenne, cinnamon, and sugar – and it was so cloyingly sweet I got a headache. I only ever get lattes here anymore.
Lattes are decent, and the price is right when using the Cups app (message me for a discount code!).
Beyond that, Kopi Kopi is charming as all heck, and exactly what you want when scoping out a coffeeshop to park yourself. Always plenty of seats, never a line. It's a quiet cavern of a place where you can meet a friend and chat quietly over caffeine, or otherwise bring your laptop and work, without feeling like you're infringing on something or being driven insane by espresso machine noise or other people vocal-fry-ing loudly about their brunch plans.
* There's a dining room in the back beyond the "cafe" part where they serve Indonesian food. It's also home to a supposedly "secret" ramen restaurant, but I sense that having a sandwich board outside announcing its existence disqualifies something from being "secret."
